.
㊙ Professional trekking knowledge
✅ Wear comfortable clothes, preferably well-fitting, not too loose or too tight, and easy to put on and take off when hot or cold. Long hair should be tied up to avoid obstructing vision.
✅ Wear a pair of suitable sports shoes; the shoelaces should be tight but not painful, so your toes won't hurt after long walks.
✅ Protect your knees to avoid patellar injuries and meniscus wear. A small tip is to keep your knees relaxed and slightly bent when walking downhill, not straight.
✅ Take big but slow steps when going uphill, using an outward 8-shaped gait to avoid putting too much pressure on a single knee, and keep your weight on your hips.
✅ Maintain steady breathing and heart rate, don't rush, and keep a stable pace.
.
🌸 Some small tips
✔️ Don't bring a suitcase, or you'll immediately experience a live version of a transformation show
✔️ Altitude sickness is not scary, keep a relaxed mindset, don't wash your hair or take a bath as soon as you reach the plateau, drink plenty of water, eat easily digestible foods rich in vitamin C, and avoid overeating
✔️ Do targeted leg training half a month before departure
✔️ Increase crisis awareness, refuse to act alone, life comes first!
✔️ Give way to mules on the road, they won't give way to you and might squeeze you
✔️ Mushrooms grow abundantly in the rainy season, with many varieties and bright colors, but they are not edible

Detailed One-Day Itinerary for Tiger Leaping Gorge
The previous article provided a two-day guide for Tiger Leaping Gorge, but some of you may not have enough time and only plan to spend one day, or you may not have the physical stamina but still want to take some cool photos. Then this article is for you—a relaxed one-day hiking guide to Tiger Leaping Gorge. Without further ado, let's look at the route (map at the end). This route is more suitable for self-driving:
1. Leave Lijiang by car in the morning and head to 'Meet Halfway' at Tiger Leaping Gorge. The drive takes about 2 hours and parking is free, but the mountain roads are quite narrow, and you may need to reverse into the parking lot at the entrance.
2. After parking, you can walk back a bit along the high line to take photos and check in. There's no need to go too far; there are two bends that are particularly photogenic.
3. After checking in, return to the parking spot and continue walking down towards the halfway direction to take more photos.
4. Coming out from halfway, continue walking forward to check in at the small waterfall.
5. This is basically the end of the check-in spots. Head back to the car pick-up point and go to Teacher Zhang's.
6. Arrive at Teacher Zhang's Inn and take Teacher Zhang's trail down to the middle of Tiger Leaping Gorge to check in!
7. The return trip uphill is a bit challenging. If you feel energetic, you can return the same way. If you're not afraid of heights, you can climb the 168 steps of the Brave Man's Ladder for a more fun experience!
Tips: Although this route doesn't involve much hiking, the schedule is quite tight.
Time arrangement: It is recommended to depart at 8:30 am, have lunch at halfway around noon, and return to Lijiang before evening.
Equipment recommendations: Sun protection!!! Focus on sun protection, followed by looking good. Wear whatever looks best because the route is not very challenging. Just consider sun protection, including a hat, sunglasses, a windbreaker, an outdoor backpack, and trekking poles.

The Traveling Epicure
Romantically lost in Turkey - Baishuitai
The formation of Baishuitai is attributed to the sedimentation of groundwater rich in calcium carbonate on the surface over the years. The snow-like white, the water-like flow, combined together, gave birth to the poetically named 'Baishuitai'. It is located in the hidden mountains in the south of Lijiang, Yunnan. As one of the largest karst landscapes in China, it seems to be a 'living fossil' inlaid by nature in the world.
Scenic Area: Baishuitai Ticket: 30/person
Transportation:
At present, there is no direct bus to Baishuitai in Lijiang, only self-driving or chartered car, carpooling
Recommended tour route:
Lijiang Tiger Leaping Gorge Baishuitai → Lijiang (day trip)
Lijiang Tiger Leaping Gorge Baishuitai → Shangri-La (you can also go the other way)
Other tips:
√There is a highway from Lijiang to Tiger Leaping Gorge. After playing in Tiger Leaping Gorge, take the Shangri-La East Ring Line to Baishuitai. The road condition is good, just pay attention to the falling rocks on the mountain side, small cars are no problem
√The road from Baishuitai to Shangri-La is still the East Ring Line, which is along the mountain ditch. Except for more bends, the whole journey is a cement road and the road condition is very good
There are buses from Lijiang Bus Station to Tiger Leaping Gorge Scenic Area, 30/person
√Seeing that Lijiang is crowded recently, there are much fewer people in Shangri-La, and Shangri-La in winter is also super beautiful!

