[Is this free?] Santa Maria Maggiore Church
I happened to stop by this church because I was staying at a hotel nearby.
It was a very impressive church even though the entrance fee was free!
It was built around the 5th century and is a famous church that is also one of the Pope's cathedrals.
Perhaps because of its era, it has a structure that I have never seen before. It is generally square, and as you go further in, it becomes a familiar dome-shaped church structure. The contrast between the gold ceiling near the entrance and the vivid stained glass is beautiful.
I went there around 9:00-10:00 in the summer morning, and it was beautiful with the sunset as shown in the photo. Since the front faces southeast, I wonder if it is more beautiful in the morning? (Maybe)
There is a simple baggage inspection before entering. Also, I was told to cover my shoulders properly (I forgot to do so... sorry God 😭🙏), so please make sure to dress appropriately! There is also cloth that covers exposed skin underneath!
It's a little far from the tourist spots, but it opens early in the morning, so be sure to stop by before your main sightseeing trip o(^▽^)o
Also, there are several churches with similar names, so be careful not to get confused!
