Wat Ratchathiwat, an ancient temple
#GetDiscountWithoutLuck
Wat Ratcha Thiwat was originally called "Wat Samorai". It is an extremely old temple, but there is no evidence of when it was built. It is assumed that it was built during the Ayutthaya period. During the Rattanakosin period, Wat Ratcha Thiwat was the temple where many royals stayed while they were ordained, such as King Phutthaloetla Naphalai when he was His Royal Highness Prince Isarasunthon, King Mongkut when he was His Royal Highness Prince Mongkut, and Prince Maha Senanurak when he was His Royal Highness Prince Kromkhun Senanurak, and many other royals.
When King Mongkut ascended to the throne in Chula Sakarat 1213 (B.E. 2394), he gave Wat Samorai a new name: “Wat Ratcha Thiwat Wihan” has been around until today.
Wat Ratcha Thiwat is located on Soi Samsen 9, Dusit District, Bangkok.
It has beautiful murals, especially the paintings of Somdej Kru or His Royal Highness Prince Narisara Nuvadtivongse, which are a combination of Western and Buddhist painting. In addition, this temple also has a principal Buddha image that is over 100 years old for visitors to pay homage to.
Wat Ratcha Thiwat is open every day from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. It is another beautiful temple worth visiting in Bangkok, both to admire the beauty of its architecture and paintings, and to pay homage to the sacred objects in this temple.

Wat Ratchathiwat Ratchaworawihan
Wat Ratchathiwat Wihan, Bangkok
🙏This is an ancient temple that is important. It was once the residence of King Rama IV during his ordination. It is the birthplace of the Dhammayuttika Nikaya sect.
🙏The ordination hall is in the Khmer style. Inside, there are three rooms: the front room is a balcony, the middle room is a ceremony room, and the principal Buddha image is called Phra Samputthaphanni. The back room has the principal Buddha image called Phra Samputthawattanophas, which is an ancient stucco Buddha image.
💐In the ordination hall, there is Phra Samputthaphanni, the principal Buddha image. There is a nine-tiered white umbrella, which King Rama V casted as a royal offering. Above the principal Buddha image is the image of the Buddha above the clouds answering the questions of Phra Sariputta and Phra Indra. Near the principal Buddha image, there are images of Sakya kings and their relatives in attendance behind.
👍 The niches with the royal seals of the five reigns at the ordination hall of Wat Ratchathiwat are the only beautifully made stucco work in Thailand.
💐The murals inside the chapel are painted in a Western technique called wet fresco, depicting the Vessantara Jataka. His Royal Highness Prince Narisara Nuvadtivongse was the artist, and the Italian Rigoli (who painted the ceiling dome in Ananta Samakhom Throne Hall) was the artist.
🙏The white pagoda is a Javanese-style pagoda from the Srivijaya period built to cover an old pagoda. On top is a Mahayana-style stone Buddha image enshrined in a niche, and the entire base is lined with lion statues surrounding the base of the pagoda.
👍The sala is made of beautiful teak wood and can accommodate no less than a thousand people. His Royal Highness Prince Narisara Nuvadtivongse ordered it to be built in a replica of the sala sala at Wat Yai Suwannaram in Phetchaburi Province.

This ancient temple has been continuously restored by the kings. It is a significant royal temple, especially notable for its beautiful murals inside the ordination hall, which depict the 13 chapters of the Vessantara Jataka. These murals were painted by Mr. Rigoli, an Italian artist, using a new technique introduced during the reign of King Rama V. The main Buddha image in the ordination hall is Phra Sumpunnee, and the hall is open for worship every day during two time slots: 8:30 - 10:30 AM and 1:00 - 4:00 PM. The pagoda features Mahayana-style stone Buddha images on all four sides. Additionally, the temple boasts a beautiful sermon hall in the Rattanakosin style, the King Mongkut's residence, the Queen Mother's residence, and the Four Seasons residence. The temple is very peaceful, shaded by large and small trees, with a cool breeze blowing from the Chao Phraya River.
