Sendai Cherry Blossom Viewing - The Charming Nishimachi Park
Nishimachi Park is a delightful spot for cherry blossom viewing in Sendai city. After enjoying the sights at Kotodai Park, just a short walk will lead you to this charming and compact park. Though small in size, the density and arrangement of cherry blossoms here are excellent, creating a stunning scene when in full bloom. With the NHK building as a backdrop, picnicking under the cherry trees in the circular plaza offers a unique and picturesque experience.
During cherry blossom season, the park hosts a nostalgic Showa-era market during the day and a mesmerizing night cherry blossom illumination event in the evening, making it lively and fun. The park is shaded by lush greenery and offers different scenery throughout the year. Its playground facilities and spacious lawns make it an ideal spot for families, couples, and anyone looking to relax and take a stroll.

Tokyo Express Bus to Sendai for Cherry Blossom Viewing
Traveling from Tokyo to Sendai, the most famous city in Miyagi Prefecture, is best done via express or overnight buses! While taking the Shinkansen from Tokyo to Sendai costs over 10,000 yen for a one-way trip, express or overnight buses offer a much more budget-friendly option, with fares starting as low as 1,980 yen for a one-way trip. This makes express buses an economical choice, especially for travelers on a budget.
At Nishimachi Park, you can experience the vibrant spring atmosphere, where rows of cherry blossom trees in shades of pink and white adorn the park, creating a picturesque contrast with the surrounding skyscrapers. It feels like a bridge between urban life and nature during springtime. In the heart of the park, picnic mats are spread under the cherry trees, with locals gathered together, children running around, and couples whispering sweet nothings, all enjoying this seasonal feast. A gentle breeze carries a shower of cherry blossoms, adding a touch of poetic charm to the city. In this urban oasis surrounded by cherry blossoms, you can truly feel the warmth and beauty that spring brings to the city.

Osaka night bus goes directly to Sendai for cherry blossom viewing, starting from 6,000 yen
If you can't see the cherry blossoms in Osaka, you can take a highway bus directly to Sendai in the northeast. The price starts from 6,000 yen. The boarding points are Osaka Kansai Expo, Universal Studios World Exit 4, Umeda and Kyoto Station Hachijo Exit, and the alighting point is Yodobashi Sendai First Building Bus Terminal.
Starting from Kotodai Station, where the administrative center of Miyagi Prefecture and Sendai City is located, a three-minute walk along Jozenji-dori will lead you to Nishikicho Park, a green space with very convenient transportation. The area is a popular spot for families with children, with cherry blossom varieties such as Edohigan Sakura and Somei Yoshino Sakura planted, fresh greenery, and open lawns. The cherry blossoms swaying in the wind are so beautiful that you can't help but forget about time and enjoy their beauty. It is also often used as a venue for events. Now it has become a popular place for walking and relaxing among citizens and tourists.

Tokyo to Sendai Cherry Blossom Viewing
Traveling from Tokyo to Sendai is quick and convenient with the Tohoku Shinkansen, taking as little as 90 minutes and costing around HKD 600.
April marks the cherry blossom season in Sendai, where the city is enveloped in pink hues. Among the must-visit spots near the city center are Tsutsujigaoka Park and Nishimachi Park, both of which are stunningly beautiful. These parks also feature evening illuminations after 6 PM, creating a serene and magical atmosphere.
Upon arriving in Sendai around 5 PM after my flight, I found my hotel conveniently located near Nishimachi Park. I decided to take a stroll, and to my surprise, it was an unforgettable experience! It was Friday, April 4th, during the peak bloom period, or "mankai," when the blossoms are at their best. The area was surprisingly quiet, with few passersby or tourists, allowing me to peacefully admire the blossoms glowing under the night sky. The soft streetlights added a unique charm to the scene, making it truly enchanting.

Nishimachi Park, a Pink Poem in the City
Nishimachi Park quietly stands among the streets of Sendai. When spring arrives, it transforms into a world of cherry blossoms. The park is adorned with cherry trees in shades of pink and white, creating a picturesque contrast with the surrounding skyscrapers, as if building a spring bridge between the city and nature. As you walk into the park, picnic mats are spread under the cherry trees, with people gathering to enjoy this spring feast. A gentle breeze blows, and cherry blossom petals fall like rain, bringing a touch of soft poetry to the city. I sit on a bench, watching children run under the cherry trees and lovers whispering softly, feeling the warmth that spring brings to the city. In this urban oasis surrounded by cherry blossoms, the beauty of spring is within reach.

Enjoy the Cherry Blossoms at Nishi Park in Sendai
Nishi Park's cherry blossoms mainly consist of Edo Higan and Somei Yoshino varieties. Compared to other cherry blossom viewing spots in Sendai, the blooming period here is about a week earlier, making it a perfect destination for flower enthusiasts who want to catch an early glimpse.
The cherry blossoms are incredibly beautiful. There are no stalls or noisy drunkards here, allowing you to leisurely stroll and enjoy the flowers. It's worth visiting every year to see the cherry blossoms.

SENDAI Christmas market
This time I went to the Christmas market held at Nishikicho Park!
It's within walking distance from Sendai Station. It's closer to the station than Kotodai Park, so it was easy to walk there.
I went on a day when there was no admission fee, so I went in for free!
When I went in, there were so many food stalls that I was instantly hungry
I wanted to eat quickly.
This time it was like a hot dog and German fries?
I ate it.
In the back, there was an outdoor facility where you could sit and eat, and a snow globe-like thing
I ate my fill.

#ChristmasGoodDestination2024 #Sendai #Japan
From December 6 (Friday) to December 25 (Wednesday), 2024, Sendai Nishikicho Park will hold a 20-day Christmas market with free admission (tickets are required on certain dates). There are more than 30 stalls in the market, selling various Christmas decorations, handicrafts and delicacies. 🍴
The most eye-catching thing is the five-meter-high Christmas tree, which is lit up at night, adding a strong festive atmosphere to the market. 🎅 The specially launched limited edition mug has become a must-have souvenir every year! The dates that require admission tickets are December 14, 15, 21-25, and mugs are available, and children under elementary school age can enter for free.
I visited on December 15th and although there were fewer tourists due to the rain, the store still offered a wide range of food options. Since I was full, I just bought a glass of mulled wine and felt the warmth and comfort of Christmas. 🎁

Nishikicho Park
#thingstodo
It is a relaxing park surrounded by Honmachi and Nishikicho, where offices, vocational schools, and preparatory schools are located, and is loved by citizens along with Kotodai Park, which is located to the northwest of the park across Jozenji Street (National Route 45).
As a park it serves it's purpose. Nothing special here other than some sculptures as landmarks. This park is often used in events though so there's always something going on here.
