The best thing to do on a cloudy day is to go hiking
This time I went to Tung Lung Island with my friends. We chose to take a boat from San Ka Tsuen, Lei Yue Mun. It was great to be on the boat, and I even walked out to take pictures. After arriving, we set off towards our destination, White Cliff, and the scenery along the way was quite good. The round trip takes about 4 hours or so. After walking, you can go to the store to sit down and eat.

Pamukkale in HK, easy hike to HK’s Cotton Castle
🏝nice sunny day out at the hk’s outlying island, Tung Lung Chau. this little island is on the east of hong kong.
very nice for a weekend getaway. loads of beautiful IG-able scenery, blues and greens, coast line, mountains.. perfect for KOLs. lol
🧗🏽♀️the white cliff is a must go spot, a bit detour and climbing included but worth the walk
⛴ only ferries take you there from the city. you can travel to and from Sai Wan Ho on the island side, or Yau Tong in Kowloon side.
🥾 there’s a hike walk trail round the whole island which takes around 3-4 hours to complete. easy trail good for family with kids and elderly too. not much trees along the way, so bring sunscreen with you.
🍽 restaurants only at the starting point near the pier, so, make sure you eat right after you get off the ferry.
⛺️campsite is super crowded all year round, as it’s a perfect place to enjoy the sunrise, as it’s on the east side of hk. make sure to go earlier for a nice spot.m for the camp.
⚠️💦round island trip around 8km, no shops and restaurants along the road, make sure to pack enough water at shops near the pier. and loads what you need like sandwich, snacks once you got off the ferris, coz there’s no more shops along the whole way.
⚠️🌳less plantation along the trail too, wear hats and sunscreen is a must.

Easy adventure
Tung Lung Chau is an island located near Hong Kong Island. The island is a lovely island where you can hike around the island. The hike is not strenuous, with a mix of trails and stairs. Some people even go there for overnight camping. The striking scenes of the cliffs against the sea are really a sight to be seen. To get there, you take a small ferry from Sai Wan Ho pier, which is a good 10 mins walk from the MTR station of the same name. Be sure to check the ferry times as they aren't frequent and if you miss the last one you'll have to join the campers for the night. There are a small handful of food stalls near the pier on the island, which offer a more local take on HK dishes. Definitely recommend if you're looking for a small field trip.

Tung Lung Island
Located off the tip of clear water bay peninsula, Tung Lung Island is an outlying island without community or notable residential.
We book our ferry tickets online and be there on time for boarding. It’s about 40 minutes ride and Nam Tong ferry pier come into view. Kids are excited along the ride as they saw many fishes and jelly fishes.
We started our hike anti-clockwise. From pier, you’ll pass by some local restaurant/cafes before heading to the clear trail, keep walking until you reach a junction where you could take the right turn to a view point call “Rock Carving”, or keep walking towards left and continue hiking to “Luk Keng Wan”.
Most of the trail is not covered. So beware if you’re hiking in summer or on a hot sunny day. I was sunburnt and had a moment of sunstroke. It took us 1.5 hours walk from pier to Luk Keng Wan, and it was tough hike, even for us. At the junction where we have to decide if we want to continue hiking up to Nam Tong Peak, then Ghost Cave and Spring Rock (a loop back to pier), we decided to turn back.
Turned back, took a short break at the South Garden Store (cafe) before heading clockwise to the pebbles bay just 5-10 mins away from Holiday Store near the Tung Lung Fort. Kids love this place where they could find conch/ sea snails and crabs in between the rocks and pebbles.
I do think Tung Lung Island is overcrowded. There are many campers, it’s unbelievable. The hike is moderately challenging, kids in our group age 4-6, and they’re all frequent hikers. I am confident we could finish the route if the weather ain’t so hot 🥵
Distance: approx 7km
Time: 4-5 hours
Toilet: At the pier
Difficulties: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (under the sun 90% of the time)
Scenic: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

| Tung Lung Chau A super niche hideaway island. There are really many treasure islands in Hong Kong
This time I found a great place for hiking and sea viewing
There is only a ferry service on weekends~
It's not crowded but the scenery is picturesque and the water is super blue🌊
It's really a great place for weekend hiking
/
There are mainly two hiking routes on Tung Lung Chau: the South and North routes🔁
The South route is longer and more challenging
The North route has more concentrated attractions and is easier for hiking
So I chose the North route this time
But there are also spectacular cliff views🍃
Tung Lung Chau also has many historical relics, fortresses, inscriptions,
strange rocks, and a lighthouse on the north side, and you can also camp
It's really worth a visit~

Hong Kong is known for its busy streets and high-rise building, but tucked half an hour away by ferry is Tung Lung Chau. Activities include stargazing at night, a three-hour hike or just a relaxing stroll by the shore. Nature in Hong Kong - Tung Lung Chau 🌿🌿
#visithongkong
Hong Kong is not just a concrete Jungle! Hong Kong is full of hidden gems and you can experience so much nature in such a dense city!
This is Tung Lung Chau. It is a small island located not far away from Yau Tong. To visit Tung Lung Chau, you can take a ferry during weekends from Yau Tong and it will take you to the island! The island is really beautiful! There is a rugged coastline, sandy beaches and also some unique rock formations that you wouldn’t expect to see in Hong Kong! Also, the water is so clean and pristine and even turquoise! The scenery certainly feels like a Southeast Asian country. 🌿🏝️
Good thing about the island is that it is underrated, so there normally won’t be huge crowds! It is also a good camping location! Apparently, there are many people camping on the island. Don’t worry too much about food. There is a small village with some shops and restaurants open during weekends! ❤️

Hiking destination|The white cliffs of Donglong Island resemble snow mountains.
This time, we will introduce a very popular hiking spot that is perfect for taking photos - the White Cliffs of Donglong Island. This place is famous for its all-white stone ground, which looks like a snowy landscape at first glance. Therefore, the White Cliffs are also known as the "Cotton Castle" of the Hong Kong version of Turkey. It has attracted many people to come and take photos, but it is difficult to reach the White Cliffs as it requires climbing rocks. Therefore, it is not recommended for beginners to go there. Everyone should assess their own abilities before attempting to go.
The white cliffs of Donglong Island are said to have been artificially processed, with the white parts actually made of lime powder, in order to guide ships and prevent large ships from hitting the mountain gate shallows. At first glance, it looks like a snow mountain in the polar region, and it is more like the popular Turkish tourist attraction "Cotton Castle", so it has become a very popular check-in hotspot.
If you want to go to Baiya on Donglong Island, you can take a boat from Sanjia Village Pier or Xiwandao Pier to Donglongzhou Public Pier first, and then walk to the right towards Lujing Bay after arriving at Donglongzhou. After passing the radio station, it takes about 10 to 15 minutes to walk to the shore of Baiya. The whole journey is about 5.5 kilometers, but there are few trees along the way, so remember to take sun protection and heatstroke prevention measures!
But please note that if you are a novice hiker, it is not recommended to take on the challenge, as the difficulty of the Donglong Island section is intermediate to advanced, and climbing rocks is required to reach the top of the white cliff. When descending the cliff, you will need to use both hands and feet, making it quite challenging. It is recommended that only those with relevant experience attempt the climb. Before you go, make sure to assess your own abilities!
