The War Memorial of Korea (Korean: 전쟁기념관) is a museum located in Yongsan-dong, Yongsan-gu, Seoul, South Korea. It opened in 1994 on the former site of the army headquarters to exhibit and memorialize the military history of Korea. It was built for the purpose of preventing war through lessons from the Korean War and for the hoped for peaceful reunification of North and South Korea. The memorial building has six indoor exhibition rooms and an outdoor exhibition centre displaying war memorabilia and military equipment from China, South Korea and the United States.

My final stop on my Asian holiday was Seoul, South Korea. This was a really cool city to visit, with a lot of variety. The subway system was very straightforward to get around on, which meant that in the few days we were there, we managed to visit Gyeongbukgung Palace, Bukchong Hanok Village (the old town), Culture Street in the Insadong district, a Buddhist temple holding evening prayers, the War Memorial of Korea (which was excellently curated and thoroughly educational), Bukhansan national park, and the old city wall. This is a must visit when you are in Seoul. Nice and Quiet place where you will learn about Korea history. Admission is Free. Easily spent half a day there. Indoor, there’s a replica of the Turtle War Ship. it’s amazing. Outdoor it’s where all the War vehicle/Planes/Tanks/Ship/Missiles are displayed. Very nice looking. You can even board some of the plane and ship.

The War Memorial of Korea is a private museum built on surplus land when the Army Headquarters moved to Gyeryong-daero, Chungcheongnam-do in 1989. It was originally scheduled to start construction in September 1990 and be completed in May 1993, but it actually started construction in 1991 and opened on June 10, 1994. Since it is such a large memorial hall, I recommend that you set aside a day to visit, and if you do, I think it will be a meaningful visit for families or couples.
