Baishuitai of Shangri-La, the Chinese version of the Cotton Castle
The milky, calcium carbonate-rich mountain spring water slows down as it flows down the mountain slope. The intense sunlight at high altitudes causes a large amount of spring water to evaporate, and the calcium carbonate gradually deposits. Over time, it turns into a spectacle that looks like cotton or clouds, and like terraced fields. The accumulated water turns into pieces of sapphires under the sunlight, and such a landscape has been around for thousands of years.
Baishuitai is located in Baidi Village, Sanba Township, Shangri-La City, Diqing Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Yunnan Province. It is not only a natural landscape, but also the birthplace of the Dongba religion of the Naxi people. There are many temples and cultural relics of the Dongba religion around, such as the ancestral temple of the Dongba religion, Baishui Palace. These cultural relics and temples are not only important places for the Dongba religion of the Naxi people, but also important windows for understanding the culture and history of the Naxi people.
🗺️Transportation: Self-driving from Shangri-La City, along National Highway 214, you can reach Baishuitai in about 3 hours. The road to Lijiang passes through Baishuitai, Haba Snow Mountain, and Tiger Leaping Gorge, which is a very worthwhile route.
🎫Ticket: 30 yuan/person
⚠️Note: Pay attention to environmental and cultural relic protection, do not litter or trample on the landscape, and pay attention to sun protection and altitude sickness.

Shangri-La Baishuitai is located in Shangri-La City, Diqing Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Yunnan Province, and is one of the core tourist areas of Shangri-La. Baishuitai is a plateau lake with a wide and blue water area, surrounded by snow-capped mountains, and the scenery is beautiful. The vegetation here is lush, the air is fresh, and it is an excellent place for people to relax and vacation. Tourists can enjoy breathtaking natural landscapes such as primitive forests, alpine meadows, and strange rocks. Baishuitai also has a variety of tourist projects, such as boating, fishing, hiking, etc., to meet the needs of different tourists. In addition, the Tibetan culture of Shangri-La is deeply integrated into the landscape and activities of Baishuitai, making it more unique and charming.

Romantically lost in Turkey - Baishuitai
The formation of Baishuitai is attributed to the sedimentation of groundwater rich in calcium carbonate on the surface over the years. The snow-like white, the water-like flow, combined together, gave birth to the poetically named 'Baishuitai'. It is located in the hidden mountains in the south of Lijiang, Yunnan. As one of the largest karst landscapes in China, it seems to be a 'living fossil' inlaid by nature in the world.
Scenic Area: Baishuitai Ticket: 30/person
Transportation:
At present, there is no direct bus to Baishuitai in Lijiang, only self-driving or chartered car, carpooling
Recommended tour route:
Lijiang Tiger Leaping Gorge Baishuitai → Lijiang (day trip)
Lijiang Tiger Leaping Gorge Baishuitai → Shangri-La (you can also go the other way)
Other tips:
√There is a highway from Lijiang to Tiger Leaping Gorge. After playing in Tiger Leaping Gorge, take the Shangri-La East Ring Line to Baishuitai. The road condition is good, just pay attention to the falling rocks on the mountain side, small cars are no problem
√The road from Baishuitai to Shangri-La is still the East Ring Line, which is along the mountain ditch. Except for more bends, the whole journey is a cement road and the road condition is very good
There are buses from Lijiang Bus Station to Tiger Leaping Gorge Scenic Area, 30/person
√Seeing that Lijiang is crowded recently, there are much fewer people in Shangri-La, and Shangri-La in winter is also super beautiful!

Baishuitai, the Chinese version of Cotton Castle
A fairyland on earth | Baishuitai, China's Cotton Castle
Baishuitai, similar to the Turkish tourist attraction Cotton Castle, is a natural wonder formed by calcium carbonate dissolved in spring water. The white stone steps are stacked layer upon layer, like a white terrace. Under the sunlight, the water surface reveals different colors, really like a fairyland, where you can feel the magic and beauty of nature.
This is the birthplace of the Dongba religion of the Naxi people and a sacred place for the Naxi people. Every year on the eighth day of the second month of the lunar calendar, the Naxi people will hold sacrificial activities in Baishuitai.
📷Baishuitai is a very suitable place for taking pictures, and it is best to have aerial photography to capture the panorama. Bright clothes are more noticeable when aerial photography, and plain clothes are more fresh when taking close-ups.
📌Tips:
🚗Transportation: It is recommended to drive by yourself, two hours drive from Dukezong Ancient City. There are also buses available.
🎫Ticket: 30
🐎: There are many locals pulling horses at the foot of the mountain, 50 yuan to the top of the mountain, 10 yuan can only walk for five minutes. It's still a bit high to climb up.
✈️: If you have a drone, be sure to bring it, the scenery is completely different.
❕Note to walk on the artificial trail, do not damage the natural stone steps.

