Tianshui Spicy Hot Pot Trip ∣ Tianshui Ancient City! It's so big, I got a bit confused while wandering around
👍 Most Recommended: How can you miss Tianshui Ancient City when visiting Tianshui! Maybe it's because I don't have a strong sense of direction, but I wandered around in a daze. Fortunately, I was traveling alone, so I could go wherever I wanted. I followed my instincts and wandered through the streets and alleys. When I got tired, I took a break, and when I got thirsty, I had some sweet fermented milk tea. There was food everywhere, so I didn't go hungry. Finally, I got a bit of a sense of direction! Let me organize it for everyone!
❤ Recommended Reason: Tianshui Ancient City, also known as Tianshui Xiguan Ancient City, is one of the largest and best-preserved ancient residential complexes from the Ming and Qing dynasties in the western region. The area contains numerous architectural relics from the Ming and Qing dynasties, including 55 cultural preservation courtyards. The ancient city, with its 'One Street, Ten Alleys' and 'Three Squares, Eight Courtyards,' is a cultural living space with a strong Qin dynasty atmosphere. It's quite interesting to stroll through it.
⛱️ Must-Visit Attractions:
🚩 1. 'One Street, Ten Alleys' and 'Three Squares, Eight Courtyards' - a comprehensive area for eating, living, shopping, entertainment, and sightseeing. The ancient alleys of the city are like a meticulously designed maze, with various types of shops, some with an ancient charm and others with modern creativity, full of surprises and unexpected delights. You can also see several performances while wandering around, making it very lively.
🚩 2. Qihan Tower, City Wall Ruins, Sanxin Alley Square, Tianshui Celebrity Corridor, Rong's Fuxin Tianshui Office, Han General's Mansion, etc., are all worth a visit.
🚩 3. The night view is beautiful. Wandering around Tianshui Ancient City at night is an absolutely full experience.
🚩 4. Tianshui 'Little Potala Palace,' a cluster of red and white houses built on the northern hillside. You can see it from the road between the west gate of the ancient city and the east gate of Fuxi City. It has a 'Little Potala Palace' style from a distance, and it's even more charming when the lights are on at night.
🚩 5. You can visit Tianshui Ancient City and Fuxi Temple on the same day, as they are separated by just one street.
🚩 6. The Qinzou Grand Theater has a dance drama 'One Stroke Opens the Sky' worth watching.
📍 Detailed Address: About 90 meters northwest of the intersection of Jiefang Road and Sanxin Alley, Qinzhou District, Tianshui City.
🍜 Food Guide:
1. Siheyuan Spicy Hot Pot (Haiying, Eden, Yuannv, etc.), too many people! I personally recommend a place called Yuanjie Spicy Hot Pot (near the east gate of Fuxi City), the important thing is that you don't have to queue, and the taste is good!
2. Yusheng Alley Morning Market has guagua, ranran, noodles, apricot tea, lard box, and Tianshui Eight Bowls, sour soup noodles, and of course, don't forget to have a cup of sweet fermented milk tea! Radish juice is also good!
🏨 Accommodation Guide: There are many hotels around the ancient city, accommodation is very convenient, and transportation is convenient. You can choose to stay in the ancient city, the hotel environment is good, clean, tidy, comfortable, and reasonably priced.
🚄 Transportation Guide: After arriving at Tianshui South Station by high-speed rail, transfer to bus route 1/5 or the spicy hot pot special line to reach the ancient city directly. In the city, you can take bus routes 21/22/84/88.
🎫 Tickets: Free
🕙 Opening Hours: All day
⏳ Visiting Time: 2-3 hours
💗 Other Tips:
1. The temperature drops a bit at night in Tianshui, so bring an extra jacket;
2. There are many kinds of food, try them all;
3. There are many streets and alleys, easy to get confused. I have experienced this deeply, so just go with the flow and follow your heart. But it's best to wear a pair of comfortable shoes so you won't get tired walking around!

