Seward, a city in the southeastern part of the Kenai Peninsula, Alaska, the United States, is a non-frozen port, adjacent to the Ressure Cosin Bay in the Gulf of Alaska, 120 kilometers south of Anchorage. Founded in 1902, it is the main transportation center and cargo supply point in Alaska. There is logging and fishing, and there are oil mines nearby, which have been mined. Named after Secretary of State W.H. Seward, who negotiated the acquisition of Alaska territory on behalf of the United States and Russia in 1867.
