Founded in 1966, the Vietnam Art Museum is one of the five key museums directly under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Culture and Information of Vietnam. The Vietnam Museum of Fine Arts has well preserved Vietnamese art from prehistory to early history to modern times. In 1962, the Vietnam National Academy of Arts and Crafts was established, which provided the necessary human and material foundation for the establishment of the museum. Under the impetus of painter Nguyen Do Cung, the pioneers of the National Academy of Arts and Crafts began to work on the transformation of the academy into an art museum, including transforming the building shape of the academy from the original European style into a building with local characteristics of Vietnam, and making it have the function of the art gallery. The museum's collection display system mainly includes the following six themes: Vietnamese art from prehistoric and early historical stages; Vietnamese art from the eleventh to nineteenth centuries; paintings and sculptures from the twentieth to the twenty-first century; applied decoration Art; Vietnamese folk art; Vietnamese ceramics from the 11th to the 21st century.