Yunnan small people take photos of the holy land | do not fly to Turkey, Shangri-La also has a Chinese version of "Pamutel"!
It should be known to many people that there is a Pamukkale in Turkey. This has always been my longing for, but few people know that there is also a very similar Pamukkale in China. Deep in the mountains of Shangri-La, 103 km from Shangri-La County, the cascade of hills and rocks, covered with a thick layer of snow in winter, is no different from cotton candy, compared with the Turkish cotton castle. Not inferior, wearing a beautiful dress to take a few photos here can really make people feel happy.
Photo Raiders: Come here to make a beautiful photo, you must choose the right time, because the mountains are all around, the morning may be a big backlight, there may be no light in the afternoon, it is speculated that it may be more suitable at noon. The time, I want to see the pure blue and white Pamukkale must be influenced by the weather light, but it can also be redesigned later. It is very difficult for the mobile party to cultivate this feeling, so be sure to bring a photo session to compose the picture. With the friends of the late skills macx! Haha ~
self-driving tour Raiders: We are driving from Lijiang early in the morning, about five hours away, the whole process is mountain road, some road sections are very poor, we must pay attention to safety, but the most beautiful scenery in the mountains The highest point.
wearing a suggestion: I have been entangled for a long time before it is white or red, and finally the girlfriends wear white, I wear red, I personally recommend wearing big red clothes, the contrast is particularly strong, especially have a feeling.

A beautiful and niche travel destination that will have your friends asking questions.
Such a beautiful place, yet so little known. When you come to Shangri-La, don't miss the "Cotton Castle" of China - Baishuitai.
A natural wonder formed over thousands of years, the white calcified pools are stacked layer upon layer, cascading down like a waterfall. In the sunlight, the clear water shimmers and glistens, presenting a dreamlike blue or green color.
No wonder it is called the "Field of the Immortals". It feels like a fairyland, and you can't help but marvel at the wonders of nature. The clear mornings or evenings on sunny days are great for taking photos!
Baishuitai is located between Shangri-La and Tiger Leaping Gorge, about a 2-hour drive from Shangri-La City. The road is in good condition, making it suitable for self-driving or carpooling. Just navigate to Baishuitai Scenic Area. There are several buses from Lijiang to Baishuitai every day.
Tickets are CNY 30 per person, and entry closes at 16:30. Parking is CNY 5 per time with no time limit.
The visit takes about 2 hours. The circular route means you won't have to double back, so take photos of the beautiful scenery as you go.
Note: There are stairs in the scenic area, which take about 15-20 minutes to climb. You can ride a horse when you first enter the scenic area, but be sure to haggle (CNY 50 per person is possible) and confirm whether the ride goes to the top of the mountain to avoid price increases halfway.

Ideal Camping: Magnificent Charm of Baishuitai
#campingfun
The Baishui Plateau, also known as the White Water Terraces, is located southeast of Shangri-La County, in the foothills of the snowy Haba Mountain (Haba). If you are reading this inscription, then someone took this article from BigPicture.ru 2000 meters above sea level. This is one of the most attractive attractions of the mysterious Shangri-La with a history of 200,000 to 300,000 years.
The white terraces are 140m long and 160m wide and are one of the largest calcium carbonate terraces in China.
Over thousands of years, water flowing down from nearby mountains has accumulated calcium carbonate dissolved in it, and created limestone terraces that currently look as if they are made of white marble.
The spring water running along the mountainside looks like a huge jade carved from a green mountain.
The carbonate-calcium layers grew gradually, layer by layer, and that made them look like terraces, so the locals nicknamed them the terraces left by the fairy. Water from the Habaxueshan Mountains seeps down from the upper terrace of the pool, then flows into the pool located below, which it fills to the brim and overflows into the next one, located even lower, and so on, until the water overflows over the outer edge of the last of this set of terraced pools. The basins themselves were turned over a long time under the influence of the erosive action of acidic waters, which in former times washed out minerals from limestone, forming weak carbonic acid.
The terraces are especially beautiful in autumn, when their shores are covered with plants with bright yellow and red leaves, and in contrast with the surrounding mountains, the plateau acquires an even more impressive appearance.
The white water terraces are considered the cradle of the Dunba religion of the Nakhi people and are a holy place for the local population.
In the Nakhi language, "Baishuitai" literally means "gradually grown flowers."
All above makes this place an ideal spot for unforgettable camping experience.

