Edinburgh became a must-see destination for me in 2011 after watching "One Day." Before going, I thought it would be an abstract pursuit of the film's theme of "cherishing first encounters." But in reality, what truly captivated me about this city was its ability to retain a touch of tenderness and romance despite its weathered history. Edinburgh was my first stop in Scotland. I took an overnight train from London and woke up in Edinburgh the next morning. Edinburgh Castle and the Palace of Holyroodhouse, located at either end of the Royal Mile, are well worth visiting. The former is a military fortress, a testament to Edinburgh's history. The latter is the Queen's holiday palace, boasting a luxurious interior. St. Giles' Cathedral on the Royal Mile is also a classic, notable for its crown-shaped spire, modeled after the Scottish crown, and the stained-glass windows within. Victoria Street awakens childhood fairy tale dreams, drawing countless Harry Potter fans to The Elephant House, seeking traces of J.K. Rowling. However, I was drawn to the street's vintage charm, which evoked a sense of stepping back in time, into a movie scene. After exploring Edinburgh, I realized my fondness for the city wasn't rooted in the regrets portrayed in "One Day," but rather in its enduring romanticism that resonated deeply within me. ☀️Practical Tips☀️ 1️⃣ Standard overnight train tickets cost between GBP 16–30 and should be booked in advance. However, if the train isn't crowded, you can stretch out across three empty seats. I did just that on my trip to the UK. 2️⃣ The overnight train journey takes about 4.5 hrs. 3️⃣ It's best to stay in Edinburgh's Old Town. My accommodation, a B&B, was in the Old Town and cost around GBP 40–50 per night.

The Royal Mile is the busiest main road in Edinburgh's Old Town. It includes Castle Esplanade, Castlehill, Lawnmarket, High Street, Canongate and Abbey Strand. It is about 1 Scottish mile long and connects Edinburgh Castle in the west and Holyrood Palace in the east. The Royal Mile Castlehill is one of the most lively tourist attractions nearby. There are many historical buildings, restaurants, shops, souvenir shops and street performances, etc. It is a must-see for tourists! My personal experience is to walk from Grassmarket to the slope, go up West Bow and Victoria Street which are lined with colorful buildings. This is also the place where most people check in and take photos. Then there is a staircase in the middle. The stairs are dark and dirty, but there is a different view when you go up. Looking down at the colorful buildings from the upper floor, it is like a beautiful painting! After going up the stairs, you will reach Upper Bow. There is a roundabout at the end. One side leads to Castlehill, where the most common thing is street performances of people wearing Scottish skirts and playing bagpipes, and the other side leads to Lawnmarket, where there are many shops and souvenir shops. It is recommended to walk towards Castlehill first, and then walk all the way to Lawnmarket and High Street on the way back. #ediinsider I suppose we don’t appreciate how lucky we are that we can visit one of the worlds best streets within an hour or two of leaving our homes, from the gates of the Castle the thoroughfare stretches for 1 old Scottish mile to the palace of Holyrood which is the Queens official residence when in Edinburgh passing wonderful old buildings and closes full of history , bars , cafes and restaurants of all types crowd the street as well as lots of small unique shops that sell all types of stuff a visitor might want. A very enjoyable couple of hours can be had wandering down the Royal Mile.

If there is somewhere that you should not miss when visiting Edinburgh, it is definitely the Royal Mile. It is not just a straight road but a succession of streets in the Old Town of Edinburgh and runs between the Edinburgh Castle and Holyrood Palace (the two royal residences). Other than being a lovely area for shopping mainly aimed at tourists, the Royal Mile is also very historical. You can find many interesting monuments and statues here. I've always wanted to go to Scotland but the weather always discouraged me so I decided to go in November. That way I wouldn't be disappointed as it rains all the time. Edinburgh is really a beautiful city that reminds us immediately of the atmosphere of Harry Potter, besides JK Rolling would have started his writing here. There is not much specific thing to do or visit in Edinburgh. Just let your steps guide you through the streets and alleys of the historic center. I would also recommend visiting some of the cemeteries as they are really incredible, filled with tombstones worthy of horror movies. It is even hard to believe that they are real tombs. Out of Edinburgh Castle is a street, from the east to the north, about a mile long, called "Royal One Lane", is the famous street in Edinburgh. There are many royal buildings on both sides of the street, which are magnificent. It is also the most prosperous street in Edinburgh. There are many shops and shopping paradise. But what attracts me the most is that there are many beggars on this street. Unlike the domestic clothes, this is either sleek, playing musical instruments, or exotic clothes. Dressing up as a mythical figure and taking pictures of tourists is not so much awkward as it is an art worker.
