Exploring the Qingyang Palace: How to reach this Taoist holy place in Chengdu?
Chengdu Qingyang Palace, located on West Second Road, First Ring Road, Chengdu City, Sichuan Province, is the largest Taoist temple in the southwest region and one of the key Taoist temples in the country. Qingyang Palace has a long history. It was first built in the Zhou Dynasty and was originally named Qingyang Si. It is said that Laozi went west through Hangu Pass and wrote the "Tao Te Ching" for Guanling Yin Xi. When he left, he said: "After you have practiced the Tao for a thousand days, come and find me in Qingyangsi, Chengdu." At the appointed time, Laozi appeared here riding a green goat, and Yin Xi came as promised. Laozi then "preached Taoism" here, so Qingyang Palace is regarded as a Taoist holy place.
The Qingyang Palace is large in scale, and its main buildings include the Lingzu Hall, Hunyuan Hall, Bagua Pavilion, Sanqing Hall, Doumu Hall, and Tangwang Hall. There are two bronze sheep in the Sanqing Hall. One of them is a two-horned sheep, which is the incarnation of the twelve zodiac signs. It is said that touching it can ward off disasters and cure diseases. It is deeply loved by believers and tourists. The Bagua Pavilion has a unique shape, with an octagonal body, double-eaved eaves, carved beams and painted buildings. Inside the pavilion there is a bronze statue of Laozi riding a green bull, which is exquisitely crafted and lifelike.
This place is not only a place for Taoist believers to worship and pray, but also attracts many tourists to experience the profound Taoist cultural heritage and the beauty of ancient buildings. During festivals such as the Spring Festival and the Lantern Festival, Qingyang Palace holds grand temple fairs. The scene is very lively, with various folk performances, traditional snacks, handicrafts, etc. gathered together, showing the rich characteristics of Chengdu.