Roaming the ancient city, heading to Tianshui Malatang
⛰️Scenic Spot Introduction
A citywalk themed around Tianshui Malatang, the ancient city of Tianshui is not far from Malatang Street. It is worth taking a stroll through this well-preserved residential complex from the Ming and Qing dynasties, which is one of the largest in the northwest region. The ancient city is not very large, and the attractions are free. There are many restaurants and tea houses, some of which are quite unique and thoughtfully decorated. There are not many people, making it comfortable for a leisurely walk and a short rest.
🚗Transportation Information
Fuxi Temple is within walking distance to the ancient city, and there are buses near Tianshui Railway Station that can take you directly there. However, the distance is relatively far, so if you are short on time, you might consider taking a taxi.
🍜Food Recommendations
From the ancient city, it takes about 15 minutes on foot to reach the popular Malatang Street (which is actually just a small alley). The two popular stores, Ha Haiying Malatang and Kaiyuan Malatang, usually require about an hour of waiting even at around 3 PM. Each skewer, whether meat or vegetable, costs one yuan. The traditional Malatang cooking method is used, followed by mixing with seasonings. The soul of the dish is the Gangu chili used here, which is fragrant but not spicy. However, to be honest, the taste is quite average. The chili has a somewhat bitter aftertaste, and the overall feeling is quite oily. But since Tianshui Malatang is so popular, you have to try it at least once.

Tianshui Ancient City
Tianshui Ancient City, also known as Tianshui Xiguan Ancient City, is located in the Xiguan area of Qinzhou District, Tianshui, Gansu, west of the Fuxi Temple, north of Chengji Avenue, and south of Jiefang Road. The Xiguan area is a region in Tianshui City with a cluster of ancient residential buildings that have a long history, preserving relatively complete architectural structures from the Ming and Qing dynasties as well as the Republic of China period. The Sanxin Lane area is constructed according to the layout of 'one street and ten alleys' and 'three squares and eight courtyards', integrating dining, accommodation, shopping, entertainment, and tourism, making it a great place for sightseeing strolls and leisurely fun, especially suitable for visiting in the early evening of summer.
📍Detailed address: About 100 meters northeast of the intersection of Jiefang Road and Nandianzi Alley in Qinzhou District, Tianshui City (north side of Zhao's Tianshui Hall)

Why not enjoy a bowl of spicy hot pot in the ancient city of Tianshui
🍲 A bowl of spicy hot pot can ignite the passion of a city. Having visited Tianshui twice, I didn't even know there was an ancient city within. This time, under the spell of Tianshui's spicy hot pot, I encountered the ancient city.
🍭 First impression: This is a national 3A-level tourist attraction, one of the largest and best-preserved residential courtyard groups from the Ming and Qing dynasties in the northwest region.
👉 Critique: Tianshui is the birthplace of Fuxi, the cultural progenitor, known as 'the Hometown of Emperor Fuxi.' Logically, such a city and such an ancient city should be brimming with historical flavor. However, the ancient city of Tianshui looks completely like a newly created entity, sharing the homogenization, clichés, and templated features common to many so-called ancient cities and towns in China. To truly experience the unique history, culture, and scenery of this city, it's quite difficult, at least in the ancient city of Tianshui.
📸 Recommended photo spots:
Although the ancient city is no longer ancient, I still want to recommend a few super photogenic check-in spots.
1️⃣ On the high-rise buildings around the outskirts of the ancient city. Since drones are banned within the ancient city of Tianshui, we chose a high-rise hotel outside the city, which offers a perfect view of the entire ancient city and the cityscape of Tianshui.
2️⃣ On the city tower of the ancient city. The city towers of Tianshui's ancient city are built on higher foundations than the buildings inside the city, so you can easily overlook the cityscape from both the ancient city and the city walls, with the night view being particularly enchanting.
3️⃣ In front of Qihan Tower. Qihan Tower was originally located on the west gate of the ancient city in the west, a two-story wooden building with double eaves and a hip-and-gable roof. In recent years, a three-eaved pavilion roof-style ancient building has been reconstructed. The interior and exterior are decorated with golden dragons and colorful paintings, offering a dazzling view from afar. Moreover, its location is excellent, facing Fuxi City, and the street it overlooks is the viewing spot for Tianshui's newly popular check-in place, the 'Little Potala Palace.'
🎫 Ticket: Free admission.
📍 Address: Located on Huayan Street in the original ancient city in Qinzhou District, the attractions within Qinzhou District are relatively concentrated, so it is recommended to walk there for a visit. Of course, since it is a newly built ancient city, there is even an underground parking lot within the city, so parking is not a problem at all.
🍱 Nearby food: Yuan Nv spicy hot pot on Jiefang Road, Weimin spicy hot pot in Shangyi Alley, and Heqin spicy hot pot in Gonghe Alley are all near the ancient city. Whether you are willing to queue or not is up to personal preference.

