[Europe][Spain] Ronda: spectacular view in the white village
Ronda is one of the most beautiful cities I visited in Spain. The sceneries are spectacular, with rich history and great restaurants. I enjoyed the view as well as the tapas. Very pleasant experience!

'The City in the Sky' and 'The White Town'
2024.6.22 (Saturday)
Seville-Granada
Weather: Cloudy, 13-33 degrees.
We couldn't make it to the Spanish Square yesterday, but with the tour leader's coordination, we successfully checked in at the square this morning (Picture 1).
Enjoying the splendid Spanish sunshine, the temperature difference between morning and evening is huge, like two different seasons.
Today we left Seville and headed to Granada via Ronda, mostly driving on mountain roads.
Around noon, we arrived in Ronda for a visit.
Ronda, known as 'The City in the Sky' (Picture 2), is located in the hinterland of the Malaga province at an altitude of over 700 meters. This small town, born in the Roman Empire era and developed during the Arab invasion era, has its old town perched on a cliff with a hundred meters of height difference, offering a breathtaking and magnificent view (Picture 3).
The famous Puente Nuevo (also known as the New Bridge, Picture 4), rebuilt in the mid-18th century, spans a 98-meter-high gorge on both sides, with the Guadalevín River flowing towards Seville at the bottom of the valley. It is a vital thoroughfare between the old and new towns and one of Ronda's most iconic landmarks.
The Ronda bullring (Picture 5), with a diameter of 66 meters, is one of the oldest bullrings in Spain, built in 1785. Ronda is known as the birthplace of modern stand-up bullfighting, and it has seen two glorious bullfighting families, Romero and Ordóñez.
The town is peaceful and simple, as if it naturally grew out of the surrounding cliffs. Today is the weekend, and there are even more visitors here.
After lunch, we drove nearly a hundred kilometers and continued along the mountain roads, reaching an altitude of over a thousand meters, to the town of Mijas built on the hillside (Picture 6).
Mijas, an Arab-style tourist town, is known as 'The White Town', 'The Romantic Town', and one of 'Spain's Top Ten Beautiful Towns'. Walking on the clean streets, the buildings around are all white (Picture 7), with bright flowers and individual decorations, exuding a strong romantic atmosphere (Picture 8).
The town faces the Mediterranean Sea and looks across to Melilla in North Africa (Picture 9). With a suitable climate, bright sunshine, and well-equipped commercial facilities, it has become a tourist and leisure vacation destination.
In the evening, we arrived in Granada to stay, and tomorrow we will visit a famous attraction here before heading to Toledo.

Spain | Ronda may not be the best place for eloping, but it's worth it!
| Ronda may not be the best place for eloping, but it's worth it!. Hemingway said Ronda was the best place to elope
But it's likely that more people are amazed by the aerial view of Ronda
A white town perched atop a steep cliff
The New Bridge spans the deep gorge, connecting the new and old towns
Although I only stayed for one day, I really liked this small town
Wandering aimlessly, everywhere I looked was a romantic scene
Don't miss it if you're going to the south of Spain!
🚌Transportation:
It takes about two and a half hours to get to Ronda from Seville by Damas bus, and a round-trip ticket costs about 30 euros. The scenery along the way is different from the Spanish towns, with mountain roads, large fields, and hills, offering a very different visual experience.
📍Viewing spots:
Ronda is not big, I didn't go to any places that required an entrance fee, I recommend marking several key landmarks on google map, and just stroll and see. The best viewing platforms are like the last picture, most viewpoints will pass by.
🔹Jardines De Cuenca My personal favorite, the viewpoint in the small garden to see the New Bridge Puente Nuevo, the views from looking up and looking down are very special.
🔹La Sevillana On the side of the New Bridge, at that time a musician was performing the interlude of 'Game of Thrones' with a harp, the scene felt like time travel.
🔹Arco de Felipe V The classic Gate of Philip V, from where you can look out over the white town, with winding paths undulating.
🔹Mirador La Hoya Del Tajo The viewing platform at the foot of the mountain, I couldn't get there before because it was under maintenance, but it should be very nice to walk down to the bottom of the mountain if you have time.
🍽Food:
🔹Puerta Grande: Recommended! They have delicious oxtail and very good Sangaria
🔹La Casa del Jamón: Recommended! A local ham shop in Ronda found on google, the staff don't speak English, but the quality of the ham is very high and the prices are favorable, after comparing with various hams bought in Spain, this shop is not inferior at all.