Tiger leaping gorge
Tiger leaping gorge is a amazing place to see and go. In between Lijiang and Shangri-La about 1.5hra drive, I got a tour as couldn't drive as a tourist and a taxi there is a bit much. The river is strong and powerful through this area making for a a spectacular sight, the place is busy with tourists but you have enough space to take a photo or videos of the river. There is a lot of steps down and back up I if you can't handle it, you can pay extra to use the escalator which I found strange to pay extra for, I walked it up, overall 1.5hrs there is enough but I could watch it all day. Would be number 1 on the list of places to visit in Yunnan .#yunnan

A Peaceful Jaunt Through Lijiang 🙏
If you are travelling to Yunnan then it’s likely that Lijiang is on your list. A common combination is Kunming to Dali and then on to Lijiang where you will find a quiet mountain town that provides a welcoming and relaxed atmosphere, perfect for getting away from the hustle and bustle and beginning many day treks, including Tiger Leaping Gorge.
There was a surprising amount of trendy little hostels and boutique hotels to choose from in the town and plenty of restaurants.
After lunch or dinner, make sure to take a walk around all the beautiful little side streets and alleys and stop off at one of the quirky little cafes for a drink.
I had been told that this place gets really busy however i experienced the complete opposite. It was quiet and amazing! Much more chilled than the busy and bustling streets of Dali! Maybe i just got lucky 🤷♂️

🐅 Trek to Tiger Leaping Gorge 🐅
#newyearadventure
Tiger Leaping Gorge in Yunnan is a spectacular piece of nature. Sweeping cliff edges, insanely powerful water flow amongst a backdrop of huge mountains really is a sight to behold.
You can choose to go directly there by bus or you can do a mammoth 2 day trek, stopping for the night around the half way point (an incredible hotel with views you can only dream of!). The trek itself is pretty tough and depending where you start, can take up to 12 hours so leave with plenty of time to get there for sunset.
Getting down to the gorge is also pretty tough on the body but there is an insanely cool ladder that you can climb if you want to add a bit more adventure to your visit!
The trek was one of my Yunnan highlights and i’d recommend it to anyone but don’t underestimate it, its not an easy one! Good luck! 🤜🤛

Must hike
A place most expats in China have probably been to at some point. A truly breathtaking spot which is actually quite easily accessible.
This is a hike with astonishing nature, gorgeous views and amazing scenery. It's not a particularly challenging hike either and the route is usually split over two days to make it even easier. The stay over point is aptly named 'Halfway'. If you're lucky and the sky is clear you can get amazing night sky views.
Lots of animals roam around here. And the sweeping hills are awe inspiring. Before you start hiking you can check out the raging river if wish but expect tons of people.
Bring cash as there's a chance you'll lose your phone signal. And a waterproof coat as the weather can turn quickly

TIGER LEAPING GORGE-OUS
How to get there: Foreigners can't book their bus tickets in apps, it's advised to go to Lijiang Bus Ticket Office and book your ticket a day before which cost 75 yuan. There is only one bus at 9:30am everyday.
It takes about 2hrs to get at Tiger leaping gorge ticket purchase office where the driver will drop you off and you can buy your tickets for 45 yuan. Get back in the bus and a few minutes some guy will check your tickets.
If you are planning to get to Tina's the next day(this is a guest house where you can buy tickets back to Lijiang or to Shangri-La) you can tell the driver to drop your bags there.
Drop off at Qiaotou where you can get a car up the hill to NaxiWaGe where the upper trekking route begins, from here on just follow the signs.
It took me about 6hrs to get to halfway on the first day.

