Chaoyang Tower and Xiaogui Lake.
It is said that during the Ming Dynasty, a pond was formed outside the Chaoyang Tower in Jianshui Ancient City due to the excavation of soil for city construction. The pond gradually filled with water and became a lake. Because a general who supervised the city construction often washed his horse by the lake, people called it "Xima Pond". Also, because the Ming Dynasty scholar Yang Shen was demoted here, he saw the pond and thought of Gui Lake in his hometown, which made him feel emotional. Therefore, "Xima Pond" was also called "Xiaogui Lake".
Xiaogui Lake is not very large, but it has a moat, an island, and a pavilion. The lake water changes color with the weather. There are many merchants around, and it is very close to Chaoyang Tower, making it a good place for people to relax and have fun.

Jianshui Xiaogui Lake: Unveiling a Forgotten History✨
⭐In everyone's heart, there is a pure lake, and in Jianshui, Yunnan, that lake is called "Xiaogui Lake". Unlike other well-known lakes, Xiaogui Lake may not be famous, but it carries a profound history.
Jianshui Xiaogui Lake - A long-lost pond of water!
Xiaogui Lake is located between Chaoyang Tower and Fudong Temple to the east of Jianshui County, bordering Taishi Alley to the north, covering an area of over 70,000 square meters.
Xiaogui Lake was originally called "Xima Pond", which according to legend, was formed when soil was taken from outside Chaoyang Tower to build the city walls, creating a depression that filled with water. A general who supervised the city construction used to wash his horse in the pond daily, hence the name "Xima Pond". Later, with the development of Jianshui Ancient City, after several renovations, Xima Pond was divided into the upper, middle, and lower ponds, with green trees and red flowers on the embankment, and weeping willows creating a pleasant scenery.
The small island in Xima Pond is the site of Yejia Mountain, built by Ye Rui, a Jianshui native who passed the imperial examinations during the Ming Dynasty's Jiajing era and built his residence there after retiring. In the sixth year of Ming Zhengde, Yang Shengan was exiled to Dian, and during his stay in Ami (now Kaiyuan), accompanied by his friend Wang Tingbiao, he visited Jianshui twice and stayed at Fudong Temple and Ye Rui's home by Xima Pond.
Because the embankment was draped with willows and the scenery was beautiful, reminiscent of his hometown's Xindu Gui Lake in Sichuan, he was moved to say: "This place has both beautiful mountains and water, quite similar to my old home in Xindu Gui Lake." Hence, it was named "Xiaogui Lake".
🌿Today's Xiaogui Lake is not only a beautiful body of water but also a witness to history. Here, you can feel the deep cultural heritage and experience the profound affection for the hometown.
🌸So, the next time you visit Jianshui, consider taking a walk around Xiaogui Lake, feel its unique charm, and let history gently touch your soul.
