Qiao Garden, also known as Rishe Garden, was first built during the Wanli Period of the Ming Dynasty. It is one of the ancient gardens still existing in northern Jiangsu. During the Wanli Period of Emperor Shenzong, Chen Yingfang, the Minister of the Imperial Household, built a garden next to his house. He named it "Rishe Garden" after the sentence "The garden is gradually becoming more interesting" in Tao Yuanming's "Returning to the Countryside" in the Jin Dynasty. Qiao Garden is a famous scenic spot in Taizhou. When Mei Lanfang returned to his hometown in 1956, he stayed here. The layout of Qiao Garden is small and elegant, with the charm of Jiangnan gardens. The whole garden is centered on Shanxiang Thatched Cottage. The south is carved with a pool and stacked with mountains to form the main scenery, and the north is built with a garden. In front of the thatched cottage, the pool is winding and surrounded by rocks. On the main peak stand three stalagmites, which are also like three long swords pointing straight to the sky. The main feature of the garden is the emphasis on the configuration of flowers and trees, and the names of the buildings are often related to this, such as Erfen Bamboo House, Jielu Mountain House, Songchui Pavilion, Yinchao Pavilion, Jiaoyuxuan, Wenguifang, etc. The core Attraction is dominated by tall trees, with ancient cypresses on the rockery as the main feature; tall pine trees and plum trees are planted beside high pavilions such as Songchui Pavilion and Yinchao Pavilion; bamboos and houses are hidden behind the valley, wintersweets and osmanthus trees are planted in front and behind the courtyard, and peonies and banana trees are planted around the pavilion. The time configuration can also adapt to the changes in the surrounding scenery.
