Located in the northeastern part of Japan's Seto Inland Sea, Shodoshima is under the jurisdiction of Kagawa Prefecture and is the second largest island in the Seto Inland Sea. This diamond-shaped island is famous for its olive cultivation, traditional soy sauce brewing and unique landforms. It is connected to major ports such as Takamatsu Port and Kobe Port by regular ferries. Regularly operated island sightseeing buses connect major attractions. The island is full of olive groves, with white flowers all over the mountains in spring and fruits in autumn. The Greek windmills and Mediterranean plants in the garden form a unique landscape. The natural wonder "Kanxia Gorge" is one of the three most beautiful valleys in Japan. Take a cable car to enjoy the panoramic view of the canyon with columnar jointed rock walls and maple leaves. The hiking trail runs through the original oak forest. The "Angel Road" sandbar shaped by the tide appears twice a day at low tide, and the sea trail connecting Nakayo Island and the main island has become a romantic check-in spot. The white-walled buildings of Tonosho Town in the west of the island retain the style of the Edo period merchant town, and soy sauce warehouses converted into cafes are distributed on both sides of the stone road. Art lovers can also visit the Setouchi Triennale exhibits. Cycling around the island is a popular experience, passing by the Senmaida terraced rice fields, olive cattle ranch and other landscapes along the coastline.
