[2025 Kalena Rongo Attraction] Travel Guide for Waikuri Lagoon (Updated Mar)

Sumba Island located in the eastern part of Indonesia is one of my favorite destinations. Its exotic culture and nature attracted me to visit this island. And I was very impressed when I had the opportunity to enjoy the stunning lagoon in a remote area called Weekuri (or Waikuri). My 45 km journey from Tambolaka - the capital of Southwest Sumba Regency was well paid for. The entrance ticket was affordable too. By paying IDR 20,000, I got the luxury experience of bathing in the crystal clearest lagoon I've ever seen in my life. There’re washroom and changing room to be used after bathing or swimming. Apart from this facility, there’re also vendors selling cup noodles, coconuts and other snacks. As the lagoon is located quite far from the city, there is no public transportation available to get there. It's better if you rent a private car, so you can also stop by at the other beautiful natural and cultural destinations in Sumba. #lagoon #sumba #island #indonesia

#celebrateit In Southwest Sumba, Waikuri Lagoon is the kind of place that makes you stop and take it all in. The water is impossibly clear, shifting between shades of turquoise and emerald, and the stillness of the lagoon makes it feel worlds apart from Sumba’s wild coastline. What’s unique about this spot is the mix of saltwater and freshwater, giving it an almost unreal clarity. It’s perfect for floating, swimming, or just cooling off after a long day of exploring. The lagoon is framed by rugged rock formations and mangroves, adding to the untouched, almost otherworldly feel of the place. If you’re up for some fun, there are natural ledges for cliff jumping, or you can simply wade through the shallows and let the sun warm your skin. It’s the kind of place where time slows down, where the only thing that matters is the water, the breeze, and the feeling of being somewhere truly special.

I went to the large island of Sumba, located further east from the island of Bali in Indonesia. It was an island rich in nature and had a pleasant breeze. It's about an hour by plane from Bali. It's like a big pool of water where the waves from the ocean flow in. I enjoyed splashing around, watching the waves, and spending a relaxing and calm time. Looking down from a high place, or going in. It's a recommended spot for nature lovers. Do you love to swim in perfect clear water where you can see to the ground even when it is deep? Then this is the right place for you guys! This Lagoon is not mich growded yet, bit will me more in the upcoming years, for sure! There is also something to jump in from 5 meters hight, or you just wanna swimm in that awesome place! There are as well local people who are selling coconuts for only 10k per piece. Check it out by yourself, you will love it there :)
