#VisitFukuoka Kumamoto Castle, the Symbol of Kumamoto (Kumamoto Castle) 📍Kumamoto Castle is one of Japan's three most famous castles, along with Himeji Castle and Matsumoto Castle. 📍The castle tower is large and tall, offering sweeping views of Kumamoto City. It's a historical landmark in the heart of the city. 📍The castle itself was severely damaged in the 2016 Kumamoto Earthquake, and restoration work was completed in 2021. However, it's far from complete, and it will take a long time to fully restore. We're rooting for a speedy recovery.

🗺️ I chose Kumamoto as my first destination to experience authentic Japanese vibes! Despite not knowing any Japanese, I managed to complete my solo trip successfully 🙂 I planned the itinerary by borrowing all the Kumamoto-related travel guides from my local library and optimizing the route 😊 👉Day 1 🧭Destinations: Kumamoto Castle -> Sakura-no-baba Josaien -> Coffee Arrow -> (Dinner) Yakiniku Brothers -> (Late-night snack) Yatai Mura ✈️Transportation: If your accommodation is near Kumamoto city, taking the airport limousine bus from Kumamoto Airport for 1,000 yen is convenient! 🏖️Recommended Spot: 'Yatai Mura' is a street filled with food stalls—an exciting experience! 🥘Food Recommendation: 'Coffee Arrow' is run by a dedicated elderly gentleman who brews coffee with great craftsmanship. The atmosphere is wonderful, and the owner is very kind! 🏠Accommodation: 1. The Grids Premium Hotel Kumamoto 👉Day 2 (Fukuoka Day Trip) 🧭Destinations: Motsunabe Tashu -> Yodobashi Camera -> LaLaport -> Sasaguri Town Summer Fireworks -> Ichiran Ramen ✈️Transportation: Kumamoto -> Fukuoka (Bus fare was around 2,500 yen!) In Fukuoka, having a Suica card is handy, but I paid in cash since it was a day trip 🙂 🏖️Recommended Spot: You might catch a performance on the basement floor of Yodobashi Camera if you're lucky! 🥘Food Recommendation: At 'Motsunabe Tashu,' you can choose between noodles or rice later—definitely go for rice! It's absolutely delicious 🥰 🏠Accommodation: Stayed at 'The Grids Premium Hotel Kumamoto' for the entire 4 nights and 5 days. However, for seasoned travelers, I wouldn't necessarily recommend staying in just one place! 👉Day 3 🧭Destinations: (Shopping) Don Quijote, Mikuniya -> (Lunch) Korantei -> (Shopping) Amu Plaza ✈️Transportation: Tram (⚠️ Board from the back and exit from the front!) 🏖️Recommended Spot: Korantei 🥘Food Recommendation: At 'Korantei,' I highly recommend trying Taipien! It's a Kumamoto-style wonton dish that's incredibly tasty 🤩 🏠Accommodation: 1. The Grids Premium Hotel Kumamoto 👉Day 4 🧭Destinations: (Breakfast) Matsuyashin -> Katsuretsutei -> Nagasaki Jiro -> Suizenji Jojuen -> Natsume Soseki's Birthplace -> Luffy Statue -> Ajisen Ramen -> Purikura -> Kumamoto City Hall Observation Deck -> Nanaseki Cafe ✈️Transportation: Tram 🏖️Recommended Spot: 'Suizenji Jojuen' is a must-visit! It's a stunning Japanese-style garden. 🥘Food Recommendation: At 'Katsuretsutei,' I recommend the lunch set menu. 'Ajisen Ramen' is also famous for its black garlic ramen—highly recommended 😀 🏠Accommodation: 1. The Grids Premium Hotel Kumamoto 👉Day 5 Since this was the day to wrap up my Kumamoto trip and return to Korea, I didn't plan anything specific 😙 💡Travel Tips: Budget around 100,000 won per day for a smooth trip! Studying a bit of Japanese beforehand will make your trip even more enjoyable 😄 The weather forecast initially predicted rain for all five days, but it only rained once briefly! The weather was fantastic and felt much cooler than Korea. Fukuoka is just two hours away, making it perfect for a day trip!

