It's designed to cater to the large number of passengers passing through daily, so there's plenty to do and see while waiting for your train. Security and Check-In Like most transportation hubs in China, security is a big priority, and you’ll need to get your bags scanned before entering the station—similar to the metro stations. For those with pre-booked tickets, you’ll only need to show your passport for a quick scan to verify your identity. This part is relatively smooth, though expect a little time to get through, especially during peak hours. Boarding Process Once inside, things get a little more hectic. After going through the passport or ID check, you proceed to your designated gate. The gates don’t open until about 10–15 minutes before departure, but it’s common for passengers to start queuing much earlier to get a good spot. This can create a bit of congestion, especially during busy travel times. When the gate finally opens, you’re in for a bit of a rush to reach the platform. The train stations are often quite large, so you’ll need to hustle to catch the train in time. And once on the platform, you’ll be faced with a very important detail: some of the train compartments are not “interlinked” (the heads of the trains are facing each other), so make sure you’re boarding the right compartment. Book your train tickets in advance! Very crowded and busy at hongqiao station. Bullet train is a good experience though and goes more than 300km an hour from Shanghai to Beijing. Make sure you get there early and if you buy tickets through trip.com you need to redeem at ticket window with your passport. Lots of food outlets too and also has locker storage if needed
