At the southern end of Via Maria Theresa, stands a majestic Roman-style triumphal arch. It was built by Queen Maria Theresia in 1765 to celebrate the wedding of her son Leopold and Princess Maria Ludovica of Spain. The prince was later crowned Emperor Leopold II. The two marble reliefs on the Arc de Triomphe were built in 1774 and record the wedding and funeral events of the Habsburg dynasty. The relief at the southern end depicts the festive wedding of Crown Prince Leopold, while the relief at the northern end shows the tragic funeral where Franz, the husband of Empress Maria Theresia, died violently. die.