I recently visited Kumamoto, and I was pleasantly surprised by how delightful and fulfilling the city turned out to be. If you're looking for a high-satisfaction trip even with a short itinerary, I highly recommend this travel course! First, I stayed at HOTEL THE 7 Kumamoto, which is conveniently located about a 10-minute walk from the city center. Major attractions like Kumamoto Castle and Shinshigai Shopping Street are easily accessible on foot, and there's a city tram stop right in front of the hotel, making public transportation very convenient. Although the rooms don't have Wi-Fi, the hotel provides free pocket Wi-Fi at check-in, which was incredibly useful during my trip. The signal was stable, and the device was easy to use, so I had no worries about internet access while traveling. Another highlight of this hotel is its **large public bath (artificial hot spring)**, perfect for relaxing after a day of sightseeing. While the rooms don't have private bathrooms, the spacious and clean public bath was actually a better option. The front desk staff were friendly, and the luggage storage service made it easy to explore the city before and after check-in. When it comes to food, Kumamoto is a paradise for food lovers. My top recommendation is the tonkatsu specialty restaurant **‘Katsuretsutei Shinshigai Main Branch’**. Their tonkatsu made with Kumamoto black pork (Kurobuta) is incredibly famous. The crispy exterior and juicy, tender interior are simply divine. The thick, soft pork bursts with flavor in every bite, and the rich sauce complements it perfectly. Rice, miso soup, and cabbage are refillable, so you can enjoy a hearty meal. The restaurant's spacious and clean interior makes it suitable for solo diners as well as families. The only downside is that it's quite popular, so there might be a wait during lunch and dinner hours. However, if you go right when it opens, you can avoid the queue. Located in the central shopping area, it's a convenient stop during your sightseeing. During your trip, make sure to visit Kumamoto Castle and the nearby Sakuranobaba Josaien. Exploring the restored castle interior is fascinating, and Josaien is great for strolling around, with its traditional food stalls and souvenir shops. The nighttime illumination adds a magical touch to the atmosphere. Lastly, I recommend taking a leisurely evening walk through Kumamoto's city center. Along Hanabata Street, you'll find plenty of cafes, bars, and casual eateries, perfect for winding down your day. Since the hotel is nearby, you can safely and conveniently return even late at night. --- A short but fulfilling trip to Kumamoto, complete with a delicious tonkatsu meal and relaxing hot spring experience, will surely leave you with wonderful memories. Whether you're traveling solo, with friends, or family, this charming city is a great choice for a stress-free Japanese small-town adventure. Hotel Blossom Kumamoto is a modern hotel located in the heart of Kumamoto City, offering comfortable accommodations and attentive service. ✨Hotel Highlights - Convenient Location: The hotel is just a right turn from Kumamoto Station and situated above AMU Plaza, making it extremely accessible. AMU Plaza features various shops and restaurants; we opted for conveyor belt sushi that day, and it was quite delicious. Kumamoto Station also offers several bus routes directly to Kumamoto Castle. - Modern Rooms: The rooms are stylishly designed with separate wet and dry areas, spacious layouts, and a comfortable living environment. - Onsen Facilities: The hotel provides onsen facilities, allowing me to relax my tired body. - Excellent Service: The staff are incredibly warm and hospitable, with different personnel assisting with check-in and helping to transport luggage to the elevator area, showcasing meticulous care.

I recently traveled to Kumamoto 🙋♀️ When it comes to Kumamoto, horse meat is a must-try, and this restaurant is so famous that you can't go wrong visiting it❣️ Even though it was a weekday, the restaurant was bustling with customers☺️ ▶︎ Sugano-ya Horse Grilled Course…6,500 yen ・Small dish (Horse marrow with ume and hijiki) ・Yukhoe salad ・Four types of local appetizers ・Four types of horse sashimi ・Simmered dish (Horse tendon stew) ・Fried dish (Almost all-meat cutlet) ・Four types of grilled horse meat ・Rice ・Soup ・Dessert Additional items for the course: ・Liver sashimi…950 yen ・Upgrade rice to lean meat sushi…800 yen A la carte additions: ・Salted tongue ・Premium short rib ・Fried offal The course is highly recommended as it allows you to try a variety of dishes in small portions. If you're unsure, go for the course and add any extra dishes that catch your eye. The appetizers included Kumamoto specialties like karashi renkon and hitomoji guruguru, which were delightful to sample in small portions. The four types of horse sashimi were: ・Marbled ・Lean meat ・Koune (horse mane fat) ・Futae (rare cut) It was a treat to enjoy rare cuts, but I personally loved the lean meat the most♪ The four types of grilled horse meat were: ・Harami (skirt steak) ・Karubi (short rib) ・Binta (cheek meat) ・Filet Each cut was incredibly tender and delicious♡ The liver sashimi can be ordered separately, but if you order the course, you can add it at a discounted price, which I highly recommend. Also, the fried offal we added as an a la carte item was absolutely delicious and paired perfectly with drinks. Based on local recommendations, I happened to pass by Dragon Cafe and decided to give it a try! The entrance might be a bit tricky to find, but on the other hand, it feels like a hidden gem, which is great. I ordered a double scoop of caramel and strawberry ice cream. The caramel was incredibly rich! Its color resembled miso, and it turned out to be even more delicious and intense than I had imagined. The spices were perfectly balanced and tasted amazing! If you're feeling tired from walking around Kumamoto City, why not stop by Dragon Cafe for a refreshing ice cream treat?

