Walking tour in the Spanish Central Plateau ~ Teruel (region)
Valderrobres is the most outstanding town in Matarraña. The entrance is on the medieval bridge of San Roque, supported by pointed arches. Its urban layout consists of narrow, winding little streets that go up the hillside to find two of its most representative buildings: the castle, built in the 14th century (without a doubt the most spectacular and artistic of all the castles in the province), and the church of Santa María Mayor, built in the 16th century, declared a Historic-Artistic Heritage, whose tower is connected to the castle by a passage. The church is a fine example of Teruel's Gothic style, with a magnificent rose window adorning its facade.
There are also many civic buildings worth mentioning: the Porta San Roque or Lion Gate (14th century); the Porta Bergos (13th-14th century), which has a house on top of it; or the Town Hall (16th century), a Renaissance building with a huge Aragonese semicircular gallery of arches, declared a National Monument.

Natural Rock-Built Treasures
Exploring Spain's Central Plateau ~ Teruel (Region)
From the late 12th century to the early 19th century, this town was under the jurisdiction of the Archbishop of Zaragoza. In the late 14th century, Archbishop García began transforming the defensive castle into an episcopal palace. He rebuilt and expanded the ground floor and first floor, leaving his personal mark on the numerous coat of arms found within the rooms. García passed away in 1411, but his mission was continued by his successors, particularly the Catalan Archbishop Dalmau, who oversaw the reconstruction of the second floor and upper sections of the castle. Its appearance became more opulent than military, as it hardly served any defensive purpose. The only certainty is that it was built around a natural rock (the peak of which can still be seen on the second floor) and reinforced as a defensive element, whether during the Christian reconquest or by one of the pre-Christian cultures that inhabited these lands.
Magnificent Gothic cathedral
Walking tour in the Spanish Central Plateau ~ Teruel (region)
Located at the highest point of Valderrobres. The magnificent building forms, together with the Castle of Valderrobles, a wonderful monumental complex that must be stopped to see before heading to the square. Everything is guided and costs 20 euros per person. The outside of the church is much nicer than the inside. The inside is a bit simple, but the outside is very interesting. If possible, it would be appropriate to have a guide to see it all.

Crossing this bridge feels like stepping into another time.
Exploring the Spanish Central Plateau ~ Teruel (Region)
The medieval bridge spanning the Matarraña River separates the historic center of Valderrobres from its newer section. Construction began in the late 14th century at the request of Zaragoza Archbishop García Fernández de Heredia to King Juan I of Aragon. The bridge features three arches with wedge-shaped cutwaters designed to protect it from powerful floods and debris in the river. Around the 16th century, the town hall was built at one end, connecting to the Spanish Square and serving as the starting point for the climb to the castle. At the end of the bridge, next to the town hall, stands the gate dedicated to Saint Roch, the patron saint of Valderrobres.
