Night tour of Tunxi, feel the taste of Huizhou Old Street
Tunxi Old Street is located in the center of Tunxi District, Huangshan City, 10 minutes drive from Huangshan Country Garden Phoenix Hotel, has been hundreds of years old, inlaid between green mountains and green waters Known as the mobile Qingming Shanghe Map, it is 832 meters long and 5~8 meters wide. It is the most complete pedestrian commercial street in China with Song, Ming and Qing dynasties.
As a century-old street, Tunxi Old Street retains the essence of Huizhou architecture. Black tiles and pure white walls reveal a quaint style. The old window sills exude old wood. The pavement of brick and wood structure, exquisite pavilions, beautifully carved patterns, every detail is so fine. When we were kneeling on the old street, walking on the stone road, admiring the quaint shops, the dazzling tourist souvenirs, and the ancient signboards and ancient foreheads with the charm of calligraphy, as if they were in the corridor of history, they felt its Ancient atmosphere.
Old Street is lined with shops, mostly double-storey brick and wood structure, all-in-one Huizhou style. More than 100 film and television works have been filmed in Lao Cai.
Walk the old street, in addition to appreciate the antique ancient buildings, eating is of course essential. There is also a snack street across the old road in the old street. The whole street is a century-old shop and an old brand. There are not only a variety of food, but also some specialty shops...

Tunxi Old Street
Huizhou Trip (Part 1) Tunxi Old Street
On January 6, 2024, we set off, taking the high-speed train via Changsha to Huangshan North, and stayed in Tunxi. The next day, a bowl of yellow flower bamboo shoot and shredded pork noodles officially kicked off our Huizhou trip.
In the early morning, Tunxi Old Street was sparsely populated, with most shops not yet open for business. Strolling along the quiet streets, the main street was largely commercialized, lined with various shops. Only the Wancui Building at the street corner, and the heavy signboard and densely packed herbal cabinets of the Tongde Ren Pharmacy in the old street, still exuded a sense of history. Wandering into a small alley by chance, climbing up a small building, and overlooking the white walls, black tiles, and horse-head walls, one couldn't help but marvel at the rapid changes of the times.
At the end of Tunxi Old Street, crossing the stone bridge, is Liyang Water Street. The style here is completely different from Tunxi Old Street. Although it is also lined with shops, what is sold and displayed are all in styles favored by young people.
Both Tunxi Old Street and Liyang Water Street are close to the Xin'an River. The Wenfeng Bridge on the Xin'an River is a covered bridge that connects both sides of the river.

I am at Huangshan, where I found the flowing 'Riverside Scene at Qingming Festival'
✨Everyone has an old street in their heart, paved with bluestone slabs, lined with shops. In Huangshan, Anhui, there is such an old street, known as the 'flowing Riverside Scene at Qingming Festival'. Spanning 1272 meters, it is the best-preserved ancient Huizhou street in China, located at the confluence of the Lateral River, Shuai River, and Xin'an River. It consists of more than 300 Huizhou-style buildings, with a market layout resembling a fishbone.
·
🛎️⛩️Tunxi Old Street has been a bustling marketplace since ancient times. Its prosperity dates back to the Southern and Northern Dynasties, becoming particularly flourishing at the end of the Yuan Dynasty and the beginning of the Ming Dynasty, and reaching its peak during the Ming and Qing Dynasties.
·
⁉️What to explore?
🔸Tunxi Old Street is now home to many shops where people buy Huangshan specialties such as pastries, tea, and Hui ink, with a strong commercial atmosphere.
🔸There are many Hui cuisine restaurants on the old street, and dining here is a good choice (though prices may be higher).
🔸Some museums within the old street are not open every day, so it's mostly about luck.
🔸Strolling the old street at night is brightly lit and has a unique atmosphere! Be sure to come before 21:00, as the nightlife in Huangshan is quite short.
📕Tips:
✨The merchants on the old street are very enthusiastic and will offer you free tastings of Huangshan specialties. You can definitely consider which shop to buy from after trying.
·
🎉👍🏻Recommendations:
🧇Wucheng tea-flavored dried tofu is very good! Spicy and tasty~
🌮Huangshan pastries are best in their original flavor~
🍞Try the special hairy tofu!
🍝For Hui cuisine, you can go to the Old Street No.1 Building, or other places in the city area such as Yilou Shiye, Baijia Qianwei, etc.
·