Diqing Tour (10) - Baishuitai
We toured Pudacuo National Park along the East Loop Line heading southeast, with our destination being a niche spot, Baishuitai Scenic Area, located in Baidi Village, Sanba Township, at the foot of Haba Snow Mountain. The straight-line distance from Pudacuo to Baishuitai is about 40 kilometers, but the driving distance is almost double. Two years ago, the East Loop Line was not fully paved with asphalt, and some sections were rugged and difficult to navigate. Now, the mountain road, though winding, is well-paved and easy to drive, with beautiful scenery along the way.
Baidi Village belongs to the Diqing Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, but it is a village predominantly inhabited by the Naxi people and is the birthplace of Dongba culture. The dining and accommodation facilities in the village are relatively underdeveloped.
Baishuitai features layers of jade terraces and countless cups of nectar. Viewing from different angles provides various sensory experiences. When we reached the mountain in the scenic area to watch the sunrise, the sunlight was supposed to cast a magical color on Baishuitai. Unfortunately, it was a cloudy day, and we did not see the sun, but the colors of Baishuitai were still enchanting. Baishuitai is formed by calcium carbonate precipitated from mountain spring water, slowly accumulating over time. The Naxi people have a legend of the 'Fields Left by Immortals.' Following the stream upwards, you can find three ever-gushing mountain springs, clear and refreshing.

Baishuitai Tourism
Don't be 'fooled'! You might not capture the Baishuitai you want.
Baishuitai is also a recently popular niche attraction in Shangri-La. Being there in person is very beautiful, with patches of blue and green. The naturally formed calcium carbonate accumulates into layered terraces, making it another day to marvel at nature.
Yunnan Province - Diqing - Shangri-La City - Baishuitai
The pictures you see online are very beautiful, but many of the more perfect compositions are taken from high-altitude drone shots. Without a drone, you can basically only capture what the pictures show. Of course, there might be better angles that I haven't discovered. However, I still recommend preparing a drone before coming here.
There is also a clear spring nearby, with water gushing out from the spring eye. The water is particularly cold. We submerged our entire forearms into it and competed to see whose hand could stay in the water the longest. In the end, I lost to a 14-year-old girl.
I want to see if the Baishuitai in everyone's hands has captured the angle I want.

Baishuitai, the Sacred Land of Dongba || You're really having a blast!
Baishuitai is located at the foot of Haba Snow Mountain, in Baidi Village, Sanba Township, southeast of Shangri-La County, Yunnan, 101 kilometers from the county seat, at an altitude of 2380 meters. It is the birthplace of the Naxi people's Dongba religion.
It is a natural wonder formed by the dissolution of calcium carbonate in spring water. The spring water, containing calcium bicarbonate, flows slowly, and the carbonate gradually precipitates, forming terraces over the years, resembling layered terraces, known as 'Fields Left by the Immortals', covering an area of about 3 square kilometers. It is the largest travertine terrace in China. The white calcium carbonate precipitate accumulates continuously, covering the ground, scattering like a slanted moon.
In the Naxi language, Baishuitai is called 'Shi Bu Zhi', meaning a flower that grows gradually. Baishuitai is also known by the beautiful name 'Fields Left by the Immortals'.
🌈 Be sure not to ride a horse at the entrance, walk the whole way by yourself, the scenery along the way is also very beautiful, the most beautiful part is definitely at the highest point, which cannot be reached by horse. On the way back, take another road, which is also very beautiful.

