Sakurai Futamigaura Meoto Iwa is a beautiful spot located in Itoshima, not far from Fukuoka. It has been selected as one of the '100 Best Beaches in Japan' and '100 Best Sunsets in Japan'! Sakurai Futamigaura Meoto Iwa features a giant rock opposite a white torii gate. The rock, resembling a couple leaning on each other, is located about 150 meters offshore and is connected by a sacred rope, hence the name 'Meoto Iwa' or 'Married Couple Rocks'. One of the must-visit spots in Itoshima is the white torii gate and the Meoto Iwa rocks at Sakurai Futamigaura Beach.😍 This location has been selected as one of the 'Top 100 Beaches in Japan' and 'Top 100 Sunsets in Japan'. I arrived today around 2 PM, which isn't the golden hour when the sun sets and the evening glow appears, but there were already many people taking photos! The white torii gate in the sea is very special. 📍Futamigaura Meoto Iwa Address: Shimasakurai, Itoshima, Fukuoka 819-1304, Japan If you visit Itoshima, you must stop by the Futamigaura Meoto Iwa. When I visited, there weren't many people, and most of them were Japanese. It seems to be a famous beautiful spot even among the Japanese. The sea's color was stunning, and I felt great in the peaceful countryside atmosphere. I highly recommend the beautiful sea of Itoshima, a bit away from Fukuoka.

It will be easier to drive and it takes around half and hour from the city centre. Alternatively, there is the Showa West Coast liner bus from Hakata bus terminal and it takes around 1.5 hrs to reach Futamigaura (Meotoiwamae) station and it costs around 1300 yen one way. The two giant rocks joined by a shimenawa rope—straw rope used at many Shinto shrines indicating a divide between the sacred and the secular—earn the gasps and coos of admiration by visitors on sandy beaches. The rocks are a symbol of happy marriage. It is really amazing and interesting to know such background stories of these landmarks.

During my 2-week trip to Korea and Japan, Fukuoka was one of the cities I decided to visit. On the first day there, I wanted to drive out to see one of Japan's active volcanoes. Kusasenrigahama, Japan, 〒869-1505 Kumamoto, Aso District, 阿蘇市 草千里ヶ浜 - Enjoy some horse riding, a nice hike up the mountain to watch an active volcano go poof, or maybe eat some horse meat skewers. I really fell in love with how peaceful this place is and I won't lie that this would be the perfect proposal spot for the adventurous couples. 5. Kurokawa Onsen, Manganji, Minamioguni, Aso District, Kumamoto 869-2402, Japan - This little onsen town looks like the Spirited Away village.
