Penang—Revisiting after 7 years
👋Hi~Penang
The nostalgic flavors of food and street scenes
Every stranger I met was super nice!
Why do I like small towns like Penang and Chiang Mai?
Because no matter how many years pass,
They still retain a lot of traditions
With almost no significant changes
Coming back after many years, I can still find the old feelings
It's just that I have changed after 7 years
My style has changed, my personality has changed, my skin color has changed...
This small town hasn't changed, but everything is different now

3-Day Penang Itinerary in Malaysia
As a child learning history, I learned about the major population migrations in China, which included venturing to the Northeast, moving to the West, and settling in Nanyang. The charm of Nanyang has always been something I yearned for, and Penang is the first stop on my journey to the South Seas.
A 40-minute flight transfer from Kuala Lumpur took me to Penang, where I chose to stay near Shantou Street. Char Kway Teow, Jian Dui, Curry Mee, Hokkien Mee, Durian... truly a food paradise, there are so many delicious foods worth trying.
【First Stop】Street Art and Peranakan Museum
The ancient Nanyang-style architecture paired with interesting and lively street art is just perfect for a city walk. Strolling leisurely here, every snapshot is filled with artistic flair. Of course, I couldn't miss the most famous murals.
The Peranakan Museum, also known as the Penang Overseas Chinese Museum, is one of the most beautiful historic mansions in George Town, Penang, displaying the daily life of the prominent Zheng Jinggui family.
【Second Stop】Penang Hill
The highest peak in Penang, offering a panoramic view of the entire city. The most famous attraction of Penang Hill is the funicular train, which allows you to enjoy the scenic beauty as if you were in a comic book. Unfortunately, it was under annual maintenance when I visited, and I regretfully missed it. In the end, I had to take a jeep up the hill,
the winding mountain roads even had cute monkeys to see! Reaching the top, the view over Penang was breathtaking.
【Third Stop】Durian Farm
Penang is very famous for its durians, and if you like durians, you must not miss this! This is the most recommended part of my entire trip! There are many durian farms on the back of Balik Pulau. Find a farm with beautiful scenery, where you can eat durians and enjoy the view at the same time, it's simply therapeutic!
【Fourth Stop】Batu Beach
The beautiful sunset beach in Penang is perfect for relaxing in the evening. It's best to arrive at the beach at 5 pm to secure a good spot to watch the sunset. Waiting quietly for the sunset, the moment you see the pink and purple twilight, you realize that the beauty of this world is just so~

Penang Street Art
Walk around George Town and you will find lots of murals and street art, some portraying the everyday life of locals, while some others are commissioned by local businesses. Some of these murals are 3D like, allowing you to take photos with them for memories.
It is definitely interesting to hunt for these street art when you are in George Town. There are also street maps, or you can just use the Google map to find some of these murals. However, some of them are fading and in not so good condition.

Penang Murals
One of the fun activities in Penang is to hunt for street art and murals. While exploring George Town, we took some time to wander around the alleys in search of the artwork and take photos. There is a fun collection of wall murals, paintings, and sculptures scattered around, and the most popular ones will have people waiting to have their photo taken. The art really highlights the creativity and fun spirit of Penang.

Surreal street art immersion 🇲🇾
The famous wall murals in Penang, Malaysia dazzle at every corner… undoubtedly, they are one of the main attractions and treasures of Georgetown. Some of the murals even combine everyday objects like bicycles or stools to give the illusion of them coming to life! Take a leisurely stroll and discover the iconic caricatured paintings of this UNESCO World Heritage town, or rent an electric scooter or bicycle and zip your way through the very heart of Penang!

Playing tourist in the street art
Great way to spend a day in historic Georgetown.
Get hold of the Street Art Map (available in almost all hotels in Penang) and hit the streets. Some of this murals are really hard to find, so its almost like a treasure hunting expedition. The most famous is the one with a kid on the bicycle that one is a must go. But overall, they are indeed beautiful street art! It's very therapeutic searching & walking down the alley. We decided to stroll around using the bike (gojek) and we had so much fun with it. It made everything better and easier. Can use it while making a vlog or taking a video but beware of your surroundings as the traffics here are so busy. And also if you go a little earlier you might be able to beat the crowds, otherwise you can expect a short wait as everyone takes turns for a photo. The art works are a little faded but they are still there. I hope they get to revive those art works soon so that they can be enjoyed for more years to come

Penang Street Art
Georgetown is a popular destination for those who love exploring Penang street art. As a UNESCO World Heritage Site, it features street art depicting the life in Penang.
Sadly to say, when I visited this April, some of the murals are starting to 'disappear' from sight. Really hope that the locals will put in an effort to maintain and preserve them. Sharing some of the murals that I saw, which could be gone before my next visit.

