You can reach this temple from Kyoto by train, ride takes car by 10-15min or by bus 35-45 min, depending time of the day and departing point. The original Tenryuji temple was built in 1339 and it has burnt several times, so current buildings are from 19th century. It is the most important temple in Arashiyama and it is also one of the 17 UNESCO World Heritage sites in Kyoto. Temple consists several buildings like Hojo (main hall) and Drawing building. They are connected with covered walking path. Temple has also beautiful garden and it is in original format, despite all destruction that has come to temple buildings. The temple has a beautiful hall overlooking a magnificent pool. But the garden is the reason why I want to go there. Certainly one of the best of Kyoto very large which is unusual and with a large variety of plants which is not du frequent. Somewhat crowded and not during the cherry blossom season ! I stayed in Arashiyama for 3 nights and 4 days, so I had plenty of time to see everything. But when I actually went there, I thought I could see Tenryuji, Arashiyama Park, and Chikurin all in one day. My travel order was Nonomiya Shrine > Chikurin > Tenryuji > Kimono Forest! When you go up to Chikurin, you will come out at the back gate instead of the main gate of Tenryujin. Go in there and come out the other way to the main gate. Or, you can go into Tenryuji, see Chikurin, and then come out towards Arashiyama Park. The serene garden of Tenryuji and the scenery created by the old trees were like a sumi-e painting. In particular, the bamboo forest and blue sky reflected in the lake were more beautiful to see with your eyes than in a photo. There was a long bench🪑 in front of the garden, so although there were many people, you could sit and look at the garden and watch the beautiful scene of a brief shower🌧️ falling into the garden! As you slowly walk around the inside of the temple, your mind naturally becomes calm, and it was a special time to take a deep breath and escape from your tiring daily life. 7 days 6 nights self-drive tour of Keihan Nara, Japan ~ Rented an 8-seater Serena plus 5 suitcases + 6 suitcases, not crowded, comfortable to sit, happy to upgrade the hybrid for me for free, good drive. The first day off the plane at 1:30 to pick up the car went to the next Lin Kong City outlet walked for a while there are many shops to buy things, then straight to Arashiyama one-stop two-eat (hot spring is great)! The next day we went to Tenryuji Temple, walked a walk along the Arashiyama shopping street, went to take the small train (remember to buy a round trip to see the scenery, because there was nothing to see when you got off at Kugao), then back to Kyoto at dusk to see Kinkakuji Temple, then find barbecue dinner! On the third day we went to Kinosaki (to 2 hours) to walk to the island sandbar (to walk 1 hour, the elderly recommend taking a boat round trip), to the opposite ride on the rugby car to the top of the city view, very strong strong wind followed by the boat house (drive about 20 minutes). On the fourth day, we went for a hike at Fushimi Inari Taisha Shrine, the most famous attraction in Kyoto, then straight down to Uji for 抹茶 (souvenirs can be bought here, too delicious), then down to Nara Yuhara Hotel. Fifth day to Nara Park, lots of deer and deer are very polite, there the temple is very large and lined up, the whole park takes a day, afternoon back to Osaka city center hotel, walk a walk to the mall, Tenman Bridge is a lot of people (maybe near Osaka Castle). On the sixth day, we went to the animal park to see lions, tigers and giraffes (children's favorite), followed by lots of food next door to treat our stomachs, and in the afternoon we went to Osaka Castle Tenshu Gate (three famous cities worth seeing), followed by Shinsaibashi shopping and dinner. The seventh morning went to Linkong City outlet last shopping, followed by return on the plane very rich and colorful 7-day trip haha!
