Wolong Academy is the oldest academy in the eight counties of Tingzhou, Fujian Province. It is located on South Street in Changting County. A Hui-style ancient building donated by Jackie Chan to Changting is located here, named "Longxue Hall." Jackie Chan also composed and sang the song "The Story of the Bluestone" for Changting. On the night of my arrival in Changting, I stepped into Wolong Academy. The ancient buildings looked even more charming under the lights. The mottled walls and bluestone slabs polished by time carry memories of the past. The flowers and plants in the courtyard swayed gently in the breeze, and the stone slabs were imprinted with the hurried footsteps of students and the light and shadow of their pursuit of knowledge. In the library, rows of ancient books were neatly arranged, exuding the fragrance of ink. In the lecture hall, desks and chairs were neatly arranged, and famous calligraphy and paintings were hung on the walls, creating a strong cultural atmosphere. Wenchang Pavilion enshrines Wenchang Jun, who blesses students to achieve success in their studies and promotes local culture. Strolling among the pavilions and towers, I admired the beautiful scenery of the academy at night and felt the tranquility and elegance. Wolong Academy has weathered many storms, but these bluestone slabs have always existed silently. Like loyal historians, they quietly tell the story of the academy's changes and the context of cultural inheritance.

If the ancient city walls and Diantou Street show us the past prosperity and glory of Changting, then Wolong Academy interprets this thousand-year-old city in a different way. Wolong Academy is located near the ancient city of Changting, founded during the Baoyou period of the Southern Song Dynasty, named for the mountain terrain resembling a dragon lying on the ground. Upon entering the main gate, a wall called the 'reflecting wall' faces you, with the characters for 'advance in virtue' inscribed upon it. Walking west from the reflecting wall, there is a building called 'Long Xuetang'. This is an old residence donated by international movie star Jackie Chan, featuring the complete architectural style of the Hui school. Leaving 'Long Xuetang' and heading north along the western corridor, a building facing south, called 'Zangjing Lou', has a couplet outside that reads: 'Full of learning, do not let down the moon over the Ting River when you raise your head; with the weight of family and country on your shoulders, always stir the tides of the Han sea at heart'. Exiting from the east side door of 'Zangjing Lou', you walk down a long corridor shaded by green bamboo, and enter a place called 'Lecture Hall'. During the Southern Song Dynasty, Zhu Xi once lectured here, and the youth of Tingzhou flocked to him. It is said that the words 'Lecture Hall' were inscribed by Zhu Xi himself. Hundreds of years later, Wang Yangming visited this place, and the two great scholars of Neo-Confucianism and the School of Mind looked across time at each other, reflecting each other's brilliance. Qiu Zhen Guan is a special exhibition hall of the academy, representing the Confucian doctrine of Wang Yangming's School of Mind, combined with their connection to Wolong Academy in promoting and lecturing on the Dao. Wenchang Pavilion enshrines and venerates the Emperor Wenchang, an important place for scholars seeking fame and success in their studies. Changting, once known as Tingzhou, is renowned for its majestic city gates, the historical feel of its mottled city walls, and its winding streets. San Ting Jing·Hakka Tulou Homestay San Ting Jing Homestay is located on Xianqian Street. It is a mid-to-high-end homestay with the theme of Tulou. It is located at the central point of the main channel of 'Shop Street' and 'Wolong Academy'. It is transformed from three old wooden houses from the Ming and Qing Dynasties, named 'San Ting Jing' because there are three patio halls. The homestay retains the original ancient architectural style and incorporates the design of modern hotels. The guest rooms and reception halls are in completely independent buildings. Although they are unremarkable outside, the interior design is quite stylish. The reception hall on the street has a public self-service kitchen, self-service barbecue stove, self-service tea tasting area and local specialty sales area. The guest rooms are in the two buildings at the back, very quiet, the rooms are not big, but they are well laid out, with good lighting and bright and warm lights. The hygiene is in place, and the linen is also very good to use. It is rare to have a bathtub, which is a bonus in the cold winter! Public laundry room and drying room, it's too friendly for self-driving people. On the second floor of the guest room, there is an independent outdoor public activity space, which is very suitable for basking in the sun, reading, listening to songs, or chatting with a few friends. The shopkeeper has also planted a lot of succulents, which are thriving! It is said that if the weather is good, you can see the stars all over the sky at night. Because parking in the ancient city is inconvenient, you can only park at the nearby Tingzhou Hospital, which is also convenient for a five-minute walk. The shopkeeper is nice to pay for the parking fee. You can go to Wolong Academy, Changting County Shop Street, Jichuan Gate, Changting County Museum in ten minutes on foot, and it is very convenient for eating and touring. Riding a shared electric bike is also very convenient, without having to worry about parking. Breakfast randomly ate a dustpan at Zhuotian Restaurant, paired with a bowl of boiled pig kidney soup, unexpectedly delicious! 👍 Xia Wufu's snacks are the best afternoon tea! The soy milk egg tart is very tender, fragrant but not sweet; the freshly baked mung bean cake has a particularly crispy skin. Hakka dishes are similar, and there are many restaurants on Shop Street, all of which operate local dishes. We tasted salt wine chicken and pearl balls at Hakka Yipin. Salt wine chicken is different from Guangdong Hakka's chicken wine. It is boiled with white-cut chicken. Wine is just a seasoning, and it is put less, which is salty and not suitable for direct drinking. Pearl balls are potato starch balls, soft and chewy, can be used as a staple food, and the portion is very sufficient. Two days and one night's itinerary is not rushed, understand Changting's Hakka culture, accept the baptism of red history, taste Hakka food, isn't it fun! 😁😁😁
