Temppeliaukion Church - The Stone Church
#celebratewithtrip
A must-try attraction when you visit Helsinki. Very beautiful, peaceful and holy place to not only Christians but also tourists. A special church was created by carving into a huge stone. So the locals call it as "the stone church".
Beautiful rock church open daily from 10am - 7 pm except Sundays. They offer 15 minute tours in English and Finnish. Cost to get in is 5 euro. Very lovely.

layover in Helsinki for 3hrs
I arrived at the Helsinki airport in the morning for a layover. I decided to sightsee the city of Helsinki during the layover for just 7hours, including the passport security which took almost 1 hour. I headed to the Templeliaukio church via Uber. I should have taken the train since it was way cheaper than Uber and similar time. The church was so impressive. As shown the picture, there was a 9 foot size Steinway grand piano. I wish I could play that piano and heard the sound which resonate the hall. Just looking closer at the piano and the pipe organ was content. I uploaded the video of visiting the Temppiaukio church at my YouTube channel called StoneMing. #helsinki #layover

Citywalk in Finland’s Capital!
A city walk in Helsinki can be a delightful experience. You might start at the central train station, an architectural gem by Eliel Saarinen. From there, head to the nearby Senate Square to admire the impressive Helsinki Cathedral. Stroll down Aleksanterinkatu for shopping and cafes, then visit the Esplanadi park for a break.
You could explore the Design District, home to unique boutiques and galleries. Don't miss the Market Square (Kauppatori) for local food and crafts. For a more historical touch, walk to the Fortress of Suomenlinna, which requires a short ferry ride but offers a scenic view and rich history.
Helsinki also has beautiful seaside promenades and parks like the Sibelius Park, where you can see the Sibelius Monument. If you have time, visit the Temppeliaukio Church, built into rock, for its unique architecture.

Helsinki may be small, but it's a place where cold and warmth coexist
Most people come to Helsinki because they have to transfer here for most of the day, so I did a lot of research before I came. Many friends chose the one-day or even half-day travel guides provided by many people. At that time, I was thinking that I could play so much, maybe the two and a half days itinerary could be filled up. But after coming here, I found out that maybe it's not everyone's fault, this city is really small, so small that you can finish most of the check-in spots in this city without even taking a transportation tool for a whole day.
But, although Helsinki is small, there may also be places that are really worth it here.
Although it has been raining for three consecutive days, you can also take the photos you have been looking forward to here. There are unique positions of the red and white church taken by one person walking on the main street of the city when the sky is not bright in the early morning; there is a peaceful atmosphere felt in the temple square church built by stone piles, surrounded by candles and listening to organ music; there is a Christmas atmosphere in the Nordic countries, although not much, but still exists; since it is rainy, then here may really only belong to the rainy night, two days to walk through the whole city, also took the tram at night that I have been thinking about since I left Lisbon.
This place may not really be a foodie's paradise, even the famous deer meat may not be anything special (friends feel like beef after eating), but at least you can drink to your heart's content at Kappeli, and the salmon soup is very delicious.
This place also proves the environmental awareness of the Nordic people. The first feeling of coming to Helsinki is orderly. The tram shuttling through the city is the most convenient transportation tool in this city, making the whole city look particularly neat and quiet. Even in the heavy rain, the streets and every shop you walk into are clean and tidy, with classified trash cans and electric scooters everywhere, the best quality drinking water in the world, and the tram station and city architecture style that look cold and simple enough in the Nordic style. In the wooden house hotel built by the mountain forest where I chose to stay on the second day, almost everything is recyclable. From the restaurant to the furnishings and materials in the room, almost all are made of recyclable wood. Try not to buy new ones. Even the building itself is said to be bought from the activity center here by the front desk sister, jokingly saying that even the building itself is recycled, including the amount of breakfast will not be too much to avoid unnecessary waste. Even here there is a quite special habit, that is, the number of times to clean the house, the front desk sister said if the guest stays for a long time, whether to clean or not during the period is according to the customer's wishes, if the customer does not require cleaning, generally for sustainable development, will choose to clean once every three days, the resources that can be saved can be used to plant a tree for free. It can be said that here, environmental protection can be felt everywhere, and it is also an element and topic that everyone is consciously abiding by.
Although Helsinki is cold, there are also warm places, such as the warmest library I have ever seen, in the central library of the hymn, for the first time I saw resources that can be used by everyone, sewing machines, 3D printers, meeting rooms, and some engineering design machines I have never seen before, even a whole floor of a huge bookstore and children's play area, children crawling on the ground, adults playing with them. It's raining heavily outside, Finland is very cold, but here it makes people feel extremely warm.
The purpose of this trip to Denmark and Finland is to experience more about Nordic sustainable development related things, just this point is worth it, not to mention that I took so many photos that I feel shocked. This city may really be suitable for those who are willing to walk in the street with an umbrella, or walk into a coffee shop or restaurant on the street at will, willing to sit by the window, looking at the rain outside the window in a daze. Come here, don't deliberately pursue the time you chase me, it's not worth your time, and don't want you to ignore its most precious place because of the rush of the itinerary. So maybe every city has its own special and proud places, don't go too deep, this city may be like those two red and white castles, quietly watching the time flow, it doesn't belong to anyone, you just need to find the point you like it, maybe this is the meaning of travel.

