Urumqi | No. 1 Glacier.
No. 1 Glacier, also known as Tianshan Urumqi River Source No. 1 Glacier, is located in Urumqi County, Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, about 120 kilometers southwest of Urumqi. It is the source of the Urumqi River on the northern slope of Tianshan Mountain. The glacier is known as a "living fossil of glaciers" due to its unique glacial landforms and sediments, as well as well-preserved ancient glacial relics. It is one of the best places in China to observe and study modern glaciers and ancient glacial relics.

Landform: No. 1 Glacier was formed in the third glacial period and has a history of 4.8 million years. The glacial landforms and sediments are very typical, and there are well-preserved ancient glacial relics.
Scale: No. 1 Glacier is 2.4 kilometers long, with an average width of 500 meters, an area of 1.85 square kilometers, a maximum thickness of 140 meters, an average annual movement speed of about 5 meters, and a bottom altitude of 3740 meters.
