I went to Inner Mongolia for the real-life version of "Dune"... I can't believe I found the same desert scenery in Inner Mongolia as in the movie "Dune". I would call it one of the must-see spots in the country~ Singing Sand Bay is divided into two small islands🏝️, Yue Sha Island, sisters who want to see the swimming pool can choose our route, if you have enough time you can go to both, they are not far from each other, and the swimming pool on Yue Sha Island is available for swimming oh~ Next to it, there is also a water amusement park🎠, and you can also ride camels🐫~ - 🔔Equipment suggestions: Be sure to protect yourself from the sun, bring a hat, sun protection clothing, mask (there is a lot of sand and wind), swimsuit👙, dry food, water (available on the island, but it is recommended to bring your own)

Hiking in the Desert is an experience I'll never forget. It was as expected ridiculously hot, with almost no shade. The hiking itself is moderately difficult, you'll just need to make sure you carry enough water as there are no vendors until you reach the campsites. The kit lists you'll be advised to prepare for this kind of tour are completely excessive 🤣. You'll need a pair of hiking shoes, a hat and a load of sun cream (plus your regular travel bag). The guides in our case provided the poles and shoes covers. For the hike, we put all our bags into the tour bus, which met us later in the evening at the campsite. In the campsite they had large communal showers, a huge firepit, a 'restaurant' and a small shop to buy drinks, snacks and local alcoholic beverages. The evening entertainment was a battery powered KTV speaker, Chinese lanterns and a box of fireworks. A cool trip and a different experience.

This place is probably where I’ve had most fun in all of China! In this area of the Kubuqi Desert you will find 3 main things: 🛏 lodging 🍗 food 🏎 quads and all of it is absolutely incredible, cost for benefit, entertaining, and relaxing at the same time. Let’s go by parts. 🛏 LODGING Here there are some containers - yes, actual containers - that have been transformed into nice little rooms. These containers were a 10/10 and so much nicer than other hotels I had paid double the amount for in other cities in Inner Mongolia. The rooms were super clean and tidy, equipped with AC, had a ~huge~ and comfortable bed, nice sheets, an excellent shower with warm water, and even some basic toiletries. They also offered some snacks like instant noodles, cookies, and water for an extra charge. The curtains were black out, so we were able to sleep very well and wake up at a reasonable time the next day. Each night cost around ¥200. 🍗FOOD A few meters ahead of the container rooms, there is a little central restaurant. I believe it’s family owned, so everyone around is super nice and tried to cater to all our needs. We pre-ordered a lamb leg (typical Inner Mongolia dish) in the afternoon and they would prepare it by dinner time. They had several options for side dishes and although some were out of stock, everything they served was delicious. Reasonable price for a great amount of food. And they also had Wi-Fi there! 🏎QUADS The best part. You can rent the quads by the hour, but since it was quiet and we were pretty much the only laowais there, the owners were super relaxed about time and just let us have our fun. The reason this was the best part is because as soon as we got on them and asked how far we could go, the owner just said “whatever, have fun”! We were able to drive around the ~huge~ desert area and explore all the hills! It was truly an unforgettable experience and so worth every rmb! 🌟 This is also where I’ve seen the most beautiful, starry night sky in China. 🌞 In April, our company organized a four-day special forces training trip to Inner Mongolia. I contributed some suggestions and thought they were pretty good, so I’m sharing them with everyone～ 🚗 Itinerary: 1️⃣ Day 1: Depart at 6:30 AM to catch an 8:45 AM flight from Hongqiao Airport, arriving in Hohhot after about three hours. After lunch, check into the hotel, which even arranged a welcome ceremony～ 2️⃣ Day 2: Depart at 8 AM, arriving at Kubuqi Desert by car around 11 AM to start hiking. Plan to reach the camping site ⛺️ by 5 PM, with a bonfire party and fireworks show in the evening! 3️⃣ Day 3: Start hiking in the morning, pass through the fault canyon, and reach the flat beach endpoint 🏁. Take a car back to Hohhot and enjoy a celebratory feast in a Mongolian yurt at night! 4️⃣ Day 4: Free time in the morning—many went out to buy beef jerky and milk tea. The group ✈️ returned to Shanghai in the afternoon! 💗 Tips: 1️⃣ Our team-building trip lasted four days (partially paid by the company). If anyone wants to extend their stay for a deeper exploration of Inner Mongolia, they can use annual leave ❤️. Figure 9 shows the group activity schedule… 2️⃣ The route is in Figure 6—15 km over two days. For those of us who are often either on business trips or in workshops, it wasn’t too stressful. Office workers might need to push themselves a bit, but since it’s spread over two days and the process is fun, the challenge shouldn’t be too great! 3️⃣ Figure 7 shows personal gear suggestions. We decided to provide windbreakers but without the company logo—it feels odd to wear branded gear on personal trips. Plus, if anyone gets detained at customs again, it’s better not to have the company name visible… 4️⃣ The gear in Figure 8 was all provided by the company to save colleagues who aren’t into outdoor activities from rushing to buy everything last minute. Trekking poles need to be checked in, and handling them individually is a hassle, so the company took care of it all at once～ 5️⃣ Why go in April? Shanghai and Guangzhou are already hot by then, but Inner Mongolia’s temperature is just right. May Day marks the start of peak season, and summer prices are even crazier, so April was our pick～ 6️⃣ Most importantly, everyone’s been working so hard on projects lately, with the whole team pulling overtime last month.
