Siracusa, also known as Syracuse, is an ancient coastal city on the Italian island of Sicily. It is located on the east coast of the island and has a population of about 125,000. It covers an area of 204 square kilometers. It is located at 37°05'N, 15°17'E. Due to its rich historical relics, Syracuse has become a famous tourist attraction and an important tourist town in Italy: the limestone buildings of the old town of Ortygia contrast with the blue Ionian Sea. The complete Greek theater is preserved in the archaeological park. The papyrus wetland at the mouth of the Anapo River is the only wild papyrus community in Europe. When you cross it by boat, you can see herons flying over the ruins of the Temple of Apollo. Anemones coexist with the Byzantine aqueduct beside the blue flag-certified Aretusa Spring. The jagged battlements of the Maniace Castle overlook the natural harbor, and the crypt retains the mural of the martyrdom of St. Lucy. There are thousands of Bronze Age tombs in Pantalica Canyon, which is now a United Nations ecological reserve.
