Public Areas The hotel's public areas are decorated with Chinese-style patterns and wooden floors with wool carpets, showing a low-key and elegant design. You can also watch the night view of the Potala Palace in the lounge on the sixth floor. The elegant lounge is furnished with comfortable sofas and satin pillows. Whether you are chatting with friends, reading alone, or enjoying the lake view outside the window, it is a perfect choice. It was my first time in Tibet and I spent 3 days at the St. Regis Lhasa for the New Year. People always ask if I had altitude sickness, and I think 95% of people will have a reaction when they first arrive on the plateau. The body needs time to adapt to the thin oxygen content, and even people who have lived in Tibet for decades will have a reaction when they return to high altitudes from the plains. It's like the fable of the little horse crossing the river, everyone reacts differently. Some people adapt quickly, some take a day or two, and some people suffer a lot. In addition to the service and food being online during the Spring Festival and Tibetan New Year, the St. Regis has a 24-hour altitude sickness medical room. The doctor there has a military doctor background and is very experienced in treating various altitude sickness symptoms. The "magic medicine" costs CNY 25 per pack and usually takes effect in half an hour. The doctor has many different views on altitude sickness than those online. Online, it says you shouldn't exercise for a while before going to Tibet. The doctor said that exercise can improve cardiopulmonary function and the ability of red blood cells to transport oxygen, which is conducive to quickly adapting to high-altitude environments. Online, it says you should take rhodiola for a while before going to Tibet. The doctor said that rhodiola is similar to Chinese medicine, and it varies from person to person. Some people will get angry after taking it, and their altitude sickness will be more serious after entering Tibet, so it is not recommended. Another thing, online it says you should endure altitude sickness and not always inhale oxygen to let your body adapt. Adaptation is correct, but the standard treatment for altitude sickness is to quickly relieve symptoms and inhale oxygen intermittently. Lack of oxygen is like being hungry, so you should eat when you're hungry and inhale oxygen when you're lacking oxygen. Your body will be relieved immediately, and you can gradually adapt. My partner had the most serious altitude sickness among us. Vomiting caused electrolyte imbalance, loss of appetite, and weakness. He had an IV (to protect the stomach and supplement electrolytes) and inhaled medical oxygen in the hotel medical room. After an hour or two, he started to want to eat, and everyone was happy. I tried the hotel's co-branded afternoon tea, the exclusive barley-flavored "Tubo Mary," and the delicious Wagyu beef hot pot.