Artsy in Georgetown
After a connecting flight from KL, accessing Georgetown from Penang airport is very convenient by bus. The place is cheap and picturesque. Food feast is what defines it next. It's a place you'd definitely want to go back to again and again. I love it here!

Street Art in Georgetown, Penang
One of the most visited places when visiting Penang. It was fun to see the iconic murals and historical buildings while looking for the street food and souvenirs. Do expect long queue if you want to take photos with the murals. Unfortunately, most of the wall street arts were faded. You may tour around the street arts by taking trishaw ride or bicycle or by walking. Best to go in the morning or evening as it could be hot and heaty during the day. Good to wear a hat or bring an umbrella to avoid the direct sunlight.

Catch the beautiful creation of Penang
Explored the small town of Penang and totally got blow away from the arts on walls and decos along the street. it almost became a hipster area with many beautiful cafes around. Drawn away by the pretty cafes and their food are pretty legit.
Stayed in Hotel Jen and the location is good, hotel is also very clean. Friendly front desk executives whom warmly welcome you upon arrival. Room service was also immediate the moment I requested for something. Very satisfied with this trip and will be back for more.
Thinking to explore Malacca next and stay tune for the next post! Any recommendations anyone? (:

murals art penang
Located in the area of Penang Street Art, visitors will subconsciously step into the outdoor art galleries throughout the city. The rows of old walls that seem shabby are painted in plain colors and transformed into a place that has slick artistic value. penang has hot weather you should come in the morning or in the afternoon. Many make the mural area the best spot for taking pictures because it has at least 378 paintings that are used as murals. #passionpassport #staycation #gooutside #penang #malaysia

Purrfect place for cat lover
Went for a walk at Penang Street Art after eating Nasi Kandar Berator. Trying to burn some calories. We first saw some cats murals. It was very nice and we later discover a shop named #theheritagecat. the shop was full with furry friendly souvenior with good price too! there was also ootd corner with some cool background. The shop staff also very friendly. Definitely going to go there again. This time I'm gonna bring automatic fan because the weather is very hot in the evening. Btw peeps, please be advised to ask the dish price first before selection food such as sotong, lamb shank at any nasi kandar stall. Or else you kena sembelih.

Penang ArtWalk after The Dark
Artwalk in Penang is one of the popular activities, mostly visitors do it in the daytime. Well, here I am, I did it in the nighttime :).
From Armenian Street Heritage to Penang street art, passing to several temples and mosques, it will give you another different perspective of the Penang street art after the dark.
For street art, the mural on the wall may not show much difference between day and night; however, wire sculptures and several landmarks and heritage buildings have a significantly different view or perspective between day and night because of the lighting.
The other advantages are fewer people compared to the daytime and less sun exposure. However, it would be best to have a good camera to capture the night moments, most of the shops are closed, some parts of the streets are dim or less light, and no people.
Location: Penang Art Street, Beach Street, George Town, Penang.

If you are at Penang, you must come here to take photo with the Penang street Art mostly at this area along the wall of the building. Some of it are wire with metal and even lit when it is at night so you are able to take photos with them! It is also free to take them by the way and all day 24 hours is there!
Walk down memory lane with shophouses dressed in flowers/bicycle. Can even see queue forming at the mot famous street art area.
Quite a nice way to spend about 2 to 3 hours there.

Penang Street Art: Hunting Colorful Murals
On my trip to Georgetown ,Penang, I spent most ofthe time exploring the colorful murals. Recognized by UNESCO as a world cultural heritage, Georgetown is a popular destination for those who love exploring Penang street art.
Making strolling through Georgetown’s streets just a little bit more exciting, in 2012 Penang’s municipal council hired London-trained Lithuanian artist, Ernest Zacharevic and charged him with breathing new life into some of the atmospheric Chinese shop-houses around the inner city. An effort to spawn awareness of the rich history of the streets, the project was a success with Zacharevic turning certain areas into thriving tourist destinations that also became the much-talked about object of attention among locals.
His artwork is spread out across Penang’s city centre, along roads like Muntri Street, Weld Quay, Lebuh Leith, Armenian Street, Ah Quee Street and more.
