The two bridges were built in the 12th year of the Showa era (1937) and are collectively called "Eternal Bridges". In the past, before the Alishan Highway was opened, the only way to enter Alishan was to go through this bridge. At that time, the Japanese built the "Ten Chang Di Jiu Bridge" to celebrate the birthdays of the Emperor Showa (Emperor Hirohito) and the empresses (Empress Ryoko and Empress Kashun), because the birthday of the emperor in Japan was called "Tianchang Festival", and the birthday of the empress was called "Earth". Therefore, the two bridges were named "Tianchang Bridge" and "Dijiu Bridge" respectively, and they were collectively called "Eternal and Everlasting" bridges, to wish the emperor and his concubine a happy marriage, "Eternal and Long".
