Monk Khun Wubi Temple was built in 1357. The temple enshrines a huge bronze statue of a sitting Buddha that was originally standing outdoors in the 15th century. It is a Thai Buddha statue. It was not until the reign of King Rama V in the 1950s that the temple was rebuilt, and in 1956, a donation from Myanmar was accepted to restore the main hall, and the Buddha statues could be enshrined indoors. During the restoration process of this Buddha statue, it was found that there were hundreds of small Buddhas in the body of the giant Buddha. The news came out that it was respected and admired by the visiting Buddhists in Ayutthaya. There is a large parking lot at the entrance of the temple, and there are rows of stalls selling souvenirs on the opposite side, including some local native products, postcards and indistinguishable antiques.

Phra Mongkhon Bophit Temple, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Province
Wihan Phra Mongkhon Bophit is the place where Phra Mongkhon Bophit, an ancient Buddha image, is believed to have been built since the early Ayutthaya period during the reign of King Borommatrailokanat, or about 500 years ago.
The Buddha image has been restored many times, both by moving its location, both originally as a pavilion and later converted into a temple, until it was severely damaged during the fall of Ayutthaya for the second time, becoming an open-air religious site that was quite dilapidated until it was well restored in 1956 to its current state.

Phra Mongkhon Bophit Temple
Phra Mongkhon Bophit Temple, Ayutthaya Province
🙏This is an old temple within the city walls that has been well restored. Inside the temple is Phra Mongkhon Bophit, a bronze Buddha statue in the Mara-Vijaya posture, 9.55 meters wide and 12.45 meters high. It is considered one of the largest Buddha statues in Thailand. It was damaged since the second fall of Ayutthaya, but has been restored with bronze and covered with gold today.
🙏There is no clear evidence of when it was built. During the reign of King Sua, a thunderbolt fell on the top of the Phra Mongkhon Bophit pavilion, causing a fire, damaging the upper part of Phra Mongkhon Bophit. Therefore, His Majesty ordered its renovation. Later, during the reign of King Borommakot, during the second fall of Ayutthaya, Phra Mongkhon Bophit Temple was burned by the enemy. The crown and right arm of Phra Mongkhon Bophit were broken. King Rama V ordered its renovation.

The only large bronze Buddha statue in the country
Phra Mongkhon Bophit is a large Buddha statue cast from bronze, the only one in Thailand. It is lacquered and gilded with a brick core and the outer surface is covered with bronze, made into sections welded together. It is 12.54 meters high and 4 wa wide. It is assumed to have been built during the reign of King Chairacha around 2081. It was originally enshrined outdoors. Later, during the reign of King Songtham, he ordered it to be moved to the southwest of Wat Phra Si Sanphet. #VisitAyutthaya #MakeMeritAndWorshipTheBuddha #WatMongkhonBophit