Lijiang Ancient Town- A step back in time.
Getting There -
Lijiang ancient town is located roughly 35-40 minutes from Lijiang airport by taxi.
Attractions -
For me, the best thing to do during the day is explore. I enjoyed getting lost and taking photos of the old town. To the north is Shuhe and Baisha ancient towns, which are less touristy and a little quieter. Around the towns are plenty of things to do, such as mountain top shows, the tiger leaping gorge, hiking and a few museums.
Hotels -
There are hotels to suit all budgets. There's an Intercontinental on the edge of town for luxury, or you can spend as little as 50rmb per night for a perfectly comfortable room.
Food & Restaurants -
If you love hot pot, you'll love the selection. There's also a wide variety of street food as well as buffet style restaurants.
Shopping -
If it's silver or leather you want, you'll be spoiled for choice. There are also many shops selling traditional Naxi clothes

Best Hike in China 👀🇨🇳 Tiger Leaping
Myself and a group of friends competed the Tiger Leaping Gorge hike in July 2022. We started early 6am with a taxi from Lijiang to the start of the walk. From there we walk for about 5hrs to our hotel for the night. The Tea-horse Guesthouse, I’d highly recommend staying here the views were incredible and the food was delicious. At the time the hotel also had access to a local swimming pool and is exactly what we needed after a day of walking. The following day we completed the walk in about 4hrs, the got the bus from Tina’s Guesthouse to Shangri-la. it’s a must do if your in China. #2023travelwish #china

Eye of The Tiger!
Tiger Leaping Gorge was WILD! Hands down one of my favorite sites in China! The gorge is breathtaking and the surroundings were unbelievable! There’s no way to describe the magnitude of it. If you’re driving into the park (which is what we did), rather than taking the hiking trip, it can be done as an afternoon journey. There’s no need to buy bus tickets unless you want to go further up the mountain. SO worth the drive! I’ll never forget it.

Winter Blue at Tiger Leaping Gorge
#wintergetaway #china #tigerleapinggorge
You’ve probably seen the pictures of Tiger Leaping Gorge. Roaring brown rapids crashing through the valley and a similar roaring sound coming from the hoards of tourists.
Well, if you want a more peaceful and yet, in my opinion, a similarly stunning view, go during Winter season. During this time, the water is lower but still ferocious, and instead of the brown silt, the water is a cool and clear blue running off from MeiLi snow mountain.

If you are riding a car from Li Jiang to Shangrila- this park/gorge is in between.
Tiger Leaping Gorges is a place where you can see strong current / waterfalls all year round.
Note that to get the best view of the gorges, you need to walk down around 200-250 steps for the actual feel of the strong water current.
Not that you will really see tiger around, it’s just belief that previously there are tigers around the area.

Getting There - Take a taxi from Lijiang or take a bus
Attractions - Tiger Leaping Gorge
Hotels - The nearest hotel is in Lijiang
Food & Restaurants - Small food stalls at the entrance of tiger leaping gorge for snacks or tea
Shopping - not much for shopping
This place is really thrilling and must visit during your Yunnan trip. There are 2 options to reach the river side 1. you can buy tickets to the elevator (up/down) 2. you can walk down the staircase to the photo point at this spot
I recommend walking down the staircase as you can take more pictures during the decent and in case you cant walk steep the elevator is available.

Tiger Leaping Gorge
Tiger Leaping gorge hiking tour is definitely a must when you are visiting a Yunnan province. It s definitely both mentally and physically challenging, depending on time you have to spend hiking. Actual Tiger leaping Gorge is a bit crowded, so if you want to enjoy hiking fully, you might consider to visit that first, than to go to the mountain. There s 2 path for hiking. Upper and middle tracking route. We did middle one, due to lack of time. We came to Naxi family Guesthouse by car, from there we climbed to the top of 28 bends, definitely most challenging part of the hike, and we came all the way back to Halfway guesthouse from where we organized a car to drop us back to the Qiaotou town. Tea horse guesthouse is definitely a must stay place, fat least for a beer or short break, but i would definitely recommend you to stay there over the night. Especially if you choose to hike couple of days, since full track is long about 22km. You have stunning view on Jade snow mountain. They seem unreal. So it’s definitely a recommendation to do this hike and to enjoy beautiful nature that Yunnan can provide. #gorgeousyunnan #jademountain #hiking #tigerleapinggorge #habasnowmountain #naxi