Finland's most iconic rock church
does not see the splendour of the traditional church and the cascading steps, which look like a flying saucer. The faade of the thick rocky base will be missed if you don't pay attention to it. Inadvertently through the tunnel-like entrance, drill into this rock church, you will find that there is a hole in the sky.
There is no master sculpture, no icon, no gorgeous decoration. The walls of the church are rock. The front is a simple altar with a huge dome above it. Above the rock is a skylight that shines into the sky. Light of the light. On the edge of the altar, the female violinist plays an elegant tunes and listens quietly like a scorpio.
This famous European church was built from a single piece of rock, designed by the famous designer Somaran Brothers, and completed in 1969. Standing outside the church, you can see a huge rock that does not see the spires and bell towers of the church. The bronze vault of the church makes people feel that they are not in the ground. Because the hall is ring-shaped, the sound effect is very good. In addition to religious activities, various concerts including symphonies are held from time to time.
Finland is also known as the capital of design. The rock church is unique throughout Europe. The entire church is surrounded by a huge rock interior. It is very strange and the design is very creative. Only when entering the church can the business find his shock, the mysterious design, and the Finns' advocating natural and simple aesthetic feelings are fully reflected here.

Finland, the country with the highest happiness index, is looking for happiness. In the magnificent design of the rock church, it is the meaning of light behind the darkness. This is the only church in the world built in rock. Located in the rocky square of Tampere in the heart of Helsinki, it was designed and built in 1969 by the architect Tim and the Dum Sumarinen brothers. The tunnel-like entrance and the inner walls of natural granite make this place natural and quaint. The unique round dome has a radial beam and pillars, densely inlaid with copper wire. The glass skylight gives it a great light, just like a mysterious flying saucer coming out of outer space.

Going to Finland to see Aurora, passing through Helsinki, you can't miss the famous rock church in Northern Europe.
When it comes to the architectural art of European churches, Finland is definitely not a name. But in the Finnish capital of Helsinki, there is a church that shocks the whole of Europe, that is, the "rock church" built in the rock, also known as the Tamperio Kio Church, which was completed in 1969 and is Siomar. The elaborate masterpieces of the La Nie brothers are surprisingly constructive. The
rock church design is extremely innovative. It is built from the rocky highlands on the residential street. In order not to damage the natural landscape around the church, the Siomara family drilled the rock and the church was built. In natural rock, from the outside of the church, it is difficult to see that this is a church, and there is no cross mark outside the church.
The roof of the church is dome-shaped with a hundred radial beams and columns, and is covered with clear glass. The light comes from the outside during the daytime. The interior of the church is very light and completely free of other lighting.

