Urquhart Castle at Loch Ness🦕
#traveldiaries
Urquhart Castle's ruins, one of the largest in Scotland, are situated on a headland with panoramic views overlooking Loch Ness - it's iconic and there is simply nothing quite like it.
Climb the Grant Tower that watches over the iconic loch, peer into a miserable prison cell, said to have held the legendary Gaelic bard Domhnall Donn, and imagine the splendid banquets staged in the great hall. A more comfortable view of the iconic ruins, against a backdrop of Loch Ness and the hills of the Great Glen, can be enjoyed from the café.
Urquhart’s stories are also told through a remarkable collection of artefacts left by its residents, historic replicas, including a full-sized, working trebuchet siege engine, and a short film. The castle has a distinctly Highland heritage and the site has witnessed some of the most dramatic chapters in our nation’s history. This is where St Columba is said to have worked miracles in the 6th century, where acts of chivalry and defiance provided inspiration during the Wars of Independence and where the MacDonald Lords of the Isles struggled with the Crown for power.

✔️A 13th-century castle ruin located in Scotland, UK
✔️Among medieval Scottish castles, it is known to be quite large, but when visited, only the skeleton remains.
Accessible by cruise on Loch Ness (also accessible by land)
The castle was built in 1230 and was occupied by the English army under Edward I in 1296, but was reclaimed by the Scottish royal family in the mid-14th century. The castle was severely damaged in 1792 and has since become a ruin, which seems to be its current state.

Urquhart Castle Inverness, Highlands, Scotland.
An amazing castle with a great and interesting history. I went during the fort's opening hours and was almost alone in the castle. Whether the weather is clear or cloudy, the scenery is really great, and I definitely recommend it!
A wonderful place to stop along the ramparts to experience the medieval era. The castle has a fantastic view of the loch and is quite nice. There are many stairs to climb to walk around the castle, but it's worth it. There are also nice souvenir shops, clean toilet facilities, and a nice cafe in the area. We paid 14 pounds per adult for entry to the castle. There is plenty of parking space outside the attraction.
The clouds are barely hanging over the water, and the ruins stand between the emerald forests and the wildflower meadows. The view of the loch is perfect. Sit and marvel if there aren't too many tourists. It's a destination you must stop at if you're passing by.
An amazing historic castle in the Loch Ness region. Most aspects of the castle ruins are detailed on information boards. There are a few free guided tours, but I cannot attest to their quality as we chose not to join them. Unfortunately, the gift shop and cinema were closed. It's 1 pound for Young Scot cardholders! I would definitely recommend it to anyone traveling through the Highlands.
The tour guides around are very friendly. They embrace the history and bring it to life, and you will be informed and appreciative.

Urquahart Castle - Scotland
This is a castle known as A castle for all seasons. During the Christmas period in the UK, the little human had no preconceptions and was able to step into it and be intoxicated by the scenery. Such a wonderful thing happened naturally with great luck.
From the visitor center upstairs and downstairs, near the entrance, the little human's eyes were fixed. What followed was an indescribable brilliant and open mood. Yes, just as these pictures show, the little human witnessed the irregularly shaped free clouds that make up the fairyland, the light blue cold and silent deep lake water, the large green grassland that humans have no heart to trample on, and the fortress that can glimpse the traces of history due to half damage...
This is one of the most beautiful sceneries that the little human was fortunate to see in Scotland, and only used reckless running to express the mood of being intoxicated by this scene and this situation