The Ancient Wenchang Path in the Clouds.
【Introduction】:
Walking through ancient villages in the mountains,
Standing on the ridge with a broad view,
Distant mountains, villages, roads, rivers, and flower fields are all in sight.
The Huizhou-style horse-head walls, solid earth buildings, and flower fields are reflected,
In the season of blooming spring,
The ancient path is as flat as a whetstone,
Walking on it, steps are light,
On both sides, the sea of rapeseed flowers is like a tide (during the rapeseed flower season),
The fragrant wind brushes against the sleeves.
Those hidden in the mountains and waters,
The unknown ancient Huizhou.
🕘【Opening Hours】: Open all day
💴【Ticket Price】: Currently free
⛺【Activities】:
The Ancient Wenchang Path, located within Shexian County, is about 42 kilometers from the ancient city of Huizhou, centered around Wenshan Village in Chakou Town, connecting the three towns of Chakou, Wuyang, and Changxi in Shexian County. It is 6 kilometers long and 1.8 meters wide, entirely paved with fine bluestone slabs. The bluestone slabs along the road are well-preserved, winding and secluded, with an ancient charm.
The Ancient Wenchang Path connects two mountain ridges over 600 meters above sea level, Wenshan Ridge and Ba Ridge, with a 2000-meter-long horizontal road in between. Six pavilions were built along the way for mountain people to rest while working or visiting relatives. The Ancient Wenchang Path was once the main passage for the people of Dazhouyuan to the outside world. The people of Dazhouyuan used this path to carry rice to Jingde, study in the county town, and do business in Zhejiang.
The ancient path from Chakou Village to Wenshan Village is about 2.5 kilometers long, with 1736 stone steps. Wenshan Village is a true mountain village, with almost no flat land. The houses are built on the mountainside at an altitude of about 600 meters.
There is a place called "Hundred-Step Ladder" in the middle of the ancient path, with more than a hundred steps built along the cliff, curving around the mountain pass. The people of Wenshan Village say that the stonemason who built this place boasted that if any stone slab became loose decades later, he would use silver dollars to level it. Nearly a hundred years have passed, and the "Hundred-Step Ladder" is still firm and neat.
After passing the Hundred-Step Ladder and walking for another three to five minutes, you will reach the three-way intersection of the ancient path: left to Chengfuyuan Village in Wuyang Township, right to the foot of Ba Ridge in Bayuan Village, Changxi Township. Standing at the three-way intersection, looking around at the ancient path winding through the mountain ridges, the hurried figures of Huizhou merchants from a hundred years ago seem to reappear in the morning mist.
🚌【Transportation Guide】: (Recommended to drive)
1: Hangrui Expressway/G56 (Huihang Expressway) Shexian Jinshan Exit: 30 kilometers to Chakou (entrance of the Ancient Wenchang Path), about 45 minutes by car, passing through S324 and X012 lines; 32 kilometers to the middle section of the ancient path (Wenshan Village), about 50 minutes by car.

❗There is really no need to join a tour group when visiting Mount Huangshan, as all the attractions are scattered and mostly natural landscapes, just enjoy the experience on your own.
❗Be sure to book hotels, tickets (plane/train), and plan your trip in advance
❗Always ask for prices before consuming, especially as prices in the mountainous scenic areas will be much higher than in the city (most of the supplies in the scenic area are carried up the mountain by manpower)
❗There are those who sell low-priced tickets or scalped tickets at many scenic area entrances, no matter how cheap, do not pay attention to them
❗Remember to bring an umbrella for both sun and rain, and if you're going hiking, bring a raincoat, as the weather in the scenic area can change quickly due to altitude and terrain, with strong convective weather often occurring in summer
❗Remember to buy tickets for popular attractions in advance! Be sure to carry your identification documents, as some attractions require real-name authentication.

How can you not visit the old street when traveling to Huangshan in Anhui? | A comfortable and beautiful life
❤️ Tunxi Old Street, known as the living 'Along the River During the Qingming Festival', is located at the confluence of the Xin'an River, the Rate River, and the Heng River. Merchants from Huizhou 'store their local products on the stream', with a total length of 1273 meters, forming a fishbone pattern. You can get off at the Er Ma Road station by bus, or navigate directly to Tunxi Old Street by car to enter the main scenic area.
At night, Tunxi Old Street is exceptionally beautiful, with dark flowing lights and neon dancing in the sky.
✅ Tongde Ren Pharmacy.
Founded in 1863, it is a century-old traditional Chinese medicine shop with a long-standing reputation. Unlike the bustling streets, the strong scent of Chinese medicine, the Huizhou-style patios, and the hanging picture of a mountain deer in the central hall all seem to tell the history of the old street.
✅ Tunxi Museum
Free admission, the museum houses more than 1,800 Huizhou collections, displaying paintings, brick carvings, and wood carvings to visitors.
✅ Wancai Tower
China's first private museum in the form of ancient architecture, with an admission fee.
✅ Wang Yi Tiao Wonton
A famous local snack, small in size, with skin as thin as paper, through which you can vaguely see the filling inside, with the essence all in the soup.
✅ De Xin Shi Fu, a famous Hui cuisine restaurant
The shop has an antique vibe, and the proprietress is very enthusiastic, making guests feel at home. The stinky mandarin fish in a clay pot is their signature dish. Bamboo chicken and scallion oil river shrimp are generous in portion and taste good.
✅ Lingshan Fermented Glutinous Rice
You can pair the fermented rice with small glutinous rice balls, egg mothers, red bean paste, etc. Chilled fermented rice is definitely a summer heat reliever

