"The city of Bang Fai Ko, sweet watermelon, Khwan pillows, and Khid fabrics, a source of jasmine rice."
According to the Yasothon Chronicles, around the year 2340, Phra Chao Worawongsa (Phra Wo), a former minister of Vientiane, and his followers traveled to live with the ruler of Champasak. When they arrived, Dong Phi Sing saw that it was a good location, so they established and built a city here called "Ban Sing Tha." Later, in 2357, King Phutthaloetla Naphalai graciously granted permission to upgrade Ban Sing Tha to "Yasothon City", making it a vassal state. Directly under Bangkok until 1900, it was incorporated into Ubon Ratchathani area until 1907, when Ubon Ratchathani area was merged to form Ubon Ratchathani Province. It was a district in Ubon Ratchathani Province until the order of the Revolutionary Council, with the governor holding the title of Phra Sunthonratchawongsa. In 1972, it was elevated to Yasothon Province. By Revolutionary Council Announcement No. 70 dated 6 February 1972, Yasothon District, Kham Khuen Kaeo District, Maha Chanachai District, Patiu District, Loeng Nok Tha District, and Kut Chum District were separated from Ubon Ratchathani Province and combined to form Yasothon Province since 1 March 1972 onwards.
