Don't forget to make a visit on the opposite side of the river bank to enjoy the panoramic view of Taj Mahal. Spare 2-3 hours for a visit to see the detail of marble art. You have to try and see this for yourself as it is really hard to describe how incredible it is. One of the most iconic buildings in the world and it didn't disappoint. Yes, of course there are crowds of people but don't let that deter you. It is breathtakingly beautiful. You will be told, as you collect your complimentary water, that you should have a guide or else face hours of waiting in queues, all I can say is that for us it wasn't the case. We had very little, if any queuing, and saved ourselves around 900 rupees. Timing is everything as it can be quite misty some days early in the year (we were here late Jan). We got lucky I guess. Visiting Taj Mahal is one of best activities in the itinerary of our trip to India. It is worth to visit despite of the long line (about 2 hours waiting to enter the Mahal.
