Hotels in Kyoto: A blend of style and tradition
This time, I stayed at the Oakwood Hotel Oike Kyoto, located in Kyoto's Nakagyo Ward on Oike Street, near Kyoto City Hall Station (Tozai Subway Line), about a 10-minute walk away.
The hotel is approximately a 10-minute drive from Kyoto Station and within walking distance to Nishiki Market (about 10 minutes) and the Kamo River (about 5 minutes). The surrounding area is dotted with convenience stores and restaurants, making it ideal for exploring Kyoto's old streets and shopping districts.
The room type was a twin room, approximately 30 square meters in size, featuring a modern minimalist design with a touch of Japanese Zen. The room is equipped with free Wi-Fi, air conditioning, and a 55-inch smart TV (with access to YouTube and Netflix). The bathroom is shower-only, fitted with TOTO fixtures and complimentary toiletries, with stable water pressure. Guests can enjoy free coffee, tea, and access to a microwave in the lobby restaurant (coffee and tea are available during limited hours daily).
The front desk supports both English and Japanese, with friendly and attentive staff providing travel information and bicycle rental guidance. Check-in and check-out processes are efficient, though assistance may take longer during peak times.
The lobby features a wood and white color scheme, incorporating traditional Kyoto elements, creating a clean and tranquil atmosphere. The overall vibe is relaxed, making it suitable for young travelers and families.
A short walk to Nishiki Market offers a chance to savor Kyoto's local delicacies, such as sashimi sushi (around ¥1,000) and matcha desserts. Nearby cafes, like Smart Coffee, provide a retro ambiance.