👐Breaking news~ Breaking news!
The previously very difficult to reach 'Chinese version of Cotton Castle' Baishuitai Scenic Area now has all the roads repaired!! The road conditions are super good all the way, it's no longer difficult to go to this Naxi holy land to see the beautiful scenery~ Take advantage of the fact that there are still very few people, hurry up and go!!
⛳Transportation: Directly navigate to 'Baishuitai', it is a 3-hour drive from Lijiang. There is currently no public transportation to go there, either drive yourself, charter a car or join a tour group (I joined a tour group).
Mini guide:
1 The entrance fee for Baishuitai Scenic Area is 30 yuan/person, it takes about 15 minutes to climb the slope from the entrance of the scenic area to the viewing platform, and it requires a certain amount of physical strength. If you can't climb up, you can ride a horse up the mountain. The way up and down the mountain is a loop, no need to return the same way.
2 The most essential part of Baishuitai is in the 'Fairy's Legacy Field', there is a viewing platform next to it where you can overlook the whole view.
3 There are farmhouses where you can eat at the entrance of Baishuitai Scenic Area, and there are also small shops and the like. However, the toilets in the scenic area are particularly terrifying, it is not recommended to go... (similar to a biochemical bomb).
4 On the way to Baishuitai, you can visit Tiger Leaping Gorge along the way, and you can also see Jade Dragon Snow Mountain and Haba Snow Mountain.
5 Introduction to Baishuitai: Baishuitai is located at the foot of Haba Snow Mountain, in Baidi Village, Sanba Township, southeast of Shangri-La County, 101 kilometers from the county seat, at an altitude of 2380 meters, it is the birthplace of the Dongba religion of the Naxi people. Baishuitai, the sacred land of the Naxi in Shangri-La, is one of the largest spring terraces in China
The well-defined fields sketch out the naturally beautiful lines, and the clear and transparent water fills them. Under the reflection of the blue sky, the water seems to have turned into a mysterious blue. The mud and sand in the fields are also milky white (deposits of calcium carbonate). These blue and white fields resemble a series of crescent moons put together. They shimmer and the gentle flowing water along the edges of the fields slowly moves, leaving behind beautiful traces in the mud and sand.

Baishuitai, the Cotton Castle of Shangri-La
Located at the foot of Haba Snow Mountain, in Sanba Township, Shangri-La City, Diqing Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Yunnan Province, Baishuitai has an altitude of 2380 meters and covers an area of about 3 square kilometers. Every inch of soil here is sacred and elegant, in shades of milky white and some light yellow. This is due to the calcium bicarbonate in the water, which, after being exposed to sunlight, leaves behind calcium carbonate as a white precipitate when the water evaporates. It is known as the 'Fairyland Fields' and in the Naxi language, it is called 'Babuzhi', meaning a lotus flower that grows gradually, and it is the largest travertine terrace in China.

The sacred site of Dongba, 'Baishuitai'
Baishuitai is located at the foot of Haba Snow Mountain, at an altitude of 2380 meters, and is a natural wonder formed by the dissolution of calcium carbonate in spring water. The spring water, containing calcium bicarbonate, flows slowly, and the carbonate gradually precipitates, forming terraces over the years, resembling layered terraces, known as 'Fields Left by Fairies'. Covering an area of about 3 square kilometers, it is the largest travertine terrace in China, very similar to Turkey's Pamukkale.
Baishuitai is the birthplace of the Naxi people's Dongba religion, hence it is called the Dongba sacred site (Image 2)
The brand new visitor reception plaza (Image 3), which was not yet open when we visited. The bronze statue in the middle is the natural god worshipped by the Naxi people - Shu
The Goddess Appears (Image 4), a natural statue at the foot of Baishuitai, white as jade, resembling a pregnant woman, is a place where local people worship the fertility god and where newlyweds pray for children
The crescent-shaped travertine pool, also known as the Colorful Pool (Image 5), is another micro-geomorphological form created by travertine accumulation, and is the most wonderful and aesthetically rich terrain among the travertine accumulations of Baishuitai. The pools vary in height by 10-15 centimeters from each other, stacking up from top to bottom, resembling new moons and terraces, and Baishuitai is known as 'Fields Left by Fairies' precisely because of these pools
The spring terrace of Baishuitai (Image 6), compared to the majestic splendor of Turkey's Pamukkale, appears more delicate and exquisite.
The Fairy Bathing Pool (Images 7-8), where the divine spring water of Baishuitai flows out and gathers on the terrace to form colorful and varied pools
The Divine Spring (Image 9), is the source of water that creates the natural wonder of Baishuitai

