The only church in Rotterdam built in the Middle Ages, in Gothic style. In the hearts of many locals, the Church of St. Lawrence is a testimony to the history of Rotterdam. Today, the entire building is magnificent, integrating various functions such as churches, exhibitions, and events. Historical Background The construction of the church began in 1449 and was not completed until 1525. Destroyed in the Second World War, after several repairs, it has retained its current complete appearance. In addition to continuing the function of the church, it is also used as a venue for exhibitions, concerts and other activities. On the square in front of the guided tour church stands the bronze statue of Erasmus, a well-known Dutch theologian and humanist thinker. The entire symmetrical Gothic architecture is majestic, and the towering towers offer a panoramic view of the city, which requires an additional fee to climb the tower. Entering the church, you can see paintings hanging on two walls. In the center of the church is a mahogany carved shrine, in which the great statue of St. Lawrence is buried.
