The Marine Liner runs under the Great Seto Bridge heading towards Okayama ⇄ Takamatsu. From the train window you can see the small island of Nabeshima in Sakaide City, Kagawa Prefecture. The white building on Nabeshima is the Nabeshima Lighthouse. The chance and timing is short, but I think it's a memorable building to see from the train window. If I have time, I'd like to go. This time I tried to look at the Seto Ohashi Bridge while riding the Seto Ohashi Bridge Line. The Seto Ohashi Bridge Line also passes over the Seto Ohashi Bridge, so it seems difficult to take pictures, but there is a point along the way where it curves, so I aimed to take pictures there. This train is the Rapid Marine Liner, which connects Okayama and Takamatsu, and if you make a reservation in advance, you can enjoy the panoramic seats in the front car (separate reserved seat fee required). The train I rode this time was a regular car for which no fee is charged, but the interior has reversible cross seats, so if you can secure a seat, it is very comfortable and a good train for taking pictures.

Traveling between Shikoku and Chugoku used to mean taking the JR train, which could save a lot on transportation costs if you had a JR Pass. However, the downside was the need to transfer trains, which involved lugging your luggage between platforms. This time, upon a local friend's recommendation, I took an intercity bus from Matsuyama in Ehime to Okayama. Not only was the journey smooth and comfortable, but the cost was also several thousand yen cheaper than taking the JR train. Let’s talk about the bus experience. The departure point in Matsuyama is Matsuyama Station, but since I was staying near Okaido, I boarded the bus there, saving myself the hassle of backtracking. I must commend Japan's punctuality—the bus arrived exactly on schedule. Tickets were purchased in advance at the Iyo Bus Okaido Service Center, and the driver assisted with loading luggage and confirming seats. The entire trip took about three hours, which is roughly the same as taking the JR train. Midway, the bus stopped at Toyohama Rest Area in Kagawa before crossing the Seto Ohashi Bridge. The most unforgettable part was when the bus drove onto the bridge—the blue skies, white clouds, and the scattered islands of the Seto Inland Sea created a breathtaking vacation-like atmosphere. The Seto Ohashi Bridge spans the Seto Inland Sea, connecting Honshu and Shikoku, serving as a vital link in Japan's transportation network. Its construction was prompted by a tragic shipwreck in the Seto Inland Sea during the 1950s, which claimed over 160 lives, compelling the government to build a bridge between Honshu and Shikoku. Construction began on October 10, 1978, and after nearly a decade of arduous work, the bridge was fully opened to traffic on April 10, 1988. Stretching 37.3 kilometers in total with a 9.4-kilometer section over the sea, the bridge ingeniously combines three suspension bridges, two cable-stayed bridges, and one truss bridge. To ensure unimpeded ship navigation and maintain harmony with the coastal landscape, the bridge piers were built on five small islands in the sea, forming six interconnected bridges—a remarkable achievement in bridge engineering history. At the Seto Ohashi Bridge Memorial Hall, visitors can delve into the magnificent structure of this once world's longest dual-purpose railway and highway bridge through extensive architectural archives. Higashiyama Kaii, a master artist of 20th-century Japan, is celebrated at the Kagawa Prefectural Higashiyama Kaii Museum of Art, located along the Seto Inland Sea. Here, visitors can admire the artist's masterpieces while enjoying panoramic views of the entire Seto Ohashi Bridge through the café's expansive floor-to-ceiling windows.

#0yentravel I've taken the Setouchi Ohashi Line many times, but the scenery when crossing the Seto Inland Sea is always beautiful and I never get tired of it. When the train approaches the bridge, I can't help but stare at the ocean and islands that spread out in front of me outside the window. Especially on sunny days, the blue of the ocean and the white of the bridge stand out beautifully, and it feels really good. The rocking of the train is so pleasant that I want to ride it again just to see that view. No matter how many times I go by, it feels special every time I cross.

Marugame is very close to Takamatsu. We took a two-day self-drive trip and checked in at most of the famous spots. The road conditions were good, and although it was New Year's, there were more cars than usual, but we could still find parking lots. "Seto Great Bridge" is the general name for the ten bridges across the Seto Inland Sea between Honshu (Kurashiki City, Okayama Prefecture) and Shikoku (Sakaide City, Kagawa Prefecture), Japan. It is also one of the three routes of the Honshu-Shikoku Bridge. 《Seto Ohashi Tower》 I accidentally discovered the 360-degree rotating observation tower at the foot of the Seto Ohashi Bridge and Seto Ohashi Memorial Park, the gateway to Shikoku. It is a disc-shaped observation deck similar to a UFO. It slowly rotates in about 10 minutes and rises to a height of 108 meters above the ground. I took advantage of the long weekend in October to go to Shikoku. I got to Shikoku by plane, but made a point of going close to the Great Seto Bridge to get a glimpse of it.
