WOOD Restaurant
📍Jack Rosenthal Street, Manchester, M15 4RA
This fine dining restaurant feels incredibly fancy, and walking in from the street gave me a bit of a nostalgic feeling, almost like being back on Nanjing West Road in Shanghai—just for a moment, I felt a bit homesick.
The open kitchen adds a Michelin-like vibe, with comfortable sofa seating on the first floor and private, quiet booths upstairs that offer a great sense of privacy. Overall, the atmosphere is very appealing.
We tried the à la carte menu, though the tasting menu also looked excellent. The staff were wonderful—very friendly and attentive!
Wild Mushroom Raviolo | Sage | Chestnut | Pangrattato
The presentation was very unique, with a strong mushroom aroma. The crunchy nuts sprinkled on top added a nice texture and were very tasty!
Cheshire Short Rib | Seven Brothers Stout | Truffle
This dish featured shredded beef short rib, paired with mashed potatoes. The combination with the mashed potatoes was perfectly balanced and absolutely delicious!

Rating: No need to go🙈🙈
Reasons:
Milk Bread & The Good Butter
- The butter in the restaurant is mixed with its own spices, unfortunately, it's hard to taste them
- Suspect the bread was left under the heat lamp for too long, the crust that was supposed to be crispy turned hard, and the bottom of the bread felt soggy
Gurnard
- A type of fish that we don't usually come across, quite novel, but it tastes bland and the texture is like ordinary white fish sashimi
- Served with tomato yuzu vinegar, yuzu sake, mirasol chili, and garnished with green onion and scallion oil
= Western-style sour fish...
🍷Wine pairing: Ikigal | Xariel-Lo | Spain
- The taste is easy on the palate, not very dry, sweet
- Has aromas of apple and citrus
The Tunworth Tater
- Half a potato skin filled with Tunworth cheese and potato foam, paired with lacto-fermented blueberry sauce, topped with malt powder
- The cheese foam on the surface has dried out, forming a tough film, and because the temperature is not high, the foam is very sticky
- Although the blueberry sauce can reduce the greasiness, the overall dish does not highlight the blueberries as something special
- The malt powder is extremely sticky, making the texture even worse
Duck Breast with Duck Leg Ragu & Furicake Crackers
- Dry smoked duck breast + raw cucumber + dry steamed bun + extremely salty duck ragu & magical onion bits + crispy rice crackers (+ £9.5 for fried potato mille-feuille)... True to its name
🍷Wine pairing: Louis Latour Valmoissue | Pinot Noir | France
- The taste is mainly of blackberries and a sense of undergrowth
- Has aromas of blackberries and blackcurrant
Rose, Rhubarb & Koji custard
- Sour rhubarb slices + sour soaked rose rhubarb + overly sweet caramel white chocolate foam + koji rice crumbles
- Overly sweet upon entry, then sour...
🍷Wine pairing: Lakeview Cellar Ice Wine | Canada
- The initial taste is of sweet cherry sweetness, followed by the acidity of strawberries and raspberries
Overall, the Chef Menu is not highly recommended😨
