Tainan - Tainan Art Museum 1, converted from the old police station
#springsummer2024
#Tainan Art Museum No. 1 was formerly the Tainan City Police Station. It is a Baroque building built in 1930. Both the exterior and interior of the museum are quite antique and have a sense of history.
After the police station moved with the city government, it became the Tainan Art Museum. In addition to preserving the overall structure of the original building, even the old banyan tree in the atrium was preserved. It was then widened and covered using new architectural techniques, and the translucent glass ceiling cleverly connected the new and old spaces, perfectly displaying them to the public.
Compared to the modern aesthetics of the second museum, I personally think that the classical aesthetics of the first museum has more artistic value, with dome arcades, double staircases and entrances. Even Lin Chi-ling held her wedding banquet here, which caused a sensation. This shows that the status of the South American Museum is different from others.
The most representative exhibit in the museum is #SplendidSouthernIridescentDream, a large-scale ceramic sculpture by artist Lai Shixiong. Inspired by the gorgeous colored porcelain tiles of old houses in Tainan, the hand-fired tiles symbolize the flowers of the four seasons.
The most precious treasure of the museum, the mosaic floral mural on display in the lobby, is the work of artist Yan Shuilong.
Tickets for the first and second buildings of the Tainan Art Museum are valid, so you can enjoy two different art buildings at once. Tainan citizens can enjoy a half-price ticket of $100, which is quite a good deal. You can also go there to enjoy some air conditioning.