There are two streets you must visit when you come to Huangshan
Catch the tail end of the National Day holiday and take a stroll through the streets of Huangshan.
The streets of Liyang during the Tang and Song dynasties, and Tunxi during the Ming and Qing dynasties. These two old streets have witnessed the continuous development of commercial areas from ancient times to the present, and they also represent the inheritance and continuation of the Huizhou merchants' spirit.
📍Detailed address: Tunxi Old Street and Liyang Old Street are separated by a bridge (Zhenhai Bridge) Tunxi Old Street Liyang Old Street
🌟Highlights: Although both old streets have become commercialized, Tunxi Old Street has more of a feel to it, and it's very comfortable to walk along the river; Liyang Old Street is more modernized, and there are also many local young people.
⏳Recommended visiting time: Two hours, one hour for each street, fewer people in the afternoon, more at night.
🍽Dining recommendation: There are many places selling Huangshan pastries, but the one sold by the old lady in the middle of Tunxi Old Street in picture 5 is the most fragrant and also very affordable.
First impressions of Huangshan are good, next stop Hongcun~

the true wonton legends are across the pond
**Review of the Hidden Gem Wonton Place on Market Street, China**
Nestled on the ancient and bustling Market Street in China, just opposite the legendary wonton establishment, lies a culinary treasure that has, quite deservedly, earned my highest praise. This unassuming eatery, devoid of the usual fanfare, serves what I can only describe as the epitome of wonton perfection.
As you step in, the contrast between this place and its famous neighbor is immediately apparent. Here, the focus is squarely on the food. The interior, simple yet inviting, is imbued with a sense of history that only enhances the dining experience.
The wontons themselves are a revelation. Each piece is a testament to the chef's mastery over their craft. The wrappers are impossibly delicate, yet strong enough to hold the succulent filling without a hint of sogginess. Speaking of the filling, it's a harmonious blend of finely minced pork, seasoned to perfection with a secret mix of herbs and spices that the chef guards zealously. Each bite is a symphony of flavors, perfectly balanced and utterly satisfying.
But it's not just the wontons that shine here. The accompanying broth deserves its own accolade. Rich, flavorful, and with just the right amount of seasoning, it complements the wontons beautifully, elevating the whole dish to a level that's hard to find elsewhere.
Service at this humble eatery is warm and welcoming, with staff who genuinely care about your dining experience. Prices are more than reasonable, especially given the quality of the food.
In conclusion, this little wonton place on Market Street, overshadowed by its famous neighbor, is a must-visit for anyone seeking culinary delights in China. It's a shining example of how sometimes, the best experiences are found in the most unexpected places.

the lush heat flowing through you this fall
Nestled in the heart of an ancient market street, with its cobblestone paths whispering tales of yore, sits "The Fragrant Emporium," a Chinese spice shop that is nothing short of a sensory odyssey. Upon entering, one is immediately enveloped by an aromatic tapestry, weaving together the exotic scents of star anise, Sichuan peppercorns, and the faint, sweet hint of cinnamon.
The shop's interior, reminiscent of a bygone era, showcases shelves lined with jars and packets of spices, each meticulously labeled. The variety is staggering—rare finds like black cardamom and dried tangerine peels sit alongside more familiar fare like ginger and nutmeg. The shopkeeper, an embodiment of the street's history, is a fountain of knowledge, generously imparting wisdom on the origins and uses of each spice.
What sets this emporium apart is the palpable reverence for tradition. The spices are not just ingredients; they are storytellers, each with a tale rooted in Chinese culinary heritage. Purchasing from here feels less like a transaction and more like inheriting a piece of history.
The quality of the spices is unparalleled. Whether it's the robust heat of the chili flakes or the complex depth of their five-spice blend, each product promises to elevate any dish it graces. The shop also offers bespoke spice blends, tailored to personal tastes and cooking styles, a service that showcases their commitment to customer satisfaction.
The experience is not without its modern touches. The shop has embraced sustainable practices, with many of its spices sourced from organic farms. They also offer online ordering, a nod to the contemporary world, yet the package arrives with a handwritten note, a charming reminder of the personal touch that is the hallmark of this establishment.
In conclusion, "The Fragrant Emporium" is more than just a spice shop. It is a gateway to exploring Chinese culinary traditions, a place where every jar and packet holds not just spices, but stories waiting to be part of new, flavorful adventures. A visit here is a must for anyone looking to immerse themselves in the rich tapestry of Chinese culture and cuisine.

