This retro cafe has been loved since it was founded in 1948 (Showa 23). The coffee, made with high-quality beans and water, is delicious and free of impurities. They make no compromises on anything other than coffee, and the cakes lined up in the display case are sure to catch your eye. The exterior is German-style timber-framed, giving you a sense of the exotic port city of Kobe. The cafe space is on the 1st to 3rd floors, and there are many seats. It gets very crowded during morning breakfast hours, but in the evenings there are no lines and you can spend your time relatively leisurely. As it's iced coffee from a coffee specialty store, it tastes excellent! The surface where it touches the ice becomes like sorbet, so you can enjoy it until the last sip. This is a seasonal item from July to the end of September, and there is a limited quantity every day. It's hard to even get to the Kitanozaka store at this time of year, so I recommend calling the store to check if they have it in stock before going...! A very classic cafe with European interior designs, which was first established apparently in 1974. Everything felt really retro, heavy wooden interiors even the menu has a hard wooden thick cover haha. We arrived about 15min after the cafe was open, yet there was a queue already. Overall, I think it was not worth the one hour's wait. The cakes were nice but nothing wow. The cafe is famous for the iced coffee, which literally is coffee within the hole of a cube of an ice brick. We didn't order that as it was too pricey for a drink. Think it is nice to try if you are around and don't have to wait for an hour. Else can always try out all the other cafes in Kobe. Average price/person: 1500 yen
