[Flight Review] United Airlines Polaris Business Class San Francisco to Tokyo Haneda
Choosing the right flight is key to whether you can travel comfortably on a long-distance international flight. This time, I took United Airlines' flagship business class, Polaris, on an 11.5-hour flight from San Francisco to Tokyo Haneda. I'll introduce the seats, in-flight meals, and amenities I learned about when I actually boarded the flight.
⸻
✅ What is Polaris Business Class?
United Airlines' premium business class for long-distance international flights. It offers a full range of services to ensure a comfortable trip, including fully flat seats, luxurious bedding, a wide selection of meals and drinks, and lounge access.
⸻
✈️ Boarding: Start from San Francisco Airport
Go through the boarding gate and enter the plane. The seats are arranged in a 1-2-1 herringbone configuration, and all seats have aisle access. This time, I chose seat 12G.
• The seats are booth-style, giving a sense of individuality.
• Ample leg space even when seated.
• Carry-on luggage can be stored under the ottoman (except during takeoff and landing).
📸 The photos also show the welcome screen upon boarding and the movements of passengers around you.
⸻
🛏 The bedding and amenities are luxurious!
United's Polaris bedding is made by Saks Fifth Avenue. The blankets and pillows are luxurious, so you can get a good night's sleep on board.
The amenity kit is a collaboration pouch with AWAY, and is fully equipped with an eye mask, toothbrush, skin care set, socks, and more.
📸 The contents of the kit are clearly visible in the image, and it is clear that it is very practical.
⸻
🍽 In-flight meals: Satisfying in both volume and taste!
After takeoff, you can choose from three dinners:
• Beef short ribs
• Salmon with coconut sauce (optional)
• Vegetarian chili and polenta cake
The salmon was plump and went well with the Thai risotto-style rice served on the side. The Asian salad was also refreshing with dressing.
📸 The salad, main dish, bread, and drink were all beautifully arranged, and it was great to watch the movie "Indiana Jones" while eating.
Dessert time:
• Vanilla ice cream topped with brownies and chocolate fudge
• A good sweet replenishment with hot coffee
⸻
🍷 Drinks and snacks
The welcome drink was water, but you can enjoy cocktails and sparkling water with nuts during cocktail time.
📸 The photo of Seagram's cans and cocktail glasses lined up is cool.
⸻
🍳 Breakfast before arrival
A hot breakfast was served before arriving at Haneda. The menu included:
• Egg bites (Monterey Jack and red pepper)
• Sausage
• Roasted potatoes and tomatoes
• Fruit bowl
• Greek yogurt
• Bread
The quantity and quality were sufficient, and the volume was just right before arriving in Japan.
📸 The well-organized breakfast set looked great under the bright cabin lighting, and it would be Instagram-worthy.
⸻
🎬 Entertainment and in-flight environment
• Large monitor size and touch panel type
• Noise-canceling headphones included
• The cabin was dark and moody in night mode
• Equipped with charging ports, USB, reading lights, etc.
⸻
🧳 Summary: Flying with Polaris is a worthwhile experience!
✔️ Good points:
• Quiet and private seats
• High quality bedding, I slept well
• In-flight meals were consistently plentiful and tasty
• Amenities were plentiful
⸻
You can also earn miles on this flight, so I highly recommend it to anyone who wants to travel comfortably from America to Asia. United Polaris was an experience that made me want to do it again!
