A super fun parent-child hike.
Autumn is the best time for hiking in Hangzhou.
🌈 It's a great time to take your kids out for a walk. This hiking route is fun and interesting, with delicious food, streams, waterfalls, caves, tea gardens, and pomegranate trees along the way.
·
🔄 Our route: Shiwudong - Shangmanjuelong - Baihefeng - Yangmeiling - Jiuxi Yanshu - Jiuxi Bus Station
·
1. Navigate to Shiwudong (Parking nearby is inconvenient and expensive, so I took the subway 🚇 to "Huanglongdong" Station and took Bus 87 to Shiwudong).
2. For boys, Shiwudong is an entry-level cave adventure experience. There are several caves here, all dark and mysterious. One of the caves goes from the foot of the mountain to the top, as if traveling through time and space. There are murals on the stone walls inside the cave, which are very interesting.
(⚠️ The stone steps in the cave are a bit slippery because of the water, so you need to walk slowly. Bring a flashlight 🔦, as it is very dark inside the cave).
3. Leave Shiwudong and walk towards Shangmanjuelong. After about 200 meters, you will see the entrance to Baihefeng. Climb up and you will see the "bathhouse" prototype from Hayao Miyazaki's anime.
(⚠️ If you want to take a close-up photo of the bathhouse, you can buy a bottle of mineral water (3 yuan) from the tea garden owner and then enter the garden to take photos. If you don't buy it, you can't go in).
4. Climb to the top of the tea garden and you can see West Lake. The mountain is not high, and it takes about 15 minutes to reach the top.
5. Return the same way and continue towards Shangmanjuelong. You can see beautiful persimmon trees and soapberry trees along the way, as well as teahouses and farmhouses on both sides of the road.
6. Walk towards Yangmeiling. The road to Yangmeiling is all downhill.
7. Walk past Yangmeiling and head towards Jiuxi Yanshu. The streams and tea trees are very peaceful and beautiful. It's okay for kids to run around here. You can also see jelly green water and waterfalls at Jiuxi Yanshu.
8. After arriving at Jiuxi Yanshu, we chose to take a sightseeing bus to Jiuxi Bus Station, 8 yuan/person. You don't need to buy a ticket if you hold your child. The ride takes about 10 minutes.
·
✅ We walked with our kids for 3.5 hours, and the whole trip was fun and relaxing.
✅ This route is suitable for strollers, as the whole route is flat. When playing at Shiwudong, you can leave the stroller next to the stone table.

When does the sweet osmanthus bloom in Hangzhou? When does the "fragrance fill the city"?
Osmanthus, one of China's top ten famous flowers, has been cultivated in China for over 2,000 years. It blooms from September to October, and the fruiting period is in March of the following year.
In its 2,000-year history, osmanthus has been used to treat phlegm, cough, asthma, cold abdominal pain, and dysmenorrhea. It can be processed into osmanthus cakes for consumption. Osmanthus cakes have a long history and are also known as Chongyang cakes. There is a poem that says, "Mid-Autumn Festival has just passed and it's Chongyang again, and flower cakes are busy everywhere." It also has ornamental value. Its tree shape is upright and elegant, the crown is "round", and the soft tree shape gives people a sense of stability and peace. Xie Mao of the Song Dynasty described osmanthus as "green clouds cut leaves, low protection of gold", and Gu Ying of the Yuan Dynasty wrote "golden millet is falling like rain".
Therefore, osmanthus has always been popular!
So the question is, when does the osmanthus bloom in Hangzhou? When does the "fragrance fill the city"?
Many friends asked Uncle Cricket, why haven't we smelled the osmanthus yet?
In fact, the news of this year's "first osmanthus in Hangzhou" came out last week. This year's first osmanthus is located on the south side of the Sun Square in the Children's Park, opposite the "Star Osmanthus".
This year's osmanthus is so late, in fact, because of the weather, the early silver osmanthus in the Children's Park bloomed first a few days ago, but there were not many flowers and the fragrance was very light. At present, most of the osmanthus trees in Hangzhou are still quietly waiting for the "flower fairy" to call.
To "fragrance fill the city", the conditions that need to be met are that the phenological index of early autumn osmanthus is that the average temperature is lower than 26°C 10 days before flowering, and the minimum temperature is less than 24°C; the average temperature is lower than 23°C 10 days before the late autumn osmanthus blooms, and the minimum temperature is less than 20°C.
That is to say, since the cold air moved south last weekend in Hangzhou, the temperature of the Hangzhou National Benchmark Station has dropped below 26°C from the 21st to the 23rd. The temperature will rise slightly in the next few days. After the 26th, it is not ruled out that the average temperature will be higher than 26°C for 1-2 days, but the average temperature will not be higher than 26°C for the entire second half of September. At the end of the month, due to the reduction of cloud cover in the sky, the temperature difference between day and night can reach about 10°C, which is exactly the weather that osmanthus likes. So from the end of September to the beginning of October, osmanthus in Hangzhou may gradually bloom.
That is to say, the "fragrance fills the city" of Hangzhou Osmanthus is basically around the "National Day holiday". Don't miss it if you like it!
Recommended places for everyone to enjoy osmanthus are Manjuelong, Hangzhou Children's Park, Jiuxi Yanshu, Yangmeiling, Jingci Temple, Hupao Park, Hangzhou Flower Nursery, Lingyin Temple, Liangzhu Ancient City Ruins Park, Xiaohe Straight Street, the most recommended are Manjuelong and Lingyin Temple!
How about it? Are you interested in osmanthus? Welcome to leave a message for discussion!

Exploring the Stone House Cave was completely unexpected.
After having lunch at Manjuelong and checking in at the popular spot Tangwu,
we were about to take the bus 🚍 due to the scorching midday heat.
Unexpectedly, we discovered this quiet courtyard attraction by the roadside.
🌈 Scenic Features
We never thought that this inconspicuous courtyard would have such a hidden gem.
In addition to many exquisite cliff carvings,
there are also calligraphy works left by the great Song Dynasty literati Su Dongpo.
Outside the stone cave is a large courtyard with lush trees 🌳 and a photogenic Chinese-style archway.
🌈 Activities for Kids
The stone caves inside are connected, allowing you to traverse from the main cave to the lower or upper levels.
There are also two pavilions where you can overlook the entire garden.
The children played adventure games together,
having a great time!
🌳 Cooling and Refreshing
In the 40-degree heat, the stone caves are a great place to cool down.
The caves are cold and damp, very refreshing.
The key is that there are not many people, unlike those crowded famous attractions.
When the osmanthus flowers bloom in autumn, it will be another beautiful scene.