The first stop to Helsinki is to the rock church. After all, this is a combination of religion and art.
Unlike other churches, it is really impossible to see a church from the outside. It is very special to build in the rock.
After entering, there is a contrast, the outside is so simple, but there is a little science fiction inside, still very shocked.
The largest organ in Northern Europe, and concert performances in the evening, don't miss it!

The Rock Church, also known as the Tempelio Chio Church. Completed in 1969, it is a masterpiece of the Siomara brothers.
Ethiopia Rock Church. Located more than 300 kilometers north of Addis Ababa, the capital of Ethiopia, it was included in the World Heritage List in 1979.
As the rock church in the heart of Helsinki (aka Tamperio Kio Church), it is a landmark attraction in Helsinki and should be visited during a visit to Helsinki. It is a building built in a whole piece of rock, and it is very special in the construction industry! The design is not the same! Free access to the tour within the specified time~

The Church of the Rock (Temppeliaukion-kirkko) is the only church in the world built on rock. The exterior completely subverts the concept of the church. It looks like a flying saucer. The entrance is like a tunnel. More than 200 architectural magazines praised it.
Compared to other churches in Helsinki, it looks very low-key the whole semi-underground structure, only the oval church hall is bathed in daylight. The exterior walls are inlaid with copper and the inner walls completely retain the natural granite stone wall texture. The Finns' natural and quaint aesthetics are fully reflected here. The
chapel has two floors and can accommodate nearly 1,000 people. Inside the church, under the echo of the rock wall, the sound is wonderful, so many concerts are held here.
Wooden dome is like a flying saucer on the top of the head. The rugged original rock wall is simple and unique. For example, rain and snow, the water will seep out from the rock cracks of the church and flow down the rock wall, adding natural soundtrack to the church sound. . It is also a good place for self-portraits~

The rock church in the heart of Helsinki is also known as the Church of Tempeglio. This is the famous "rock church" in Europe, located in the Tampere Rock Plaza in the heart of Helsinki. The entire square is covered by a huge rock that is undulating, and the rock is 8 to 13 meters higher than the street next to it, and the square is naturally preserved. The landscape here is natural and rustic, and the inner walls of the church are the original features of the rock without any modification. The top wall is made of shredded rock. It looks loose and messy. It seems to fall at any time. But in fact, every stone is carefully selected. The original color adds a return to nature. feel. Water droplets ooze out of the rock seam and flow into the groundwater channel along the rock wall, enhancing the acoustics in the church. The splendid vault reflects the candlelight below, which is an artistic place for the entire church.
This is also the only church in the world built in rock. The magnificent design of the Rock Church is extremely novel and ingenious. The church was built using the rocky highlands on the residential street. In order not to damage the natural landscape, the rock is partially excavated and the church is built in natural rock. Therefore, when you come to the square, you will not notice the location of the church. The roof is designed with a dome, with one hundred radial beams and columns supported by transparent glass.

The rock church in Helsinki is very special. It is very different from the church that usually has a traditional cross and a podium. The whole church is made of natural rock. It is not visible outside. It is hidden. It is like digging a big hole in the ground. The only church in the world built on rocks. The exterior walls of the church are inlaid with copper, the inner walls completely preserve the original granite, and the top is designed with a large hollowed wooden roof. The sun shines through the cracks into the church, complementing the huge organ that stands inside. Occasionally, small water drops are occasionally left on the surrounding rock walls, and in some places, small wooden barrels are placed on the water. So, instead of a church, it is more like a small concert hall. The music reverberation effect caused by the rock is comparable to that of the speakers. No wonder there are music performances such as piano performances. Unfortunately, I went twice, twice close to the closing time, and missed the wonderful music, hoping to get the next chance.