PS:
1. Baishuitai is a must-visit spot on the Shangri-La East Scenic Route (Tiger Fragrance Highway), and the tour route is very simple, going up on the left and down on the right, a one-way loop, and for those who really don't want to climb, there is also the option to ride a horse (charged service)
2. When we went during the Spring Festival, there was almost nothing to eat nearby, we only found a small shop to buy instant noodles to make do (I don't know if it has improved since then), so it's best to prepare some dry food yourself.
3. Baishuitai is still relatively off the beaten path and can only be reached by self-driving. The road from Lijiang to Baishuitai, except for the thrilling section near Tiger Leaping Gorge, is overall in good condition.

Baishuitai is not only a beautiful place, but also the center of the birthplace of the Naxi Dongba religion, the place for religious activities and ethnic programs.
✅According to research, Baishuitai was originally used to worship gods. It is said that the first holy ancestor of the Naxi Dongba religion, Dingbashiluo, was attracted by the beautiful scenery of Baishuitai on his way back from studying Buddhist scriptures in Tibet, and stayed to set up an altar to preach, so it is a sacred place for Naxi Dongba believers. The local Naxi people's houses, costumes and crafts are also very distinctive.
✅As early as the Tang and Song dynasties, Baishuitai had become a famous tourist spot in western Yunnan. On the stone wall at the source, there is a poem written by the Naxi native prefect Mu Gao of the Ming Dynasty: 'Five hundred years ago, a monk, once lived in the Buddha land to guard Hong Neng. Cloud waves and snow waves have three thousand ridges, jade ridges and silver hills have tens of thousands of ridges. The winding flow is not stained with dust, and the layers of jade surge and the water is always solidified. The Yangtze River will always be the jade of the heart field, and I admire this high man for being superior.'
✅Dongba culture
Shangri-La County is a Tibetan-inhabited area, but the area near Lijiang Drum is mostly Naxi, and it is the birthplace of the Naxi 'Dongba culture'. Dongba religion is an ancient religion of the Naxi people, 'Dongba', can be translated as 'mountain chanters'. Every year in mid-spring, on the eighth day of the second lunar month, nearby residents often come to worship, and Dongba from afar also come to worship. People 'do not count a hundred miles to come, offer wine and tea, do not agree to a thousand people to gather', year after year, it has become a custom, and the eighth day of the second lunar month has become a grand event for Sanba spring outing.

Eastern Pamukkale: A sun rain on the Baishuitai
This trip to the South China Spring Festival, every day I thought the surprise had reached its peak, but there was always an unexpected climax the next day. For example, on the second day of the afternoon tea in the Haba Snow Mountain tent, we came to the legendary Eastern Pamukkale, the birthplace of Naxi Dongba culture, and Baishuitai.
When climbing to the top of the white water table, the sky was raining. The game of sunshine and rain makes this place even less like the world.
I have always felt that the names translated in minority languages are full of honey and wine. In the meaning of Naxi, Baishuitai is flowers that grow up gradually. From the visual point of view, it is also like a holy flower with white bottoms. It opens the beautiful petals on the foothills of Haba Snow Mountain. Viewed from the side, it looks like a pure white terraced rice field, with the clearest blue watercolor, layered with layers.
The principle of this special landform is said to be the chemical reaction of underground spring water and calcium carbonate. The liberal arts students said that sometimes the truth of science is something that can be ignored for the time being. The power of nature is comparable to the Creator. If there are myths and legends, God should live in this holy land.

Shangri-La's Baishui Terrace, many people still know that the blue-green scene here is like a large piece of jade! I like the warm and pure jade of the jade
first come to Amway, Baishuitai is located in the Haba Snow Mountain, 103 kilometers away from Shangri-La County, 2380 meters above sea level. It is a natural wonder formed by the dissolution of calcium carbonate in spring water. The spring water containing calcium bicarbonate slowly flows down, and the carbonate gradually precipitates. It has formed Taiwanese rafts for many years. It is like a terraced field. It is called "the fairy land". I want to live a fairy life like this. ! I really want to live in this piece of green for a day or two to feel the fairyland on earth. This is the life I yearn for!
