SamseongsanBojangsa Temple Alone, Winter Tranquility
On the afternoon of February 20th, I felt calm as I climbed the snow-covered stone steps of SamseongsanBojangsa Temple. The monk I met in front of the Daeungjeon Hall of the temple, which was founded during the Unified Silla period, said, "This place is the most beautiful in winter," and it was true! As a bonus, I found a Goryeo Dynasty engraving on a stone lantern buried in the snow next to the steps. While reading the sign, the monk told me, "If you go to the hermitage behind the temple, you will find the footsteps of an old monk."
📌 Must-see for the whole family
Hidden points: Pine forest path behind Daeungjeon → Old ginkgo tree encountered after walking 1km (photo spot)
Recommended time: 2-4pm (winter sunlight gently illuminates the cliff)
Snack: Black sesame condensed milk latte (6,500 won) at 'Bojangdaebang' in front of the mountain gate to prevent shaking hands
🚨 Precautions
Slippery stairs (hiking shoes required)
No entry after sunset (security guard checks at 5:30pm)
Monks will be disturbed if you take flash photos (natural light recommended)
Around 5pm, I held up my phone camera against the sunset reflected on the stone lantern. Even though it was cold, the sound of the wind blowing through the temple yard added to the silence. The monk smiled and said, "We open at night during the spring blooming season," so I made plans to visit again in April! 🌸