Tiger 🐅 Leaps the Gorge
finally made it to the Tigers 🐯 Leaping Gorge by Van from Lijiang. Some passengers got off at a stop in the rain to hike the 6 hours of trails to see more of the mountains and Tiger Gorge itself. For those traveling with kids or unable to hike the trails the van ride takes you to two separate stops to enjoy the views of mountains and gushing strong currents of gorge water. it’s amazing to Finally see the Tigers 🐅 Leaping Gotge after being in China for several years. it was raining at the first stop but cleared up at the second scenic viewing spot. then we got to the Famous Tina’s hostel to stay for one night and walk some trails.

Day trips from Lijiang to the gorge are perfect to experience the gorge and the wild rapids. However, to full experience the gorge hiking the high trail is a must. The hike can be done in a single day but is best enjoyed over 2 - 3 days staying in local guesthouses along the trail. The trail starts in Qiaotou and is easy to spot with the trail head by the local school. When hiking the gorge, most hikers view Tina's Guesthouse as the end of their hike but it isn't. Make sure you continue to the Lower Gorge a few kilometres along the road.
Food - Local food is available at different points along the trail and is a must to conquer the trail. The Naxi Family Guesthouse is a perfect starting point and will fuel you up for the switchbacks ahead.
Accommodation:
Beginning of the hike: Naxi Family Guesthouse
Middle Gorge: Halfway Guesthouse
End of the hike: Sean's Guesthouse

Tiger leaping gorge
Tiger Leaping Gorge is one of the deepest gorges in the world, making it one of the top 10 world famous hiking trails. Jade Dragon Snow Mountain and Haba Snow Mountain stand on each side, offering beautiful and diverse landscapes. It is divided into three parts: Upper Gorge, Middle Gorge and Lower Gorge. Tiger Leaping Gorge is located between the 5596 meters Jade Dragon Snow Mountain (Yulong Snow Mountain) to the south and 5396 meters Haba Snow Mountain (Haba Xueshan) to the north. Legend says that in order to escape from a hunter, a tiger jumped across the river at the narrowest point, hence named Tiger Leaping Gorge and the stone called Tiger Leaping Rock. No matter you visit Upper Tiger Leaping Gorge or Middle Tiger Leaping Gorge, you can catch the best sight of the two snow mountains. #skiadventure #staycation #themepark #infinitypool

Tiger Leaping Gorge is honestly one of the best hikes I’ve been on! We went during the Summer so it was really hot during the day, however got a bit cooler after sunset. Biggest advice is to just follow the one path and there are signs to guide you along the way. You’ll bump into many animals roaming freely on the mountains🐄🐴🐐
There are many guesthouses along the way so you’ll never get thirsty or die of hunger! After about 2 hours you’ll stop at Naxi Family Guesthouse & fuel your energy with some noodles or rice dishes. Another hour you’ll find the famous 28 bends (literally so many bends😂) -mind the horse poo 😌. Other places recommended to eat is Tea-horse Guesthouse & the next day of the hike, Tina’s Guesthouse (you can book a bus here to Lijiang or Shangri-La).
Altogether it took us about 8 hours to reach Halfway Guesthouse on the first day, including all the stops for the breathtaking views🙌🏽 I highly recommend you book a night at Halfway, and on a clear night you can see the stars ✨
You will never go wrong with Tiger Leaping Gorge⛰

Tiger Leaping Gorge
Second time doing Tiger Leaping Gorge, this time in winter rather than summer! Well worth a visit to hike for a day or two!
We started in Lijiang and got driven to close to the starting point of the hike - Jenny's guesthouse organised it all for us, I would highly recommend staying there as she is so sweet and so willing to help every step of the way!
The hike itself is fairly straightforward, just follow the red arrows along and you will come across various guesthouses! We stayed in the halfway house! Beautiful views but absolutely freezing in January. The hike itself varies from quite easy to difficult so be warned some sections are challenging.
overall a must do in China!