Promise me, in this life, to visit Hemingway's elopement haven—Ronda, Spain once
After hearing about Ronda, some are drawn because of Hemingway, others because of Hayao Miyazaki.
You think it's the 'City of Elopement', you think it's the 'City in the Sky'.
Of course, some also call it the 'City of Photographic Deception'
In fact, aside from the frequently publicized Ronda's New Bridge, there are many other places to visit in Ronda, and many more views to see.
🗓 Itinerary:
Day 1: Ronda's New Bridge - Ronda's Old Bridge - Puerta de Felipe V
Day 2: Ronda Bullring - Ronda Arab Baths

Ronda, Spain, I don't believe anyone would elope here
Ronda, a city in Spain, is located in the hinterland of the northwest of Malaga Province in the Andalusia region of Spain.
It was born in the Roman Empire era, developed during the Arab invasion era, and its old town stands on a cliff hundreds of meters above sea level, giving a breathtaking sense of grandeur. The city mostly adopts Spanish architectural style, with white walls and houses, also known as the 'White Hilltop Town'. It is known as the 'city most suitable for eloping'.
The Nuevo Bridge (New Bridge) spans the Grand Canyon and connects the new and old towns, transitioning very naturally and appropriately. Ronda is also the birthplace of Spanish standing bullfighting, where there is the oldest bullring and museum in Spain. The town is peaceful and simple, as if it has naturally grown out of the surrounding cliffs.

Ronda
Ronda is a small town located in the hinterland of Andalusia, Spain. It was born in the Roman Empire era, and its old town stands on a cliff 750 meters high, giving a breathtaking sense of grandeur. It is the birthplace of bullfighting.
Ronda never lacks celebrities, and many celebrities visit here every year. The famous writer Hemingway has been here. Ronda is built on the cliffs on both sides of the Guadalevin River Valley. The white houses under the blue sky and white clouds tell its extraordinary past.
The city of Ronda is divided into two parts, the new city and the old city, by the Tagus Creek. The old city is very spectacular on the edge of the cliff, and it is just across the new bridge, maintaining its old appearance. Speaking of Ronda, it is of course a holy land in the hearts of Spaniards. It is the birthplace of modern bullfighting. You must come to Ronda during the bullfighting festival. Only then can you feel the unique passion and blood of the bullfighting city.
In Ronda, in addition to bullfighting, there are women in national costumes all over the street. Little girls are dancing flamenco on the street, and their skirts are flying. Some people say that the sky city on the cliff has a very high index of romantic encounters. If you are waiting for a romantic encounter, you might as well try here. Most of the attractions are in the old city, and accommodation and shopping are mainly in the new city. Therefore, the old city is like a ghost town after nightfall. The quiet stone streets with dim street lights seem to have entered medieval Spain!

Going for a wander in Ronda 🌉 🏰 🖼️
Ronda, Andalusia Spain
Ronda is a stunning hill top town within driving distance of the Costa Del Sol, it can be done on it’s own or as a pit stop on the way to Seville or Cadiz.
Probably most famous for it’s bridge the town is a beautiful glimpse into the past with the majority of it’s historic city center and back streets perfectly preserved. The bridge was built in 1759 and this bridge alone makes the town worth a visit, it’s really hard to comprehend how it was built so long ago and still stands today.
There are multiple places to view the bridge and the majority of them are free, there are pathways that cross the road and snake around the surrounding streets. There are a few bars and restaurants with outdoor seating and patios but they are very expensive compared to standard restaurants in the town, you can get a good enough view from the free spots.
There are lots of chocolate shops, patisseries and cafes for those who have a sweet spot and also plenty of traditional tapas bars for those wanting a more filling meal. I went in winter but still enjoyed a lot of amazing ice cream, it’s never too cold for delicious gelato.
There is an old bull fighting arena you can visit along with a beautiful park sitting on the edge of a cliff which gives stunning views of the surrounding valleys.
It’s very accessible by road with plenty of parking, we parked at the northern edge of the town and walked through the winding streets to the center. This was a wise choice as the evening sees a lot of people leaving and the small streets make traffic really bad.
