The Wanshou Palace is located on an island in the middle of the lake in Xianghu Park. It is connected to both banks by a stone bridge. The memorial archway on the east side is inscribed with calligraphy by famous calligraphers such as Wang Xizhi and Su Shi. It was first built in the Eastern Jin Dynasty to commemorate Xu Xun, the founder of the Jingming School of Taoism. The existing building complex faces north and south, and is mainly in the style of the Qing Dynasty. It integrates history, culture and natural landscapes, and is an important Taoist cultural landmark in the Jiangnan region. The main building complex is distributed along the central axis. The Zhenjun Hall, the Jade Emperor Hall and other halls have flying eaves and brackets, and the caisson paintings are well preserved. There are towering ancient trees in the courtyard, and incense has lasted for thousands of years. Visitors can focus on viewing cultural relics such as the iron cast octagonal furnace and the Ming Dynasty bronze bell, and feel the integration of Taoist architecture and folk beliefs. The scenic area is adjacent to the Tengwang Pavilion. It is recommended to visit it in conjunction with the Shengjin Pagoda and the August 1st Uprising Memorial Hall. A temple fair is held during the birthday of Xu Xun in the first month of the lunar calendar every year, and Taoist rituals and local opera performances can be watched.