Budget Travel Diary | Guide to Visiting Tianshui
YUQUAN TEMPLE
🌈Named for the 'Jade Spring' of the Yuan Dynasty. It boasts over 90 Taoist buildings and is known as the 'Number One Famous Temple in Southeastern Gansu';
Nanshan Scenic Area (Nanguo Temple)
🌈With a history of over a thousand years, it has been a favorite spot for poets and scholars throughout the ages. The great poet Du Fu wrote over 100 poems in praise of it during his visit.
Tianshui Ancient City
🌈One of the largest and best-preserved residential courtyards from the Ming and Qing dynasties in the northwest region. It's better to go at night to see the night view. It's near the Fuxi Temple, and you can stay nearby at night and go directly to the Fuxi Temple the next day. An hour is enough
Maijishan Grottoes
🌈Second only to the Mogao Caves in Dunhuang, it is China's second-largest art cave and is known as the 'Eastern Art Sculpture Gallery'. It is one of the four major grottoes. The Maijishan area is the most worthwhile place to spend time. You can view from a distance and climb the plank road for a detailed appreciation. Generally, it takes about two hours, but if you like sculpture and mural art, time is not a limit.
⭐️Transportation: About 100 yuan by taxi from Tianshui South Station, or you can take a bus
Maiji Never Night City: Intangible cultural heritage folk customs, performances, snacks, fruits, nearly 200 stalls, experience the local night market.
Tianshui City Industrial Museum
🌈Features a science and technology experience hall, time corridor, and industrial history museum, providing insight into the industrial development of Tianshui.
Maijishan Grottoes
🌈95 RMB per person for advance reservation includes the grotto scenic area + sightseeing car, and is known as one of China's four major grottoes along with the Mogao Caves, Longmen Grottoes, and Yungang Grottoes
Maijishan Grottoes--Immortal Cliff
🌈This section has a direct bus for 50 RMB per person (including round-trip direct bus + Immortal Cliff ticket + scenic area sightseeing car)
⭐️It is really recommended to buy this as it is convenient and time-saving, and the scenery of Immortal Cliff is really good with very few tourists. It consists of three cliffs, five peaks, and six temples, mainly touring the three cliffs you can climb the mountain following the route 'West Cliff--East Cliff--South Cliff' without taking the same way back and not missing any scenery
Tianshui Botanical Garden (inside Maijishan)
🌈Not considered a separate attraction, there are ice waterfalls in winter, which are still worth seeing. It takes about half an hour to walk in and out, and if you're looking at the ice waterfalls, it will take a bit longer. It's inside Maijishan and worth a visit.
North and South Houses (Hu Family Ancestral Home)
🌈After breakfast, it's just a few steps away. This is the only remaining official residence from the Ming Dynasty in the northwest region. Because there are two parts, south and north, it is also called North and South Houses. The South House is larger, and the North is slightly smaller. There is an underground passage connecting the North and South Houses, but unfortunately, it was not open when we visited. This place is open to the public for free~ Behind the North and South Houses is the Temple of Literature, one and a half to two hours is enough
Fuxi Temple and Tianshui Museum
🌈The entrance fee for Fuxi Temple is 20 RMB, and it is open for free at certain times. There is a large square in front of the gate, which is probably the place for holding grand ceremonies. The dragon and phoenix window inside is from the Ming Dynasty and is very exquisite. The little red figures used for blessings on the trees in the temple are also quite interesting. Behind the Fuxi Temple is the Tianshui Museum, which is free to visit and can be accessed directly.