The Tunxi Old Street in Huangshan City is a well-known tourist attraction, and it is lively and rich in commercial atmosphere. Here you can make a two- or three-day tour with Huangshan Tour, which is more casual.
Old Street has many typical Huizhou ancient buildings. The high horse head wall and the historical brick carving wood carving seem to make people pass through the Ming and Qing Dynasties. The shops on both sides of the street are row upon row, and the lanes of different widths are criss-crossed. Some of the featured B&Bs are hidden in it and you can try it out.
Huangshan has many special foods, such as biscuits, squid, tofu, tea and so on. In particular, Mao Tofu also boarded China on the tip of the tongue, attracting a batch of food. The store also displayed the tofu as a facade, which is a lot of eye-catching. Its very pleasant to have a hand-made wine and stroll through the old streets. In addition, there are mountains such as Huangju, pecan and bracken. All kinds of handicrafts that are advancing with the times are also very cute, such as the surrounding area is very popular. In ancient times, Huizhou was a talented person, and the pen and ink papers occupied three places here. The four places are full of strong cultural atmosphere. It is right to feel the ancient style here!
The feelings of day and night are different. The friends who have plenty of time can look at it. It is also a good choice to eat the Huizhou cuisine in the old street.

Huangshan City in Anhui Province is a place with profound historical heritage. Huangshan City was renamed later. It was called Huizhou in the past and is the birthplace of Huizhou culture. It has far-reaching influence.
The urban area of Huangshan City is called Tunxi. The urban area is not big, clean and tidy, and it is very suitable for life. Because the old street of Tunxi is located in the junction of Hengjiang, Yanshui and Xin'anjiang Sanjiang, it is also known as the Qingming Shanghe Map. In 2009, Tunxi Old Street was selected as China's historical and cultural street together with Beijing Guozijian Street and Suzhou Pingjiang Road. It can be said to be Pingjiang Road of Huangshan Mountain. The old streets are concentrated with various food and specialty shops. There are also accommodations nearby, which is the favorite spot for tourists.
as a commercial street, it is very early to start. In the 27th year of Jiajing in the Ming Dynasty (1548), Tunxi was already one of the famous tea markets in China, and now the old streets are also full of tea shops.
The end of the Qing Dynasty, Tunxi Old Street has developed into Qianzhuang, pawn, silver building, medicinal materials, silk cloth, Jingguang Department Store, North and South goods, salt, sugar, Japanese miscellaneous, porcelain, yellow smoke, tin foil, paper, restaurants, restaurants, etc. The industry is relatively complete and prosperous.

When I enter the door, I really like the layout of the room, the comfortable holiday style, in addition to the soft bed that can lie down and watch the TV, and the bathtub that can take a bath to eliminate the fatigue of the day. The hotel not only prepares the fruit snack soft drink softly. Its all right, and its more intimately sent to the warm papaya milk [smile] The so-called all-inclusive all-inclusive, really great, just wear a wristband with a room card, a bar to drink, gym, Japanese bathing, amusement park Cinemas can be used at will, all kinds of fun!

Tunxi Liyang Town is one of the earliest ancient towns in the south of the Yangtze River. It has a history of more than 1,800 years.
This was once the commercial center of Fujian-Zhejiang-Hebei border and the important town of Xin'anjiang. The old saying that the people of the old town of Tongxi passed down from generation to generation included the saying the Ming and Qing Dynasties, the Tang and Song Dynasties. Today's Liyang Old Street has been rebuilt and rebuilt, based on eight well-preserved centuries-old Huizhou dwellings, combined with the elements of the combination of Chinese and Western. It has become a Liyang in Lane that integrates modern culture and Huizhou characteristics.
Liyang In Lane is a blend of old and new buildings, allowing visitors to experience the rich history of the millennium town and the modern times. Today, the Liyang In Lane in the city is just over 1800 years ago, and the lively reproduction of Liyang Town in Tunxi.
Liyang in the lane is a microcosm of Huizhou culture. Huizhou traditional style Huizhou folk house and the old Shikumen style old house, antique bluestone street street, fashionable and modern style neighborhood, Liyang old street sleeping for nearly two thousand years quietly turned into the most in the lane "Liyang in the lane", of course, this is very impressive
