Wat Bang Thong, also known as Wat Mahathat Wachiramongkol, is one of the most beautiful and grand temples in the south of Thailand. This temple is distinguished by its large chedi with exquisite and unique architecture inspired by Phra Pathom Chedi. The temple is intricately decorated with detailed Thai Buddhist art. The chedi at Wat Bang Thong is considered one of the tallest in Thailand. Visitors can go inside the chedi, where a Buddha statue is enshrined, and enjoy the beautiful surrounding nature views. There are also significant places within the temple worth exploring, such as the large ordination hall with beautiful stucco patterns, mural paintings, and elegant architectural art. The area around the temple is a rubber plantation and an oil palm plantation. Later, it received the royal charter on February 13, 1953. The charter area is 30 meters wide and 70 meters long. The boundary marker ceremony was held on March 14, 1976.[2] In 2002, the Sangha Supreme Council saw its importance and built a Buddhist temple and a pagoda to honor His Majesty. The highlight of the temple is the pagoda in honor of His Majesty the King, who at that time held the title of Crown Prince. His Royal Highness Crown Prince Maha Vajiralongkorn Phra Mahathat Chedi is approximately 95 meters high. The surrounding area is decorated similarly to the Mahabodhi Chedi of Bodh Gaya, the place where the Buddha attained enlightenment in India. Around the Mahabodhi Chedi are galleries on all 4 sides and there are many Buddha images enshrined. Inside the Mahabodhi Chedi is a large principal Buddha image. There are murals telling stories about the life of the Buddha and decorated with graceful Thai scrollwork.[3]

In March of this year, we had the opportunity to visit Wat Bang Thong with our family to pay homage to the Buddha's relics and to bring auspiciousness to our lives. The temple grounds are spacious, open, and airy. The main highlight is the Great Chedi, which is influenced by the Mahabodhi Temple in Bodh Gaya, India, where the Buddha attained enlightenment. It stands 95 meters tall, with a stunning golden-yellow color. In the evening, candles are lit in front of the temple entrance, and the yellow-orange glow from the candles adds to the beauty. What to prepare: If you visit around noon, it's advisable to bring an umbrella as there are few shaded areas, and it can get quite hot.