Every time I come to Tianshui, I crave this huge, huge, huge
Every time I go home, I yearn for this taste, all Tianshui kids understand!
Honestly, after having so many spicy hot pots, Tianshui's is still my favorite!!
The chili oil on top is jujuju so delicious
It's fragrant but not too spicy...
Those who prefer a stronger taste should add more seasoning, more chili!!
The handmade noodles are so delicious! I could eat two bowls!
Ah ah ah... It's really too delicious 😭😭😭
I don't know how to describe it
📍Location: Right hand side at the entrance of Tianshui Ancient City (forgot the specific name) Tianshui two days and two nights strategy!
~
Travel Tips: Tianshui city is divided into two districts, the train station, high-speed rail station, airport, Maiji Mountain scenic area, and hot spring hotels are all in Maiji District. The 'city area' referred to by locals means Qinzhou District, where the Fuxi Temple, Tianshui Ancient City, and Hu's Residence are located
Day1
🚄Transport: Take the high-speed train to Tianshui South Station and follow the signs to the taxi area, it's less than 40 to the hotel near Fuxi Temple across districts
🕑Itinerary: Haiying Spicy Hot Pot - Hu's Residence (also known as the North and South Houses, took a leisurely two hours) ➡️ Fuxi Temple (Tianshui Museum is also inside, there's a strong cultural atmosphere in the square outside) ➡️ Tianshui Ancient City (recommended to visit the ancient city at night, the lighting is beautiful!) ➡️ Fatty Fish Branch
🏨Hotel: It is recommended to stay between Fuxi Temple and the ancient city, both are close by
🌟Tips: Haiying Spicy Hot Pot tastes good, there are quite a few people queuing during meal times, hand-rolled noodles are a specialty, slightly salty, if you can't eat strong flavors you can say in advance, went to Fatty Fish at 7:30 and still waited half an hour, their slogan is 'since you're here you must try', the taste exceeded expectations, it's recommended for groups of three or more, the smallest fish is 2.6 pounds, two people really can't finish it
Day2
🚕Transport: Take a taxi (drivers say they don't use meters to scenic spots), Qinzhou District to Maiji Mountain 140, Maiji Mountain to hot spring hotel 60
🕑Itinerary: Hotel in Qinzhou District ➡️ Master Wu Guagua ➡️ Maiji Mountain ➡️ Maiji Mountain Hot Spring Hotel
🏨Hotel: Maiji Mountain Hot Spring Hotel, a bit old but heating is sufficient, booked a private hot spring room in a separate courtyard, possibly due to winter the water in the courtyard is not heated, the indoor one can be used, also comes with tickets to the hot spring amusement park and buffet (both amusement park and buffet are average, hotel location is remote, no delivery service, no barbecue nearby)
🌟Tips: Master Wu Guagua is very distinctive, the texture is like mung bean starch products, strong taste with oily chili seasoning, apricot tea is like a salty almond dew. Maiji Mountain is not divided into A and B lines during the off-season, there's a temple selling cultural and creative products on the right hand side before ticket inspection, got a new city fridge magnet!

Gansu | A bowl of spicy hot pot in Tianshui sets a city ablaze
Gansu Tianshui's spicy hot pot is trending again ! Even through the screen, you can smell the fragrant aroma wafting through the air🍲, making it irresistible!

The ancient town is peaceful and serene under the night sky
Tonight, coming to this ancient town, walking past the small bridges over flowing water, the tranquil and beautiful night scene is refreshing to the soul.
The riverside stone path, with its crystal-clear stones, emits a faint glow. Stepping on them feels like ripples undulating on the white silk bridge by the riverside. Following the direction of the small bridges and flowing water, there is a bright light in the distance. Upon closer inspection, it turns out to be the night market there, with lights twinkling and creating an extraordinarily lively atmosphere.
Wandering in the night, the flickering lights give a sense of comfort and ease. The houses on both sides of the street still retain their original appearance from years past. This place has a long history, and every corner is imbued with a rich cultural heritage.
The sound of music and voices, along with the intermittent laughter, instantly intoxicates me. The night market is always so charming, with its delicious food, snacks, specialties, and trinkets all irresistible.
The night in the ancient town is quiet yet noisy. The peaceful small bridges and flowing water contrast with the lively laughter and chatter of the night market. At dusk, the quiet and beautiful scenery of the ancient town always makes one's heart linger, reluctant to leave.

Experience Review:
The air on Mount Jiuhua is truly fresh; taking a breath makes you feel like you could fly. The temples on the mountain are really numerous; I even wondered if I had entered a large religious theme park. What impressed me the most was the vegetarian food on Mount Jiuhua; it was really delicious. Overall, Mount Jiuhua is a place worth visiting, not only for the beautiful natural scenery but also for the profound Buddhist culture.
Journey Feelings:
Mount Jiuhua, this place is unbelievably beautiful! The mountains are clear, the waters are pure, and the air is as if it's been filtered. My friends and I climbed all the way up, and although we were as tired as dogs, the view from the mountaintop was absolutely worth it! The misty clouds made me feel like I was about to float away. And the temples here have a special vibe, very calming to the soul. The only downside is that it's a bit crowded, which can affect the mood a bit. But all in all, the trip to Mount Jiuhua was really great.
