🇵🇹 Quinta da Regaleira, the most Beautiful Mansion in Sintra
A trip to Sintra wouldn’t be complete without seeing Quinta da Regaleira, one of the most stunning estates recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site within the "Cultural Landscape of Sintra." This neo-gothic mansion was designed and constructed in the late 1800s. The estate’s main attractions include its enchanting gardens and the iconic initiation well. Though called a well, it isn’t actually a water source but rather an underground tower used for ceremonial purposes. The well features a 27-meter spiral staircase, approximately six stories high, and at its base, there are two main tunnels, one leading out to the garden. Walking down the well and through the tunnels felt like a surreal and magical experience!

Day trip to Sintra and Cabo da Roca
#newyearadventure
Sintra is a UNESCO world heritage site in Portugal famed for its historic palaces and castles. It is about 50 minutes from Lisbon by train so you can easily make a day trip to Sintra while you're in Lisbon.
We visited Pena Palace, a fairytale palace built in 19th century, and Quinta da Regaleira, a neo-gothic mansion with the iconic initiation well. We had lunch in Sintra town centre and thereafter travelled to Cabo da Roca - the westernmost point of mainland Europe.
It may be cheaper to go from one location to another by Uber or other ride hiring platforms instead of hiring tour guides touting outside Sintra train station. The tour guide we hired charged us 35 euros per pax by fetching us from point A to point B.

This building is also known as 'The Palace of Monteiro the Millionaire', named after the nickname of its first owner, who was a tobacco merchant and had a smoking room inside, furnished with a chair resembling a dragon throne. The estate has a very three-dimensional garden with unexpected ingenuity. Quinta da Regaleira is a quirky attraction, where all the large and small buildings have pure white, intricately carved facades, giving a delicate yet eerie feeling.

Regaleira Palace.
Regaleira Palace is located in Sintra, Portugal. It was purchased by a wealthy businessman in 1892 as a private garden. This businessman had a passion for mysticism, so the estate is filled with mysterious elements, with symbols representing different meanings scattered throughout. Moreover, the design of the entire estate is like a labyrinth, creating a sense of adventure and mystery for every visitor. The architectural style of Regaleira Palace is also very diverse, incorporating Romanesque, Gothic, Renaissance, and Manueline styles into one. This unique style is extremely rare in Europe, both in the past and present.

Real-life Disney Castle
Sintra, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is a captivating Portuguese town known for its opulent palaces, extravagant villas, historic sites, lush forests and jagged hills.
Must-see attractions include:🌟
1.The whimsical Palácio da Pena
2. Moorish castle ruins
3. Mystical Quinta da Regaleira gardens
4. Arabian-inspired Palácio de Monserrate.
Beyond the tourist routes, Sintra offers dense forests, rugged coastlines, secluded religious sites, and breathtaking viewpoints for adventurous travelers.⛰️
How to get there:🛣
Sintra is a town in the foothills of the Sintra Mountains, about an hour northwest of Lisbon.
1. I don't recommend driving to Sintra. Parking at the palaces and within the town is tough (as in, parking options are virtually nonexistent).🚘
2. Trains run regularly from Lisbon's Rossio station (up to 6 times per hour during the busy season). Tickets are €4.60 return (5.10 Euro total if you don't already have a Viva Viagem card, which is Lisbon's transport card). The journey from Lisbon to Sintra takes about 40 minutes.🚆
3. There's also a combo ticket you can purchase for the train and Sintra buses for €14. If you're going to try to get this combo ticket, I recommend purchasing in- person at the station.
Getting around Sintra:🚍
The most affordable way to get around is by taking the tourist buses that run regular routes to Sintra's most popular attractions. These buses are 434 and 435.

Portugal : Sintra Day Trip
The day of the Sintra town day trip.
Given the experience of waiting for the bus last time to the point of doubting life choices.
This time we decisively chartered a trip 💸💸💸.
Charter price: 400rmb/person for 10 hours.
Round-trip transfer from Lisbon hotel + full-day tour of Sintra town.
Depart from the hotel at 9:30 in the morning and head straight to the first stop, the Palace of Versailles.
Book tickets for 10:30am and shuttle bus inside the park on the official website.
Smoothly avoid the crowd and enter for visit.
When leaving, there was already a long line outside (and it's still the off-season 😯).
Saw the impressive combination of tomato and egg with colorful architecture.
Although the walls are slightly dirty due to frequent rain in winter.
But it doesn't affect its beauty.
With the blue sky as the backdrop, it's really easy to take great photos ❤️❤️❤️.
After visiting the Palace of Pena, go to the town of Sintra.
Tasted authentic Portuguese cuisine 😋
Continue on to the Lejarela Estate and Montserrat Palace.
(Both of these attractions can be discounted with the Lisbon Card.)
Montserrat Palace, besides hiking and walking, I don't remember much.
For friends who are not physically fit or do not like walking, it is recommended to choose one of these two attractions.
Then leave some time to wander around the town of Cinque Terre.
Finally finished visiting all the attractions before 4:30.
To arrive at Cape Roca before 5 o'clock and wait for the sunset 🌄.

Explore the mysterious underground palace 27 meters deep and experience Dante's nine circles firsthand.
I went all the way to Sintra, Portugal just to see this mysterious "Palace" estate.
——
Millionaire Monteloro's palace.
Mansion, romantic large garden, mysterious underground palace, luxurious architecture...
The outside world has labeled it with these tags, and although I was mentally prepared, I couldn't help but be amazed and shocked when standing in front of it!
🔥🔥🔥
Eerie?
Compared to the traditional estates in England and France, the Regaleira Estate is not very large, but it is very complex, condensed with wells, underground passages, benches, gardens, palaces, etc. It is exquisite and gloomy. Even when the sun is shining, the atmosphere here is still cold and stern.
📷📷📷
Coolest?
Rejaila Manor's coolest attraction is undoubtedly the 27-meter-deep dried well, with the entrance at the exact center of the well and surrounded by spiral stairs on all nine levels, said to symbolize the nine circles of heaven, hell, and purgatory described by Dante. Walking on it can indeed make one dizzy and disoriented. Looking up at the bright sunshine outside the well, with dappled tree shadows, it feels like a colorful world, while looking down at the gloomy and terrifying bottom of the well is mysterious and unfathomable.
🚗🚗
How to get here?
Stay in Sintra town and take a bus from Sintra train station, or take a taxi and drive directly with navigation.
💰📷

The world heritage site of Regaleira is now one of Sintra's most famous tourist attractions. It includes the romantic Regaleira Palace and a huge park with lakes, caves, water wells, benches, fountains and many beautiful buildings.
The manor is known as the Palace of the Millionaire Monteiro. The main building has 5 floors and is the owner's living area. It is like a palace-like house. From the balcony, many can be seen from Dante. Various statues of "Divine Comedy"
The garden covers a large area, the most famous of which is the small cave hidden under the waterfall. It is directly connected to a very famous deep well. It is a good place for hide and seek
Transportation: Take the 435 bus from Sintra Railway Station