Kumamoto Castle, with a history of 400 years, is still undergoing restoration efforts after being affected by the 2016 Kumamoto earthquake. 💞Why we recommend it: Listed as one of Japan's three great castles, "Kumamoto Castle" holds immense historical value! A review of my trip to Kumamoto, the hometown of the One Piece creator! I discovered that while there are One Piece statues scattered around, it's nearly impossible to visit them all without renting a car. So, I only managed to take photos of the statues of Luffy, Chopper, Zoro, and Usopp, which are closer to the city center. It was a great experience to see the statues of my favorite anime characters in person. If you're traveling alone, I recommend checking out a bar called 'Noz' on Google Maps. It's a great spot to hang out with young Japanese locals, have fun, and enjoy unlimited drinks at a very affordable price!

Hidden Gem in Kyushu, an hour away from Fukuoka! Easily accessible via Shinkansen or an affordable 2hr bus ride from Fukuoka Airport. Kumamoto is a highly walkable city steep in history, culture and cuisine. Kumamoto Castle is often regarded as the top 3 castle in Japan. While the earthquake has inflicted substantial damage to it, a long and careful restoration plan is in progress to restore it. Visiting the castle now is still possible and the experience will be markedly different as you admire the restored castle while seeing it first hand the restoration works that’s ongoing around the castle compound. Make sure to earmark your evening of the 4th Saturday of each month to visit the Shirakawa Yoichi (Night Bazaar along the banks of Shirakawa). Lucky to bump into this bazaar without prior planning and totally enjoyed the matsuri vibes of the bazaar. The food options were highly international and traditional as well. Went during Sakura period and some of the stalls are just right below the Sakura tree. Great place to picnic too. Akagumi Ramen is a real treat, especially the miso braised offals. Should time allow, head to Aso region and visit the Aso Jinja, as well as the Monzenmachi Shopping Street right next to the shrine. Be sure to try the Katana Steam Bun and Beef Menchi that is absolutely delish. Flying out of Kumamoto is equally convenient if you are connecting/returning to a city that serves this route. Highly recommended to visit and spend 3 or 4 days in this city. #April Good Places 2025 Built in the early Edo period and inspired by the 53rd Tokaido, Kumamoto City’s traditional Japanese tour-style garden features pools of springs, fake mountains and delicate stone paths. "Izumi Shrine", "Inawa Shrine", and "Mizumaeji Shrine" are also historic gardens, which are lush greenery with the neatness and delicacy common in Japanese gardens. The most spiritual atmosphere in the garden is the “Izumi Shrine”, where as usual to be quiet and connected with the shrine’s energy. There is a saying in Japanese that is ~ Ah Hum's breath, which means that the two parties cooperate seamlessly and have a tacit understanding. The "ah" (あうん) inside refers to the 狛犬 whose mouth opens and closes in front of the shrine and temple. Actually, he doesn't look evil, he's very cute. There are many souvenir shops outside the door. The prices are not expensive. It is worth a visit.

A journey to visit the 'ONE PIECE' statues scattered throughout Kumamoto Prefecture was a dream-like experience where you could truly feel the world of the series. These statues were installed as part of the reconstruction support after the Kumamoto earthquake, with each character placed in different locations across Kumamoto, blending their charm with the unique features of each region. The first stop was the statue of Luffy at the Kumamoto Prefectural Office. His powerful pose with a raised fist symbolized 'hope for reconstruction,' and his presence was overwhelming. It was heartwarming to see locals taking commemorative photos in front of the statue, feeling Luffy's support for Kumamoto's recovery. Next, we visited the statues of Zoro, Sanji, and Nami. Zoro is located in Ozu Town, Sanji in Mashiki Town, and Nami in Nishihara Village. Each character's individuality harmonized beautifully with the atmosphere of their respective locations. Sanji's statue, in particular, was placed in a food-related area, perfectly matching his love for cooking. It was also an opportunity to learn about the characteristics of each region, making it an enjoyable sightseeing experience. Additionally, Chopper's statue is located within a zoo and botanical garden, where it was delightful to see children happily taking photos. The statues of other crew members like Franky, Usopp, and Robin were also crafted with poses and expressions that showcased their personalities, making it an exciting experience even for non-fans. This statue tour, where you can enjoy the world of 'ONE PIECE' along with Kumamoto's rich nature and cityscape, is a special experience not only for fans of the series but for many people.
