Shenzhen's Seaside: Embark on a Coastal Camping Adventure
In the coastal city of Shenzhen, seaside camping is a fantastic way to connect with nature and unwind. Listen to the gentle waves lapping against the shore, gaze at the starlit night sky, and embrace the tranquility and romance. Here's your guide to seaside camping in Shenzhen, helping you embark on a wonderful coastal camping trip.
Preparation
1. Check the Weather: Before heading out, consult the weather forecast and choose a sunny, rain-free day. Summer often brings heavy rain and typhoons, so pay attention to warnings in advance to avoid danger.
2. Choose a Campsite: Shenzhen offers various seaside campsites, each with its own unique charm. Xichong Beach boasts soft sand and expansive views, perfect for watching the sunrise and sunset over the sea. During peak season, adult tickets are 40 CNY/person, and discounted tickets are 20 CNY/person. You can bring your own tent but need to pay a site fee. Shayu Chong is a small fishing village nestled in Dapeng Bay, surrounded by mountains on two sides and facing the sea on one, known as "Shenzhen's paradise." It's free and requires no reservation. You can also bring your own tent and pay a site fee. Rose Coast is a wedding photography base with an island vibe. Adult tickets are 37 CNY online, and children/senior tickets are 25 CNY. You can bring your own tent, but it can only be set up during operating hours and overnight stays are not allowed.
3. Gather Your Gear: Essentials include a tent, sleeping bag, and moisture-proof mat for a comfortable sleep. Bring a flashlight or headlamp for illumination. Folding chairs and tables are handy for relaxing. Pack tableware, cooking utensils, and food to enjoy outdoor cooking. Don't forget a power bank, sunglasses, sunscreen, mosquito repellent, etc. If you prefer not to bring your own equipment, some campsites offer rental services.
Transportation
1. Driving: Use a mobile navigation app to search for your destination and follow the directions. For some scenic spots on the Dapeng Peninsula, such as Xichong and Dongchong, reservations are required via the "Shenzhen Traffic Police" WeChat official account for weekends and public holidays between April 30 and October 7. Remember to check your vehicle's condition before departure and bring water and snacks.
2. Public Transportation: Some campsites have bus stops nearby. Check routes and stops in advance to plan your travel time effectively. For example, to reach Xichong, you can take a bus to stops like Xichong No. 2 Bathing Beach or Xichong No. 3 & 4 Bathing Beach. However, bus travel can be time-consuming and involve transfers.
Camping Process
1. Arrival: Arrive at the campsite as scheduled. If driving, find the parking lot in advance and park as directed.
2. Tent Setup: Choose a flat, well-drained, and wind-sheltered spot. Lay down the moisture-proof mat first, then set up the tent, securing the pegs and wind ropes. If you're unsure how to set up a tent, ask the staff for assistance or consult online tutorials.
3. Settle In: Organize your belongings inside the tent, arrange your gear and luggage, take a rest, and acclimate to the environment.
Activities
1. Beach Walks: Stroll along the beach, feel the soft sand beneath your feet, enjoy the sea breeze, watch the waves, collect shells and small crabs, and embrace the leisurely moments.
2. Water Activities: Many campsites offer water sports such as surfing, windsurfing, and diving, allowing you to experience the excitement and charm of the sea. Prioritize safety, follow the instructor's guidance, and wear a life jacket.
3. Sunrise and Sunset Viewing: The seaside is an ideal location for watching sunrises and sunsets. In the evening, witness the sky and sea painted with the hues of the setting sun. Wake up early in the morning to see the sun rise from the horizon, bringing hope for a new day.
4. Bonfires: Gather around a bonfire with friends in the evening, sing, dance, chat, share food, and strengthen bonds. Exercise caution with fire and ensure the flames are completely extinguished afterward.
Food Recommendations
1. Seafood Barbecue: A seaside trip wouldn't be complete without a seafood barbecue. Order grilled shrimp, squid, oysters, and other fresh ingredients cooked over charcoal, filling the air with enticing aromas.
2. Local Snacks: Sample local snacks like cheung fun (rice noodle rolls), stir-fried hor fun (wide rice noodles), and fish ball soup to experience Shenzhen's culinary culture.
3. DIY Meals: Use your own cooking utensils to prepare meals like fried eggs, instant noodles, or grilled sandwiches, and savor the joy of outdoor cooking.
Important Notes
1. Safety First: Avoid swimming or playing in dangerous areas and adhere to campsite rules. Carry lighting tools and travel in groups at night.
2. Environmental Protection: Respect the beach and marine environment, refrain from littering, and take all your belongings with you when leaving, practicing Leave No Trace camping.
3. Mosquito and Sun Protection: Mosquitoes are prevalent at the seaside, so apply mosquito repellent beforehand and wear long sleeves and pants. The sun is strong during the day, so take sun protection measures to avoid sunburn.
4. Stay Warm: The temperature difference between day and night can be significant at the seaside. Pack warm clothes for the evening, choose a sleeping bag with an appropriate warmth rating, and avoid catching a cold.
