Baixian Nanhu Temple is located near the center of Baixian County and is said to have a history of more than 400 years. It is regarded as a holy place by the locals. This is one of the oldest temples in Pai. It is the shrine of Chao Pho Aun Muang, a sacred Buddha image made of bronze. This Buddha image has a hollow head, and the upper part can be opened and closed, and there is water inside. It is the Buddha image of Singh Sam, which is approximately 500 years old. In 1972, a wandering monk from Chiang Mai Province came to pay homage and wondered if there was water inside the Buddha image, so he opened it and found that there really was water. This news spread and people came to ask for water to pay homage. When the water in the Buddha image’s head ran out, it would leak out all the time. Therefore, people often came to ask for holy water to pay homage. This Nam Hu temple has the hair of Princess Suphan Kanlaya. Behind the temple or chapel of Nam Hu temple, there is a golden pagoda called the Phra Suphan Kanlaya Relics Pagoda. Looking out to the side, there is a pavilion with a picture of the princess. This pagoda has no clear record of its construction. It is believed that it was built by King Naresuan the Great to enshrine the ashes of Princess Suphankanlaya, who was sent as a hostage to Burma in place of King Naresuan the Great, but was later assassinated in Burma.
